This thread is for those who have already finished there search to answer questions from those still looking. Most of us have valuable contacts in the places we have traveled to. One of the big items I was always asked for was the map of the Metro in English. No need for it now since smart phones can guide you around most city's now. I use MTC when I am in Ukraine and the map on my iphone4, it gives detailed walking directions to bus stops and Metro to get you where your going.
"I'd stay out of donetsk, poltava, karhkov, or any where south. Inna contacted me from Sumy and said it was bad there even."
That is mis-information...... spent a couple weeks in Kharkov. Where are these problems??? The Lenin statue is now gone.....with no riots???? My friend was in Poltava a few weeks ago. I am sure bowhunter can tell you about sumy and 'all' the problems there. I also spent a few weeks in Odessa.....and 'shaking' in my boots!!!!! while laying on beaches checking out the sites.....maybe Tom Shea, you should visit there and come back and tell us not to visit these cities.
You guys should not believe everything you read about 'someone' saying something about something because they 'heard' something.....jeez
Not long ago some rebel leader was headed to Harkov,,,, and they had plans for that city as well,,, but nothing ever came of it?
Months ago,, someone reported that Odesa was free from troubles,, a few days later rebels took over the courthouse or some other government building.
If Putin gets his wish,,, they will make a corridor to Moldova,,, and wouldnít that go right over Odesa?
This ďInnaĒ TomS speaks of, is a interpreter in Sumy,,,, she should know what is going on in her own city. Her job requires men to come to her city,,, she would be shooting herself in the foot by saying itís bad in Sumy!
Tom is a married man,,, nothing to be gained by lying to him,,, so what could be her possible motivations??
Lonely....I just came from a couple of those cities....I saw NOTHING. I don't know about Sumy but I am sure bowhunter can comment on that city.
I am not commenting on a few months ago...I am commenting on RIGHT NOW!!!! I saw NO demonstrations or anything resembling any kind of troubles. Life was as normal as possible, knowing there are issues in south-eastern Ukraine.
The situation in Ukraine is rather fluid and can change quickly. I think that is another way Putin is terrorizing the people of Ukraine,, reminding everyone that he can strike anywhere at anytime.
My story about months ago, was to show how quickly things can change.
An fb friend of mine was planning a trip to Turkey with his girlfriend(s)! I warned him about some protests that had started at the time. He replied, that there was nothing to worry about where he was going. A night or two later,,, Iím seeing his fb posts about being holdup in some cafť or pub, because a mob was protesting in the streets outside?! And I guess they werenít just waving flags around either.
lonely.....this is a post from a guy from Asian guy on TA from Oct 2nd:
.....are you still in Ukraine? I am from Spokane and i am here now. I am in Sumy on the eastern side of the country and i feel completely safe here. there are no demonstrations and the people here are very pro Ukraine and Kiev even though there is a large population of ex russians here.
This is from a tourist!!! Isn't that the concerns for anyone visiting Ukraine???? I would put a little more weight on something a tourist says/sees. I am not sure why 'Inna' said it is bad in Sumy....compared to what?? I am curious. I guess 'fluid' means one day from another....maybe it was bad on the 1st and good on the 2nd???? ;-))
when I was in Ukraine recently it was 13.40, great for me but bad for locals especially anyone traveling abroad. My friend in Odessa had recently got a raise in pay but with fall of UAH, it ends up being a 'cut' in pay AND to make matters worse, his landlord wants to RAISE his rent!!!!
I wonder if Durak relishes the collapse of Ukraine's econonmy as much as Russia's collapse, since he has been updating the fall of the 'rubble'.////
