In the US right now there is a guy trying to get the words "In god we trust" takin off US currency.
I think this guy needs to get a life, What are a few words on paper gonna do to him?. He claims that those words violate an Atheist rights to religous freedom. I am an atheist and the way i see it, is that atheism is not a religon simply snice athiest dont belive in god nor devil.
What are yalls thoughts on this and do you think he will be able to win this fight in court.
Isn`t it strange how so many secular beliefs feel that they should have a political classification and minority status to sanctify their beliefs. I still have a hard time with gays, because since when does sex have a political voice? Or political rights? When I was a kid in grade school, each morning had a ritual agenda. We all recited "The Pledge of Allegiance",then sang "My Country Tis of Thee",and finally,"The Montana Song". This stuff was not exactly forced upon us,but we all sang the words with gusto. " My country tis of thee, sweet land of liberty,of thee I sing.Land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrims pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring" I now wonder about some of the young men and women who were from other countries, and how this did or did not affect them. It is a social indoctrination which is not in use anymore. Our currency needs revamping. For example-the eye on top of the pyramid on the back of the one dollar bill. We all are familiar with the Order of Masons, but most of us do not apply to this fraternal order. It was, however, much more meaningful to the founding fathers, most of them who were practicing Freemasonry. The words Annuit Coeptis ( providence favors our undertaking),and Novus Ordo Seclorum ( New order of the ages) are also outdated reminders of the America of old. EVen worse,"new order" is a phrase taken from Virgil of "The Iliad of Virgil" fame. We might as well use the old slogan "Don`t Tread on Me". Other things which I think are interesting about the dollar--the useage of "13". 13 steps of the pyramid,13 letters in E Pluribus Unum and annuit coeptus,13 stars above the eagles head and in the department of treasury seal on the front,13 leaves on the branch the eagle carries,13 arrows in his other talon,13 tailfeathers...........come on,I get it already!!!! 13 original colonies. It is antiquated and really needs a makeover. So,best of luck to any effort to upgrade what is not a "New Era" currency. I think many people will agree that our American dollar needs a facelift, and these people will petition the government for a long needed change
Spirt, this isnt about completely re-designing the US curreny. Just taking off the words "In god we trust" The other designs such as the 13 stars ect. is just what makes the USD look like a USD. every country has images on there currency thats from the countries past.
Wow--first time I have been referred to as "SPirt". This reminds me of the joke about the word " expert". ( ex is a has-been,spert is a drip under pressure)I was referring to the US dollar, although I like the idea of changing it all. Revision if you will. Change is a good thing. Not likely though, after the big changes already made. Our US flag has made changes through the history of this country in accordance to the number of states. We are not 13 states,we are not a "New Order " of republic, and I am sure that providence, whether divine or man-inspired has little to do with how a man is to be "favored" financially. My opinion is not as radical, but less feasible, than implanted chips which make electronic transfers of money. Some of the earliest civilizations worshipped the sun, and I know I personally worship the Giant Sequoia. I am not repelled by the words "In God I Trust" My personal experiences have given me faith. But maybe the dollar bill should read, "In money we trust". One more thing I have to say--from experience. The eagle is amazingly the most chicken-hearted bird I have ever seen--or just stupidly pacifistic. Some of the largest migrations of eagles-bald and golden, are in Montana, and I have so often wished to see them turn on the little crows which are their mortal enemies, and tear them apart for their constant harassment. It would be like seeing Steve Urkel giving The old Cassius Clay a beating, and watching him run away from wide- eyed Stevie while he says, " Did I do that?" in his nasally tone
You know when my mom first saw a euro, she said "and is this piece of paper worth anything" (please those who use euros don't be offended, my mom is a very conservative but straight forward woman:). I just wanted to tell that a good money design adds up much to it's reputation, and changing the traditions...it's not a very good thing, I think so:)
well,I would love it it this country still had the traditional "gold standard" and we minted the 20 dollar gold double eagle. Our American president Teddy Roosevelt felt that American coinage was dull, and had the 10 dollar gold eagle minted after seeing classic Greek money. These are beautiful coins. A good old design brought back to life is the buffalo ( bison) on the new nickels. One more thing about this, and I will shut up. Why should Andrew Jackson remain on our 20 dollar bills? Does anybody know anything about Jackson? Besides the fact that he shot men in duels, was shot himself, and overseen the slaughter of thousands of native Americans for manifest destiny? We could probably choose a better man for the 20 dollar bill.
Another Fact of Andrew Jackson is he fought against Nicholas Biddle and the institution of the Federal reserve, one of the biggest frauds perpetrated against true economic freedom in America.
I tried praying feverishly for the winning lotto numbers, with hopes to see them in a dream. I don`t think God is the world bank though, and even Jesus will not sign for my loan. SO I pray instead for the Dutchman`s Gold. It is so damn close but yet so far. EVery day I can see the sun rising above it ( The Superstition Mountains )and think about all of the men who trusted to the misinformation of men driven by the search for the mother lode. Massacred Mexicans, flamboyant playboys, women possessed by material greed,caucasian- hating indians zealously protecting a religious symbol from being desecrated by gold lust. I know that if there is any god in this world or the next, these people were not putting their trust in him. I can see their eyes glint maliciously, and their faces morphing into ugly masks like the Golum making designs for Frodo`s ring. And these are just the executives at my own corporately structured place of work!
