There is no shorter Route, I fly Singapore to Frankfurt or Muchin to Kiev, I like that route, I have use House of Travel in Dunedin they are great and i have used Flights direct http://www.flightsdirect.co.nz. The cheapest i have paid was about $1900 return sometimes it just means changing the dates by a week to get a cheaper flight the most expensive was $2600. I was searching the other day and found a flight to Moscow for around $1700 return ex Auckland. but we would still had to travel by train or flight to Kiev.
I hope this helps,
Hello John
My wife is from Kiev and she has travelled back every year, used Korean Air AKL - Seoul(free night in Hyatt Hotel) then onto Moscow. Then she has to fly down to Kiev
I have been 4 times and used to travel via Bangkok, and use Aorsvit to Kiev from Bangkok. But they doubled the fare to nearly $1600 for the BKK - Kiev leg. Dam shame, as a stopover in BKK is good and cheap.
We have both just got back from 2 months in Kiev. Travelled AKL - Hong Kong - Moscow - Kiev. Not bad -but coming back was Shanghai instead of Hong Kong - and they don't have bloody Transfer system. So we had to go out through customs etc - collect our 22kg bags and check back in. Wasn't at all happy about that since we had already travelled 11 hours and still had another 13 to go. That’s counting AKL - Nelson. IT was a good deal - $2029 each + $89 for the AKL - Nelson leg.
I use http://www.jetabroad.co.nz/
Great - as you said above juggle your dates around and you can snap a cheapie !!!
My problem isn't getting there - I wanted to go last year and gave up because I couldn't get a visa. There is only an Honorary Consul in New Zealand, so all visa applications must go through the Embassy in Australia. After several emails remained unanswered I gave up, and went to Thailand and India instead!
You can get this women (she’s Ukraine married to a Kiwi in Auckland region) to get your Visa for you.
I have a British Passport as well as NZ one, so don't need to use her now. I got a British Passport because my father was born in Scotland. If either of your parents came from Britain - you can do same. Then you can some and go as you please into Ukraine - NOT Russia though !!!
Thanks - I do also have the option of the British passport, and I think that, even wih the cost of $350+, it's probably simpler than the hassle I went through last year. I did actually go to Russia in 2006 (spent a month there and had a wonderful time), and had absolutely no trouble getting a visa or travelling around. It's just that next time I'd like to spend more time away and visit other FSU countries. Does anyone have any tips about getting a Moldovan visa? They don't have diplomatic representation in either Australia or New Zealand.
New Zealand passport holders must get a letter of invitation , here is a link http://www.apartments.kiev.ua/ They will fax you a Letter of invitation which you need for your Visa,it will cost about $50USD If you rent there aparments they will do for free. The Ukraine Embassy will accept Faxed Copys only from Hotels of companys that rent apartments, if you require a personal invitation you need to get the original sent.
If you need any more help let me know. Cheers John
I'm a kiwi and I live in Moldova. I have a passport from an EU country and getting is easy (no visa required). I used to get invitations and travel on a NZ passport but its a hassle now as you can really only get a personal invitation but the person in moldova has to prove they know you (once you have the invite you have to get a visa from an embassy...they don't issue the visa at the airport anymore so even more hassle).
Hi Maxirat, since last Oct. I stay for a few weeks at a time and go and work around Europe/ME for another few weeks or a month. I can only say 50% of the time in the country as I don't have a resident visa (easy to get one but I'm lazy). I have to say I like it. Its nice when you can go to the market and some new food is in season. Now its watermelons. Also there is lots of lakes here and you can go and have a bbq. Not unlike NZ. Weather is great in the summer. Its been over 30 and sunny for the last 2 weeks and only rained once.
Ben
Good on you !!!
Your not missing anything here - weather real crap !!!
We did June & July in Kiev. Weather was absolutely brilliant and we got away b4 it started to get to hot. (but would rather be there than here even-so)
My wife is anti Moldova – could be because her Ex is Moldovan. She reckons its dangerous etc. I will work on her and perhaps visit next year ???
Take care – and don’t damage your eyes on all those “sites” :- ))
Hi Peter, you should definitely try and get here next year, hopefully by then I've have Tri Nations and Super14 on a big screen here. I hear the weather is crap, but its spring there now and September is normally pretty nice. I'm looking after my eyes don't worry :) Just need to make sure I don't get caught looking.
Ben
Will keep it in mind and will work on Lena to visit.
Her and I have an agreement - looking but NO touché :-)
But I still get the odd clip behind the ears !!!!!!!
Hi I hope to get away in May for a month this year. I don't have invitation or up to date EU passport yet, but would like to know any info on good flight options etc. Most of my contact has been with beauteous maidens in the east...best to fly to Lugansk/ Donetsk direct or suck up sights in Kiev and train/bus? I guess some Russian is a necessity travelling alone. Normal acommodation/food costs ? Thank You :)
I live in Kharkov , Ukraine - if UK/EU passport , then its ok to visit for 90 days, in a 6 month period. For great free information about Ukraine see www.kharkovinfo.com
With all due respect what the hell has an EU passport got to do with Kiwi's travelling to Ukraine? BadBanana had only just posted that he doesn't currently hold an EU passport!
