I hardly think it productive to swim against the current when we meet a woman and her family in her hometown.
Considering the gigantic life adjustment she eventualy will make by living in our home towns, it is an insignificant act of consideration towards the entire family to dress up for the ocassion...as it is customary in HER village, town, city or country.
Those of you who suffer from "suit&titis" may want to reconsider your dressing ways...at least until she thinks you're so wonderful that she will love you even if you wear nothing more than loinchothes for the rest of your lives.
I agree with you GLTALLTOAD, I not much of a shirt and tie guy myself but if that's what they expect, I'm going the uncomfortable route. BTW Tarzan wore loincloth his whole life and ended up with Jane! Thogh I think he was getting Cheetah on the side!
I would hardly be individual and as unique as I am if I conformed to what others believe is right and acceptance codes of dress.
I am loved for whom I am.
Again, you guys are agreeing to something that is either not you or you are uncomfortable with.
If the wearing of a tie is such a big deal (and all I am talking about is a "tie")...they're not the person for me. Smart casual jacket, trousers and shirt is fine and will reflect style and elegance than STIFFNESS and discomfort. But sorry, no tie. It really is a trivial detail that has never and will never cause me a problem. End of Story.
You could always do the Noel Coward Del`, and wear a cravat :o))) Thats pretty individual these days :o)) In fact, wearing a suit and tie is becomming quite rare these days too, other than for Funerals !! So is a suit and tie individual ? Knotty problem these tie issues :o))
I did wear a suit and tie on my second night there (When I went to the folks for dinner) , and it got me more results than I bargained for *wink wink* ;o)))
I was brought up, dressed well. I have lived my adult life - dressed well. Smart casual.
I dislike ties, they make me feel very uncomfortable, hot and bothered. I react unfavourably to them (this isn't about vanity) as my body requires a low temperature and good circulation all of which a tie restricts.
And quite frankly I still look the business without one. I don't think I will have any problems with 'results' without a tie - again, never have, never will. *wwnnsnm*
Usually wearing trousers???? are you sure??? When it's cold or raining of course we wear trousers, as none wants to catch a cold, or get ill on "women's problems" (as we call it here), but when it's warm all girls put on skirts or dresses. Of course there are those who don't like skirts...but there are not many of them, if to believe your eyes when really warmth comes:)
Ptichka, Dont worry honey, it isnt a bad thing to not know who he is, its a bit of knowledge that most of us could do without knowing :o))
And of course Russian women dont always wear trousers, I do like a woman in a skirt, so much more attrractive than jeans, or as they wear here, shell or track suit bottoms !! eeeeewwww :o////
