Customs was a breeze, I had about 2.5 K in dolars with me and had no problems at all.
One word of warning however !! Watch you baggage weight allowances !! AeroFlot are bastards for charging for every single ounce you are over the limit, on the way out I paid $60 excess at Heathrow, and a $20 bribe at Moscow to get me to Omsk, and coming back with slightly less than I took (left some things with Natash` for June) I paid about $30 at Omck and then I got mugged by AeroFlot for $125 at Moscow !! They really know how to bump up the price of your flight to make up for the huge discounts they appear to give !!!
Came back from Moscow last week and noticed the sign in the airport said that the limit for undeclaired cash is $3000.00. This was my second trip, and I've always used the green lines and never had a problem.
Also got nailed for over weight baggage going from Moscow to Rostov-on-Don, and had to pay 160 rubles.
Seriouly guys, I kid you not, try to keep your naggage under the limit, or they will rape you !! And you cant do shit about it other than dump some stuff at the airport !!
;) It's a dangerous game putting "rape","sh*t","dump" and a typo in the same sentance and not expecting a comment; unfortunately my beauty sleep made me miss that one.
Dollars,
Pounds are accepted, but they prefer Dollars, and you cant get any FSU currency from any bank until you are in the FSU, they are restricted currency countries.
Take Dollars, but in most places to spend them you will need to exchange them for Rubleis. Some of the bigger more expensive restaurants/hotels will accept them, and many of these places accept visa/mastercard too.
Nisse,
Well if that was the case mate, its changed only very very recently because my bank in the UK couldnt sell me Rubels 3 weeks ago, far as they are concerned its a closed currency country and they are not available in the UK which is where Del` will be leaving from, and as far as I know he isnt planning to go via Stockholm mate.
