recently i tried mailing a package to my woman in russia. it was returned to me 3 weeks later. i don't know why the package was never delivered to my woman. could the reason be that the address was written in russian? anyone have problems sending mail written in russian?
strange. was it regular postal service? there should be a note on the package explaining the reason of non delivery. are you sure that you spelled her address correctly ? or that her address is real?
Try using a courier service such as UPS or DHL, then you can track the package's progress online.
I recently couriered a package to Ukraine, it got held up in customs, they opened and decided it's value and the recipient needed to pay an import tax on it so anything you send then she might have to pay for it.
yes, it was regular mail(4 to 7 days deliver by USPS). i got the package back with no explanation. and no reason why they sent it back. they but a big x over the address. no note was attached. that is the address that she gave me. i'm emailing my girl to see if it is a correct address. before i mailed it, i asked her for the address in english, but she said i should write it as i see it(which was in russian)
I sent a package with some nick nacks and CDs to Ukraine. Total cost of the goods was about 65 dollars. After I paid for the shipping costs and import fees, it cost me about 180 dollars. And it took 1 month and many phone calls to FedEx to do it. Very agravating process.
I always use US postal service, express mail. do not use fedex it is 4 times more expencive, and the same service. fedex is good only for important documents
Are you sure you have the correct postage affixed? The rates have recently been raised for the usps. The address does not need to be in Russian. I work for a statement processing facility and send thousands of foreign pieces out daily. I cannot explain the x however.
well, the postage has to be correct, Spineshank. i bought it to the post office and they gave me the price of the postage and the put the stamp on the box.
I ALWAYS use GLOBAL EXPRESS mail through the US POSTAL SERVICE when I send a package to Moldova.
Te receiving company in Moldiva is actually a private company - not the Moldovan Postal Service. She is notified either by regual mailor by phone and must actually go into a little room with the official in charge. The official opens the package looking ofr anything illegal or valuable while she sits there. Typically they also make comments on the goods as well that seem to go beyond what a customs inspector would generally be concerned with. Its not really small-talk just general nosiness. If the perceived value is above a certain amount - I think $200 - she is required to pay tax on the excess.
Honestly, they do not really know the value of most items - so whatever you write on hte declaration sheet seems to be accepted. But they still go through the motions.
