I think it was there last time I did a Russia Visa (2005) and I put down my New Zealand Insurance company name (which I do not have medical with and I have NO medical insurance) and it was never questioned.
Keep us posted on this
cheers
What Maxirat responded to was a question posted by me asking if medical insurance was mandatory for a Russian visa application, for some unknown reason a question that was obviously considered offensive by the powers that be and became deleted.
I'm thinking of taking out a medical insurance policy to cover all my business travel Maxirat, it's about time I did, so I'll take the policy out to commence before my trip to SPb.
A change of name again. Martin coleman .COM is now trying to convince us he is a doctor of Cambridge Neuroscience.
He is still Martin FFC what ever that stands for.
MCC
Good idea
I am a bit silly travelling without. But we (wife and M-Inlaw) have plenty of medical contacts in Kiev - Moscow etc. So getting assistance is no problem with the help of a few $$$
Talking about this - I got a full Ultra Sound done for 50 Grv ($10US) last July. Just for a check up.
The lady doing it nearly fell over when she asked my age and my wife said I was 51. She (nurse) said she had never seen Liver and heart arteries (got another name but cant remember) were so perfect looking.
That made me feel REAL healthy - best $10 I have ever spent :-))))
I'd spend $10 to have a lady say that about me but somehow I think it would be a wasted $10 :)
So many travel insurances do not provide for business or working travelling, for circa GBP61 a year I can get such cover icluding business/work cover, most of my travel is business or work related so for GBP5 per month it's worth it and I'm not getting any younger.
Hey Maxi...question.....maybe if you had paid $50, you would have been told of a little plaque in arteries and some cirrhosis of liver....for the $200 check up.....find you need angiplasty for blockages of arteries and a transplant of your liver!!!!!!! Still feeling good? ;-)))
I always wanted to hear good news from doctor...but best to find out early of any problems.
Do you really think a doctor from Ukraine has equipment and knowledge similar to west?
If it was me, I would have looked to make sure the ultrasound machine was plugged in....you know, just to be sure!!!! ;-))))
My ex-father in law would check in every April at a large Hospital in Veliky Novgorod just to get a plain old physical. Something you and I do in a short afternoon here in USA. He would spend three continuous weeks in the hospital because they did not have an ample supply of medical equipment. Seriously I think they only had "one" of each piece of diagnostic equipment available to the doctors. I was shocked to learn he had to bring his own linens and food. The doctors and nurses only worked the day shift and left the hospital at night. There was "one" nurse at night for over 500 patients. They were pretty much left to fend for themselves at night. I'm happy Maxirat did not experience this type of medical care. Oh and by the way ... it was free!
No wonder the doctors don't get paid much. The "doctor" in Zaporozhye said she got paid $200 per month. That is confirmed by my plane seat mate who was a US doctor hired to help set up medical offices in Moscow. My cousin, a doctor spent some time in St Petersburg. She also says they don't get paid much. She confirms that they don't have much equipment. She also says the hospital used cats to get rid of the mice.
Beemer
That’s not very nice :-(((
You thinking I got a good result because I paid - LOL :-)))))
Mini
I think ex farther in-law was at a sanatorium. Like a health camp. Very common over their. My wife used to organize and allocate people to these places, as part of her work in Kiev. Its free for the patients and just like a holiday (usually for 21 or 28 days stays). So patient care is not like a hospital.
I had my ultra sound because the Mother In-law was getting some breast scans done and the wife said I could get a abdominal scan done. So did it more for fun than necessity.
Small payment to the doctor or nurse is common, gets you in quicker and better attention and more qualified assistance. Chocolates and candies are often used as attention sweeteners also.
Its true about doctors low salary. This is topped up by this payment from patients. They do very well from this !!!
Soviet trained doctors etc have had good training - no problem there.
I got food poisoning in West Ukraine once and Lena called a doctor to the Hotel at midnight - he came with a nurse put a needle in my arse that scared the hell out of me and they never charged anything. Lena forgot to give them something and they never asked. So its not all bad over there !!!
Have figured out the Russia visa & medical insurance (I think),
From the consulate website, rather than print the application form to complete by hand, one can complete it on line and then download one's completed application as a PDF file.
Whatever one has answered it becomes reformatted and I answered 'yes' to medical insurance and from the list of options selected 'personal travel insurance'.
This has been printed on the application form and it doesn't ask for any policy details and from the list of supporting documents that one needs to provide it doesn't ask for documentation of medical insurance.
I'm at the consulate next Monday and should they ask for any policy I can quickly nip back across the road to my hotel, take out the policy online, find somewhere to print it, and leg it back to the consulate with policy in hand :)
I cant see you having a problem, I was never asked for proof of insurance when I applied for my russian visa. The agent I was using (real russia) never mentioned that I might need to produce such a document and th.
You guys are right, I never bothered with that medical insurance on form, I just answered I had medical insurance.
Maxi...sorry didn't mean to put any hexs on you, hope you are really in tip top shape. I am sure you were on your toes the whole day after such pleasent medical news. I was merely suggesting that maybe there is tie in to paying more for medical exam and getting a better diagnosis. I know many canadians come across the border for their medical procedures.....and we go to canada to get our prescriptions filled...go figure????
