I have been to Sumy three time's to meet with a wonderful woman I met on line almost a year ago. Finally we have made progress on her attaining a visa. Interview is July 17th. I have found the people [women] there to be extremely friendly, honest and hard working people. Unless your friend speaks English you will have to have an Interpertor and they cost around $50.00 a day for a good one. Transportation is mostly by taxi and it's reasonable, at least I thought so. Your choices of places to eat are many, and I found the food good. Time will pass quickly, so plan on staying long enough to enjoy the trip.
I was told the trin schedule from Kiev to Sumy was not good, and it was difficult to make connections unless you spoke Russian. Has anyone ever taken the train from the airport to Sumy? I plan on going back in July and undecided if I will go to Sumy or meet her in Kiev for a few days, before we fly home. Hopefully she will have the Visa. That has been something else again getting this far with it.
I have had 3 or 4 trips to Sumy forget the train cab is only 150 for pick up. I get interperetors for 5 an hour. Kiev is a lot more expensive. pm me if you need to order a cab or apartment.
yes i have, i actually go to sumy 2-3 times a year, and i have many friends there. you will find the girls there are very down to earth for the most part. like anywhere in ukraine there are some women that want to use a man for money.Sumy is four hour car drive from kiev.i will be there from october 7-14.i also visit kiev and kharkov.rodney
I was in Sumy 2 months ago the price for a cab was only 100 us last time. there is a bus from the airport I think it takes 6 hours. I rent an apartment from a lady who owns a local agency. I havent used her agency but her interpreters are only 5 us an hour. if you want more info try easyukraine or pm me.
Planning a trip with a tight schedule and the possibility of severe weather that could make the travel to Sumy by automobile impossible is a real factor. It is about 200 miles and good part of that is on what is like a county road in America. If the lady can meet you in Kiev then if the road is not passible then at least you will be together. Check the weather before your departure. Ask how fast the roads would be cleared with the agency you are dealing with or maybe others on this site might know. I too have similar concerns for a trip I am planning. Train travel might be more reliable if there is a chance of inclement weather.
Thanks, that answered my question, train 1st class it is. My only real constraint is that I need to go in December. I have plenty of time once I am there, 3 or 4 weeks if I need it. Only planning on two though.
Hi guys, I'm new to this forum and I think my thread will be of more interest to "Chuckles1970" I have been corresponding with a young lady that lives in Sumy for about 3 or 4 months now and I was supposed to meet her for the first time Valentines weekend (coming weekend). We were supposed to meet in Kiev but she had to cancel on wednesday because dad is in the hospital with a stroke. She called my interpreter friend and informed her. I met her on RWGlobe and just like a lot of you guys I get two or three letters a day and yes there are a lot of scammers out there and they don't discriminate. Because my interpreter friend works for one of the agencies so she has been a very big help to me as far as looking out for me. Anyway I followed up on my lady of interest because of a feeling. As it turns out, this girls thinking and philosophy have blown me away! I mean, I know that agencies try to match the girls with a guys profile. In fact I learned that the agency sent her letters to me not her. So I gave a straight forward reply and expressed interest. Ok the first few letters i thought, man who ever's writing her letters sure knows how i think. I kid you not I started receiving letters that were what I would say (verbatim) to someone that i might be in an intellectual conversation with! Yes I know these women are very intelligent indeed. I will say this, if she is a scammer then she is the absolute best I have come across. It's not like I'm writing and she's coming up with a clever response, if anything I have to step my game up cause she has left me speechless a couple of times. Trust me guys i can hold my own in a conversation but I find this girl most stimulating intellectually. She's 31 with a 2 year old daughter. I'll be 50 in May. I've been divorced for about 10 years now. I have two college age daughters and I've been pretty much around the world so this aint my first rodeo. Like the one guy said, I wouldn't worry so much about the age thing. However I have made an observation about these women from Russia/Ukraine. It seems to me that they are...more sophisticated or have higher moral standards or something than the females here in Germany where I currently live. I can't quite put my finger on it but more times than not i can pick out a female that's from either of the two aforementioned countries even before they speak. Something about their walk and mannerisms. Also, i've been in Germany since Aug '08 and in that time can remember about five females right off the top of my head that were 10's (they weren't all german women either) But seems like every time I go to Ukraine It's like you'll break your neck because of all the hot women walking around and i mean of a variety of ages too! Not to say anything negative about germans but hey, I once heard that the guinness book of world records says that Russian women are among the most beautiful women in the world...must be all the residual vodka in the genes. I've had a profile on globaladies /European connections for years. In fact I went to the head Quarters of European connections in Atlanta, Ga., before they sold or became RWGlode.com I met with the owners and had a nice little sit down chat with them and they gave me some really good info. So when I was working in iraq as a contractor in '04 to '05 I took my first vacation in June of '5 and went to a social in Kiev. I must say I fell in love with Kiev and have visited Kiev five times since then. Most recently was Thanksgiving '08 and New Years '09. I have two families that treat me like family and I feel and treat them the same. Also I've been to Vinnista and Odessa as well. I will have to confess that I am black american and the initial reaction my first visit to Ukraine was...well interesting. I was the only black man in a group of about 30-40 white guys. So naturally there was a bit of apprehension from the ladies and I felt uneasy because my interpreter at the social was pressing me on to talk to as many ladies as I could. Let's just say I froze up because it was too overwhelming! I'm sorry but I'm a simple one on one type guy. Nevertheless it was a great experience and I met some really cool guys! The supervising interpreter (she's married with a son and daughter) and I became really close friends. One of the young ladies that i took out on a couple of dates is a really good friend as well and she eventually met and married a young man from Ukraine. By the way I've never slept with any ukrainian women since i've been visiting Kiev. Its not like i hadn't had the opportunity. I guess i just really enjoy the culture and the people. I found that once they got used to me they really are very warm and friendly and hospitable. Of course I know there's a large MOB element there (not to mention the obvious color thing) but I've have more positive experiences than bad. So, back to Sumy. I already purchased my ticket to Kiev for the up coming Valentines weekend. If my lady friend calls my interpreter friend and gives the green light to come to Sumy to be with her while she nurses dad then that's where i'll go. Not sure if i'll take the train or taxi yet. If not I'll just hang out in my favorite vacation city (Kiev) or go visit my recently relocated and just got married friend Dante in Ukraine's second largest city, Kharkov. Well thanks for letting me share and if I do make to Sumy i'll make sure I report my experience....peace!
Hi The most simple to go in Sumy from the Borispyl Airport is the taxi. The cost is only 100€. But you do book your taxi before your coming. Never take a taxi in the airport. For the train, it's not easy. You do going at the main station in Kiev. You can take also a "Marshoustka" (taxi bus) directly at the airport (+/- 70 UAH, 7€).
For myself, I've my habits at the Pan Hotel in Sumy. (http://hotel-pan.sumy.ua/) It's at the Eurpean standart. They organize my transfert from/at the airport. Sergey is careful.
