OUND THIS AND THOUGHT IT WOULD BE USEFUL....IT SURE HELPED ME UNDERSTAND SOME THINGS I WAS READING...
I noticed that men often struggle with interpreting terms in Russian women's personal profiles. There are two major reasons for that:
Women mean something different when they use a term
Women use an incorrect term
Usually women do not know English well enough, and just pick up words out of dictionary; and having many variants often choose a wrong one. Another thing is that some words have a definite meaning in Russian, and women do not bother to check if they have the same meaning in English. Also, some expressions have a different meaning because of differences in cultures and life standards.
Below you will find explanations of the most common mistakes in terms used by Russian women in their profiles.
Term Reason Meaning
Active rest Literal translation from Russian Outdoor and indoor activities
Careful Incorrect use Caring
Close people Literal translation from Russian People I care about, people that are special to me
Communicable, communicative Using a Russian word Sociable
Communicating with people/ friends Incorrect use Socializing
Counterbalanced Incorrect use Even tempered
Create coziness and comfort at home Literal translation from Russian Home improvement projects, homemaking
Create a family Literal translation from Russian Get married
Russian word "family" does not mean parents and children; it can be only 2 - husband and wife.
Economist Different meanings in Russia and on the West Economist is a name of position in the accounting/finance/sales department. Also may be a qualification one receives after graduating faculty of economics (also commerce, accounting and finance).

High (higher, highest) education Literal translation from Russian College or University degree
High social position Differences in life-style Has a distinctive social status, i.e. works as a manager, or has his own business. But in Russia it works a bit different than on the West: you don't have to be a CEO or the like, or own a blue chip company to be considered having "high social position". Owning a small shop or guest house with 1 employee is fine. Being a lawyer, business consultant or middle manager will do, too. Being a track driver, farmer, computer programmer, teacher in school won't - even if you make a very good living.
Honor Incorrect use Confident, independent
Gay Incorrect use In some Russian dictionaries given as one of the versions of translating "cheerful", "fun loving"
Generous Differences in life-style This is not only about money but the feelings too; the correct equivalent would be "giving" or "supportive".
If about money, it means the man does not use the word "expensive", not greedy. Russians are not used to admit that something is too expensive, or show that they cannot afford certain things. For example, in Russia it's considered to be bad manners to check a bill in restaurant, even if you suspect that you are purposefully over billed.
Also may be used as equivalent to a word "noble".
I want to find a man who is fond. Incorrect use I want to find a man who is loving.
I want to find a second (other) half. Literal translation from Russian I want to find a soul mate.
Intelligent Different meaning of the term in Russian In Russian usually using to name a person who is well educated, well mannered, clever, considerate, gentle, decent and faithful. Russians will usually use the word "clever" to call what English speaking people call "intelligent". The word "intelligent" means that the person is a good person, not only clever and educated but it also describes the type of character.
Intercourse Incorrect use They give the word "intercourse" as the equivalent of the word "acquaintance" in some Russian dictionaries. It is a mistake that appeared with the change of the meaning of the word in the last decades, but keeps moving to future editions from older dictionaries.
Intercourse agency Incorrect use Dating agency
Lovely man Incorrect use Beloved man

GLTALLTOAD your terms & glossary bit is real helpful.
My girl has said both in her profile and in her letters that she is
"very simple". I know that she is definetly not the village idiot! (she is educated and intelligent). I suspect she is saying that she does not like to have things complicated in life and relationships - she is very upfront and almost blunt sometimes.
But as I get to know her, and am planning a trip to ol' Moldova, I would like to get a better handle on this whole "simple" thing.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention - she likes her men to be "simple" also.
Right there I fit the bill with no problem. I have village idiot right in the ol' gene pool. Why my great great grand dad was the town drunk renown in some obscure English town. That is before he got religion and immigrated to the U.S. of A.
But seriously, "what must I do - or be- to be simple?"
I honestly do not know, buddy...
But I am glad someone is benefiting from the glossary.
It certainly helped me quite a bit, specially when an eastern women tries to describe the type of positive or negative "intercourse" she is or not having with other internet men who tried to contact her, lol....
It is true that some of the literal translations the women find in their Russian/English dictionaries cause problems, but I'd be patient.....it's a minor problem.
She likes the simple things in life mate,
blue skies,
pretty flowers,
walking in the park or on a beach with her beloved man,
listening to the rain fall or the waves crash on the shore or rocks,
sitting by the fire on a winters night with her loved one,
the gentle rumble of a thunder storm,
fresh snow on the ground,
a child's smile,
the smell of a winter or summer morning,
waking to hear the birds singing,
the closeness one can feel with the person they adore,
eating together in any place that feels romantic,
watching the world go by,
the "simple" things in life that don't cost money to experience or enjoy.
