supposedly, according to Holodomar, hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians were starved to death by Bolcheviks and kgb in the 1930's, who I have been told were jewish. they forced the private farmers onto collective farms, but refused to feed them and starved them to death. It's really hard to know what is the complete truth, but this is why there is hatred by some Ukrainians toward Jewish people. Odessa was captured mostly by Romanian soldiers, who were allied with the Nazi's at that time. I have read that at first the Ukrainian welcomed the Nazi's, but the Nazi's only scorned them, and turned the people against them (big surprise) of course it was recaptured later, and today is one of the Hero cities of World War II.
referring to jetbums post here about the Latvian girl calling niggers and all that. i myself am not constrained by the yoke of political corectness but i do not call them niggers. spade ,or black people yes, or if we want to be really politically correct - very dark WHITE people.
I've never been on this forum and the only reason I stumbled upon it was because I was curious about racism in the Ukraine. I haven't read the replys so if I'm preaching to the converted forgive me.
I've recently returned from Kiev where I was shooting a documentary about a band touring Europe. The Ukrainians that looked after the band and myself were some of the warmest people I've ever had the fortune to meet. So warm it was hard to leave.
However. On our last night after the band had played we were in conversation with some of the most calculated, organised rascists I've ever come across. They were little to do with our hosts who I imagine whilst used to such talk were not in cahoots with it. I've filmed everything and was just looking through the footage when I thought of looking on the web.
To cut to the chase. This group of clearly politically active, intelligent people were talking of murder with the upmost prejudice. It wasn't the usual ignorance. It was cold, thought out and very clear to everyone listening that they were not part timers.
I've travelled much of the world and met many people with extreme views but this was some of the harshest rhetoric I've ever heard and apparently common in the new Ukraine. To venture there on your own as black man looking for a Ukrainian girl is going to be risky. If you were with a group of locals i suspect you would much safer.
charles dickens.
i guess it was a "tale of two cities". i suppose it would be quite a similar situation for a white man going to a nation of islam function in deepest chicago, or a white man going to a Robert Mugabe rally in zimbabwe or even a white man that would be foolish enough to go to the american black police association.
Hi charles!!Thank you for your help!
Yes i quite imagine it, because when in one country there is a bad situation, people nedd to give the guilt to someone....
But Can you give me the link to your film???
XTC, you obviously didn't understand Charles Dickens post, especially the part that says "the harshest rhetoric I've ever heardand apparently common in the new Ukraine"
Tesfa That would be an interesting subject to take on live in a Saturday voice chat with the ladies from Kharkov, Ukraine. If you want go to http://discover-ua.com.ua/ and on the top left by home is a contact us button. Send a note to Irina and ask her if she would be interested in using this for one of her live chat session that she hosts most Saturday mornings at 10 AM Central Standard Us Time. This is a 14.95 a month subscription service but there is a free guest position. The down side of the guest position is that there is only one so the first guest to log on gets it and you would need a microphone and speakers on your computer. At this point if you logged on a half hour early you would have no problem getting the guest position but that could change if there is more competition for it.

I copied your question and my response to Irina at the url in the last post. Here is her response to me. I removed my name her email address and her phone number because I did not think they needed to be posted here. But her phone and a contact form are on her contact us page on the site.
Hello ,
please excuse me for not writing back sooner - as always, I am having
very challenging schedule these days. :-)
Please, try to convince this man that if he travels to Ukraine, he is
not going to experience any nationalistic or racial situations.
Ukrainians are a very, very tolerant nation; they will even behave more
friendly towards him, if he looks like a foreigner. ;-)
But, honestly, I think he will feel absolutely at home here, especially
if he goes to a larger city like Kiev, Kharkov, or to international
areas, like Crimea. For example, only on our big market in Kharkov, we
have representatives of more than 70 nations, working all together on a
huge territory of the market! Among them, there are numerous black
people, Arabs, Indians, Latin Americans, Turkish and a lot of Chinese
and Koreans. So, he may not hasitate at all about the racial or
national issues in Ukraine.
Unlike Russia, Ukraine is following a very internationally-friendly,
democratic policy.
Please, let this guy have my phone number , and my
email address , if he is interested. I'll gladly
answer his questions.
Thank you once again for being so friendly, and so welcoming to other
people. All of them are certainly welcome to join our community!
You are very welcome. I do not know how or when you plan to go but if you are not using an interpreter I would introduce myself to Irina and get her phone number. She is an English and Psychology professor from Kharkov. At the Borispool airport you can get a sim card for your telephone if it is the right frequency or buy a cheap phone. Last year I bought a Nokia 1100 I think for 70 dollars. I am kind of jealous of it though it has been to the fsu 4 times in the last year and is headed back in two weeks and I have only been twice. If you get over your head then you have an english speaking or she may be able to give you an Italian speaking number you can call.
And use standard precautions Keep a hold on your belongings, keep your wallets and valuables in protected pockets, do not wander around the sleeping districts of the city at night, or lay out in the middle of the street in a drunken stupor. And having white, black, yellow or even green skin has nothing to do with this advice.

nice way of putting it. I was mugged by some of those "very dark white" people (must not say black ) in london 7 years ago. They got my watch and phone, i suppose i should be thankfull i escaped with my life.
