To those who's done it or are doing it -- What are the right steps in marrying and bringing a lady from CIS to Canada? Given that there're no fiancee visas (as I understand), what's the best course of action? And how long does it take? General wisdom ... and anecdotes would be equally appreciated. I spoke to attorney, and he kind of lectured me on the fact that they cannot advise on "life decisions" ... but, after all, one's got to know what the roadmap is, right? Your thoughts and experiences would be MUCH appreciated.
haven't got the foggiest what rules apply in your country, however your alien-dep't know the in's & out's - fax them a query, they'll fax back with the relevant info so you'll have it in print. I'm quite sure that all this also can be found on some site somewhere, dig around.
And may I remind you that you PAY your attorney? You pay him to produce legal info, his opinion he can tell to the dustbin after you've left. Or do you maybe LIKE your attorney? Dangerous, that's close to trusting him!
Don't take the roadmap to Hell, there's a stairway to Heaven, just find it. Any Canadians here likely will respond, but you should find out at the proper authoroties first what the various prerequisites are.

Embassy Websites from your ladies country of origin are usually the best place to begin, and most do offer useful advice by e-mail.
"Thunder"
you don't like or trust your attorney?????........you'll be telling us that the tooth fairy no longer exists soon.....:)))))
You are not asking him to make your choices for you, or even to participate in the process of actually finding the girl !!
All you want to know is what you need to do after you have made your choices !!!
As Thunder said, his opinion firstly is not what you asked for and secondly not what you are paying him for either !
"The facts Sir, just the facts"
I really hope you didn't pay him ? !!
NB: A, your attorney isn't by any chance your father is he ?
or maybe your brother ? Because from what you have said he sure sounds like it !!
My dear Boy, it's time you & I have a talk. Sit down, make it yourself comfortable.
You see, we should have had this talk a looong time ago, but now is as good as anytime I guess.
Yeah, I know you don’t believe in the Stork anymore, and in father Xmas only when you find a Lamborhini in your sock, but eh, there is just a bit more to life than humping and burning petrol.
The dearer you pay someone the least you should trust him, and if he’s even remotely related to a cloak-wearing profession be very, very wary indeed. Whether Priest or Prosecutor, tread carefully and weight your words, and phrases like “don’t worry, trust me” should have you up in arms the second they START to echo!
But you see, you invariably pay them, that’s why.
The Tooth-fairy pays you, and this is why this feller can be trusted, you can even turn your back or a blind eye if you so wish. Oh, and he does exist, make no mistake, check any kid who believes in him – real money turns up every time!
So, the moral of the story: Mind the Stork, he’s going to cost you money!!! ;-)))))))
Alex,
Saw your name after posting. Maybe the advice to search the Embassy-website’s is not a bad idea in your case, assuming you’ll speak both languages?
Thunder........so many illusions shattered in one reply........no Stork......no Santa Claus......at least the tooth fairy survived!!!!At least my kids will be glad to hear that one....:)))
Thank you for a (very) tongue in cheek reply my friend!