She wants to feel and experience all these things with her beloved man and no amount of money can ever buy these experiences.
Well thats how she explained it to me when I asked her anyway ;o)))
I'm just yanking your chain mate, with the last line I mean :o))
She just means she isn't hard to please, she is romantic and simple in her views of romance, she doesn't want a complicated hard to endure relationship, money wont buy her love, but love and respect will earn her love and respect in return, she just wants a natural "simple" loving relationship and a "simple" feeling of love and happiness :o))
If you put her in a palace surrounded by as much gold she could eat ( we are back to the Python quotes again !! LOL ) she wouldn't feel happy, but if you put her in a modest house, surrounded her with love and a happy family probably with children she would be the happiest and complete woman in the world.
Tim is quite right. Simple-means simple things in life and isnt hard to please.. but what is simple for one person can be quite complicated for an other. ;-)) So you'd better clarify those things with your girl directly. We had a case with one "simple " girl here: she was surprized that a man who wrote to her could not afford geting a BMW for her ( because her ex-boyfrend could, and that was simple for her ;-))))) LOL
I cut off communication with one this week after translation came out with that she was looking for unisex love, maybe i should have asked her about it.
I decided not to as i was already too excited. might visit her when am there though.
Difficult subject to tackle. lol
One must be so careful when letters have been through software or a "electronic translator" !!!
But if the translator got it right SG, then I think you best keep her ID number to yourself, because we will ALL want her !! :o)))
Olga,
I was trying to look at this ladies use of the word as being on the nicer side of the meaning !! ;o)) A positive view ;o)))
But yes of course you are absolutely correct !! I have never heard of a UK woman describing herself as "Simple" ( I have met 1000`s I would regard as "village idiot simple" though !! But thats a whole other thread !!) But I am sure if many UK women did they would be the "Gucci handbag, Platinum credit card, New BMW, $100 a week manicure, desiring type, "simple girls" !!! "
Take head ensata, Olga has kindly pointed out the possible flip side to this pretty little coin ;o))))
And of course, there is always the slim chance that she may be well educated, but is still as dumb as a box of rocks !! Qualifications don't mean much unless you have a bit of street savvy too !!
Take my X wife, Someone did !!
But the point I'm trying to make is she is 27 almost 28, had everything here in the world she could ever have wanted, all the love she would ever need from me and from all my family and friends, a beautiful home, any car she wanted (she couldn't drive but I was arranging lessons for her when we split) absolutely would have given her the world and been happy to do so, but she went home to Tashkent for a 2 week holiday, screwed a 20 year old boy who has Nothing to offer her (including love because the affair lasted 2 months before he ran from the mess he had created !!) and got herself pregnant, totally f*cking up her whole life in one stupid moment of "lust" "greed" or possibly worst of all "simple, stupidity" !!!
Simple can of course mean many variants :o) I hope very much that for you its my first version :o))
Tim, I hope you meant "take heart" not "Take head"! (lol). I am not sure this is the right forum for that sort of thing. Your unfortunate prior experience is quite a lesson for us all. But it sounds like something really fine is happening for you with Natasha now.
Lucy is educated, but has great common sence and is practical. She has a decent job in a soft ware company. Why she even wants to start paper work for coming here to the U.S. 3 months before we visit - because of the lengthy process. She apologeticaly says that it is premature, and that we obviously won't know whether we have a future until I visit in July. She has a friend that is living in the U.S. with her U.S. hubby, so she is aquainted with the process. I don't think she has a BMW mentality of simplicity as she trying to save me money already. And she absolutely gushes to the nth degree when I send her flowers or calls! Unless she is just setting me up - but as sceptical as I try to be,, I do not yet smell a rat!
Thank you E, yes I hope too that something very special is happening between Natasha and I, I will know for sure in about a weeks time when we are together :o))) Only 6 days to wait until I leave now !!!
Natasha is always very touched and over the moon when I send her flowers too E, Russian women are not used to being treated so well, and only usually get flowers on their birthday or on "womans day" !!
Any day you care about a lady is a great day to send her flowers, especially when it makes her so happy :o))))
O.k. try this one when your girl uses the word sympathy like "Sincere sympathy and warm from ....." you wonder....did she say she was sorry for me??....warm>??? what???? that was the departure sentence right after the lovey duvy stuff. Sympaty? ...Warm???
