Enough already about these scammer stories and how the U.S. government should stop letting Russian women come into this country. I worked for the U.S. State Department for twelve years. Let me dispel some myths here. First of all the policy of the U.S. State department is not to grant a Visa to any female, up until the age of forty, if she is single with no student credentials. Everyone else will have about thirty percent chance of getting in to U.S... The reason for this policy is woman who fall into this age group will come into this country with no resources. They end up being taken advantage of and exploited in some of the most horrific ways imaginable. The Visa policy is to protect them not us.
Second of all, according to a study conducted by the State Department in 2003, seventy five percent of marriages between Eastern European Women and U.S. men stayed enact for the first ten years. Consider the divorce rate in America is hovering around fifty five percent. Bottom line, majority of people finds success in starting a relationship with an Eastern European.
Finally this notion that these women care about money and want to get out of there current situation is ridiculous. Take a trip to Los Angeles sometime. If you do not have money and willing to spend it, you are going to have a tough time finding someone who is beautiful. And that really goes for any beautiful girl in this country. Psychologically girls who perceive themselves to be beautiful tend to gravitate towards men with a lot of money. This is human nature. Bottom line if you want a beautiful woman from the U.S. or abroad, you need to have money. That is the reality. Beautiful Girls from Eastern Europe are no deferent than here. They all want the same things. Calling them gold digging whores is unjust.
Mjdr,
We all want more money, I do, you do, everybody does. It is only human nature to seek a better life, that makes us the same as the ladies being referred to, we're not such bad people so why are they?
Mjdr, It is refreshing to hear from someone who knows what he is talking about after suffering through the spew of the down under group, IE; Vanechka, aussieman41, and Stevo 48.
Just curious though...how does a State Department employee end up with an Australian Education e-mail addy?
I never met any wicked, devious, scam-minded FSU women, but maybe I was lucky. I've met a number of my wife's Ukr/Rus girlfriends who live in our area. My wife's early twenties and had no luck finding friends from her country and in her age group in our area. Two of her friends are in their thirties and had kids before they came here. One of them is a real good friend. You can make an argument that a woman with a kid is probably thinking the future of her child when making the decision to migrate to another country, but so what. Neither of them married rich guys and in fact both work. Another in her late twenties married an American ass** when she was here as a student, divorced, remarried and is very happy now. Her mother is here now as well. This one also married a regular guy the second time, and she works for a living. I know my wife did not marry me for my riches or nationality. She studies hard, she's doing incredibly well in college, she's been selected as a teaching assistant, and helps others and has the satisfaction of making some money that is her own. She's doing much better than most people in her college who were born and raised in America. In a coouple of years, she'll be able to make good money and do something she really likes. This will also give her the opportunity to help her parents with her own money and fulfill one of her dreams. What is so bad about all this? Marriage is great once you find the right person. It's really worth the effort, trust me.
Excellent, post, mjdr. It was well written, cogent, and much appreciated (by many, at least, if not by all.) But surely you're not saying that there are no FSU women perpetrating scams? I think that's universally accepted. (There are also a lot of Nigerian women perpetrating scams, too, if you've ever got one of those infamous emails from a newly widowed Nigerian woman who needs help depositing her recently-inherited millions into a Swiss bank account). In any case, you're right, that it's ridiculous to advocate a ban on Russian women immigrating to the U.S., because one thing has absolutely nothing to do with the other.
I have read a lot here about having better future and better future to their kids. Its typical american thing again as traditional women and family values. These americans themselves are from poor immigrant families who started life in USA and think all these east-european fiances think the same. But nobody to blame...its just their understanding of life.
I have read a lot recently the site "russinawomendiscussion". I have question to my "friend" Nasfan. I never said anything bad about your Larisa, because I dont know her. But isnt she a bit strange and spoiled person? And is this perfect relationship when you must call to translator and ask what your fiance wants from you. And you told here she is super trouper intelligent, why she didnt manage to study language...she havent any kids to take care and she got money to language school.And...does she knows you write about her in this site...???
Any decent parent from any country of the world would care about the future of their children. Young people in America have many more opportunities to a good life than in FSU. The latter is not an opinion, it's a fact. It's not always easy, but it's very possible to realize the American dream if you have some skills and are willing to work hard. From what I have seen in my travels and have been told by others, it is not so rosy in many other parts of the world.
