You can fly to Kiev from u.k Gatwick Airport on ukraine international airlines or fly from Birmingham KLM to Amsterdam and get connecting flight to Kiev though your luggage will probably end up in Sweden like mine did.
DO not not stay in any of the apartments opposite the opera house as the road outside there is cobbled stone surface road and the noise that cars and lorries make on that particular surface make it very difficult to get a decent nights sleep due to to constant surface to tyre noise. I found 3 restaurants in Kiev where the staff spoke English though there are probably more, one was just around the corner and down the hill from the opera house can't remember the name, and tgi fridays is ok also.
Arthur, your kidding.............That means you are leaving on Sunday, tomorrow. You have your place to stay and your airport transportation lined up?????? If you are staying near Khreschatik St, city center, most things are walking distance. I like Double Coffee shop, menus are in english. Nice restaurants on the river, I like Koleso, need taxi though. Irish Pub up from Independence Square. Fridays is near Bessaraka Market. I enjoyed bowling and ice skating also. If you are visiting a girl, she would have some thoughts!. Have fun!!!!!!!!
I just got back on Monday. Stayed at the Dnipro hotel (single room $130) in the center city. Barter with the taxi driver to get you there for $20-25 US and they will do it. At the airport is a free map that has a walking tour of the center city area. It was very nice and takes you through the area. I did it in about 5-6 hours (taking my time). It give some history of the sites on the map as well.
I wish I spent more time there.
Cheers!
