Been reading a lot of posts here as I am new to this. My story is a bit different as I didn’t go looking for a Russian chic and got contacted by someone through Match.com.
She had a US city mentioned in the profile but once we exchanged letter she said she was from Russia in a small town close to Krasnojarsk, Russia (about 3500 KM from Moscow). I really did not want to pursue this as it had too many caveats to it...I am 45 she is 30, She is in Russia and I am in US and so on....
I politely told her that I don’t think this will work(for the above reasons) but she persistently kept on sending me emails (I think using the translator) telling me about her life story, family, friends etc. along with her pictures, which were nice and cute and nothing sexual.
So this continues for a month or so and by now she is proclaiming her undying love for me and how we would be happy together. I ask to speak to her over the phone but says it is difficult and is working on finding a way. She is planning to come to US to me...goes to a travel agent and they are asking for $710 for passport and visa...plus ticket. She is heartbroken and does not know what to do.
I am smelling a scam once the dollar figure comes up and tell her to send me copy of her internal passport as I might try to wing something from here. She has sent it across and my fact check shows it to be genuine.
Now here is the dilemma and I need some advice from you veteran folks. I can think of the following situations which might be possible -
Situation 1 - Some guy is using this girls identity and scamming me
Situation 2 - The girl herself is into it and scamming me.
Situation 3 - Remote chance but she could be genuine.
Before I waste more time on this girl(I am certainly not sending the money,)I want to make sure she is real and worth the effort to pursue. I don’t mind flying down to Moscow and ask her to meet me there and spend a week together. How do I confirm if she is genuine and worth the trip. Have any of you guys come across this situation and how did it pan out.
Jack, it is normal SCAM schema that have been used on MATCH.com, and the other sites for many years. They have enough money to pay match.com membership, and look legit to the members. It is 100% SCAM. Please do not waste your time with them. Report to match.com.
match com has many scammers, shes possibly a guy dude:)
its been a while since i touched that site and i cannot remember the deal behind that different country address stuff now, but most sceamers seem to start from a US address.
dont they f8ck you off, specially all that time wasted when you'l new at this international stuff.
Thanks for all your responses. I sent her an email to send me a picture of hers holding the local newspaper with my name written on it. She/He flew into a rage that I did not trust her etc. and was very hurt.
