This is just a friendly reminder that we should all try to follow forum rule #2:
2. Note that many people will read your message, so BE POLITE and dont use abusive language.
I wish that we had a more active moderator who would enforce rule #4:
4. We reserve the right to remove any posting that is either improper or IRRELEVANT.
If #4 were being enforced, half of the posts of the past week would be gone. Examples of irrelevance include arguments over historical battles, national stereotypes, number of minutes needed to get to certain airports on certain roads, contraceptive practices of couples in various countries, etc... Regardless of who is "right" or "wrong," or who is the "bully" and who is being "bullied," can we all try to play nice? Please?
I have been on this forum for about a year and a half now. I read almost every thread and have learned a lot. But lately it's been more informative to watch reruns of some inane reality show, where, even if the bickering is incessant, at least it is less than here. So please, before you make that next comment that escalates another pointless flame war and completely hijacks a previously worthwhile thread, get up from your computer, take some deep breaths, go for a walk, do some yoga, drink some red wine, play with your cat, spend time with a loved one-----whatever you need to do to relax.
well said VNV, I will make my personal commitment to be on topic and within the boundaries; help from the moderator to eliminate the true idiots would certainly help; nevertheless, I will take personal responsibility and clean up my past errors.
abusive language is not allowed here. if you get offended by somebody report to moderator, we will remove offensive posts.
as to speaking not close to the topic (rule # 4). some off topic discussions are even more interesting for members than whole thread itself. it makes no sense to delete such irrelevant posts just for keeping topic in order and it makes no sense to move such posts to another thread which is relevant because half of the meaning of the posts will be lost. so please stay closer to topic or start new thread if you want to say something usefull.
VNV / Nadya,
I've just had a quick browse and I cannot locate any forum rules. Where are they itemised and should they not be a little easier to locate?
While many here will echo your sentiments for active policing of the posts, I fear you will be disappointed. Having fought the same battle in the past, appealing for the forum rules to be applied, I received little or no support from the moderators. Their policy was clearly, any activity, abusive or otherwise, was better than no activity at all!
Most people know the forum could be so much better. The rules are NOT applied, so any response you get from the moderators is them simply paying lip-service. Perhaps in the face of continuous flame wars, they just gave up and let the children, (masquerading as adults), play.
Do a search going back years and the same cycle repeats itself. Different names. Same outcomes.
Once you realsise that you will get nowhere, you will go back to enjoying your existence, without having to engage middle-aged inadequates who clearly thrive on conflict. Hurling abuse might make them feel a little better about themselves but inevitabley takes its toll on ordinary mortals who tire of the game.
Olga,
And yes I know and from previous personal experience how easy or difficult it can be for you to remove post(s).
QuietCharm states:
The rules are NOT applied, so any response you get from the moderators is them simply paying lip-service.
I have to say that I find myself, and from personal experience, in 100% agreement with QuietCharm.
So if a guy says F_U_C_K then it may be reported and it will be considered when indeed such a word should immediately be removed or not allowed in the first instance!
Martin;
"immediately be removed or not allowed in the first instance!"...??
How do you do that other than to view & approve each response before posting it for the public to see? Wouldn't that not only be time consuming & costly, but also take away the personality of users on the site?
Next time someone starts a flame war with you.... don't engage. War's over!
VNV;
Take a look through some of the improper & irrelevant threads and somewhere in the middle you will find that the conversation got side-tracked and actually started producing very useful information. I had NO idea about internal flights, and was ready to book a $140 a night hotel, in Kiev until the topic was switched in the middle of one of Vanechka's crazy threads. It's sorry to say, but the most useful information I've received in this forum, is from Martin & Izi side-tracking one of the IRRELEVANT threads you speak of. Don't like how a thread is going... throw out a bone, and the dogs will come running... that's what Vanechka & 1-2-3-4 do, and all of a sudden the thread's going a new direction.
Ok, F*** it, I'm done spouting off for a while........ :o)
Mindwire,
On such a site as www.pprune.com if someone tries to post a forbidden word then as he submits it is displayed in his post as #### or something similar.
This is not rocket science, the technology is readily available, I just guess it costs a few dollars and that is why it is not present here.
