Firstly, I am an Australian :) I will be going to Denmark in January until November 2006 with a residence permit that I applied for last week. Anyway, while I'm there I intend to travel around Europe and spend some time in places such as Czech Republic, Hungary, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova and hopefully other parts of Eastern Europe. I saw a lot of Western Europe last year and promised myself that next time I would go back to the East, and then after graduating and talking to some great girls at this site, the time has come ... except I'll actually have to work as well :(
Last year as an exchange student in Sweden I visited Russia with an organised student tour and the travel agent arranged all the necessary visas. Crossing the Finland - Russia border in a bus is definetely an expereince :)
However, this time I will be arranging everything myself, and so looking for any advise on what is required to get this organised and how long it would usually take?
While I am aware that a visa is not required for some countries like Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Estonia but I am unsure about visa requirements for Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova. Does having a residence permit of an EU / Schengen country count for anything? :)
Thanks, and hopefully someone is able to provide some advice!
I can't wait to head back to Europe and travelling whenever I get the chance ;)
macc:
having a Schengen does not count towards any of those latter countries you mentioned.Moldova as far as I am aware allows you to purchase a visa on entry although there are few more well informed here on the forum who can clarify that for you.....worldtraveller and jetmba for instance.
Ukraine still reqiuires a visa that can be obtained from the consulate of the country in which you are staying, for example a 6 month tourist visa (single entry) in the UK is about £35 GBP,Belarus is altogether different,in that a letter of invitation is still required and you must also register with the local police within 3 days of arrival. However we also have a resident Belarussian on the Forum, look out for felicedate (Alex) and I'm sure he can bring you up to speed on current changes (if any).