One of my wife's friends who are married and live here now was abandoned by her Russian spouse after she gave birth to her child. She had to work hard on her own to raise her child. She found out that this man died from bad liver because of his alcoholism. She is now having a good life with her American husband. She is a very good wife. Her child and he are getting along very well. She has a life and a future to look forward.
My wife's best friend who lives in Ukraine was married in the age of twenty and was also abandoned by her husband who became a drunkard. She has a little daughter for whom she has to care all by herself. She works very hard to make a living and her parents support her as well.
Is caring about your woman and children traditional family values? you can name it whatever you want. In my mind, it is called human values, it’s just human nature to have your loved ones and care about them.
Annika said: "These americans themselves are from poor immigrant families who started life in USA”
This is so true about many Americans. It is one of the greatest things about this country. It is foolish on your part to say this. It is not even something about which you can blame this country-:) Would you blame your country for allowing you too much opportunity? As you said, even the descendants of poor immigrants have a chance in this country. Would you be able to make the same statement about your own country or are you all coming from noble family trees and have Arian blue color blood flowing down your veins-:)
My country develop really well after we got rid of soviets, thank you very much. So Im single mother and quickly to look for American!!!!! How rediculous! Thats why nothing dont move in Ukraine and Russia, people dont want to develop their country!
You are of course again very patriotic wtrav02...have you heard on your travels that lots of people actually hate USA???
Annika I'm not amercian and if i beleived everything i read in book, see on TV or hear from other people i would hate america too. But i have been there about 10 times and i have to say the people in general are some of the nicest people i have come across. I don't like its government or multi-national companies but the people are very friendly. People who hate america i bet have never been there.
That's right, the American people are very nice, peaceful and friendly. The current administration does not currently represent the majority of Americans who were deceived and misled in the prior elections. This can occur anywhere in the world. Corporate greed exists as it does in other parts of the world. However, have in mind that American capitalism is the best economic system, and that's not an opinion it is a solidly proven fact. You cannot draw conclusions about a whole nation from watching TV. You have to experience it yourself. Speaking from my own point of view, when I returned to the USA recently after a few months overseas, I swear to God, I almost fell on my knees and kissed the ground-:) God I love this country.
Its great you are so patrotic, but try understand not everybody your optimism about USA and its policy. I dont blame nobody just wanted to say americans find economical reasons for marriage totally normal as they have such economic immigrant backround themselves. So all single mothers-american men wait you, change career and better qualifications, forget them!
But as I said before I dont think in all cases economics is main reason and if to read womens forum, lots of girls are unhappy being housewives or low rated jobs in strange country and they havent much perspective. Only strong ones survive.
What about TV, I read so many times men complaining that FSU girls know America from Bold and Beautiful and Sex and City, why do you think I have seen someting negative in TV:):):)(Its was irony, by the way)
Annika77 i don't think you know americans, and your theory about "economical reasons for marriage totally normal as they have such economic immigrant backround" is just that..your theory!
You can't make generalisations about a country...especially when that country is made up of many ethnic groups.
So I was wrong...americans dont accept economics reasons of women? Nice patrot wtraw02 just wrote here that its great that women find bright future and fantastic opportunities to their kids in USA. And nothing to ashame if somebody have economic reasons?????
Ok I sort of heard that america is mix of different nationalities, but you want to convince me that farmer from 18 century Sweden, jew from Mogiljew or somebody from Galaway moved to USA because they have great parties or something! Or spanish people come to USA not because of economics:):) What is my point agin maybe in Europe peoples attitude is a bit more negative to this attitude : Im poor single mother , I live in Ukraine, I must find husband in west because I havent FUTURE in Ukraine.
To be honest I don't really understand what your point is. Are you saying that European reasons for mirgating are not as economic than americans think they are?
Ok I'd agree people in the 18th century didn't move to the USA for parties or something...whats your point, i don't think anyone would disagree with that?
Again Annika you have no clue. I have never used a translator with Larisa. You assume way too much, are way too negative a person. Take care of your own house before you worry about mine. And for you information she has studied english the last two years. And she does know I write on this site. As a matter of fact she is watching me write. This response to you now. See you absolutely have no clue about anything that pertains to anyone on this site. Your input is absolutely useless to most in this forum.
Sorry my english isnt that good. I want to say europeans accept less economically motiveated FSU brides than americans. In forums americans have attitude that poor life and being single mother is reasons to immigrate and thats why american husband is good choice. It is because they are immigrants kids themselves! Or Im wrong?
