poor gecko, you really did not meet any normal people, only money hunters. Ukrainian, Russian people are very friendly, and hospital. Read durak's post.
Only ONCE did I ever date a Ukrainian girl who ordered the most expesnive item on the menu.
Long time readers might recall that when I went to my last set of Romance Socials I happen to meet an 18 year old girl who was the most incredibly beautiful woman I have ever met. I mean this woman would have been perfect on any super model runway. I had no intention od establsihing a relationship with her as, at 18, well it was just ridiculous. So why did I go out with her? Just to say that I dated the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my life. (Not many guys can say that.) And the equivalent of this woman would have absolutely brushed me off in America.
Well, we went out - and she DID proceed to order the most expensive items on the menu. Most of the things she had never even heard of before and had no idea what they were (and didn't like many of them). I permitted it. Why? Because I could afford it (once anyway) and it made for a great story.
Must admit the two Eastern European women I have established relationships with NEVER ONCE ordered the most expensive items on the menu. They have always been reasonable.
Dare I say gecko, that you have to check the source of these women (In other words "Where are you finding them?") Right or wrong they obviously have no particular interest of you (which is not neccesarily your fault) and they just wasnt an expensive adventure which they think that you can provide. You need a better way of picking women.
I agree with what Durak said with the exception of the part about women who have little recollection of Soviet days being less frugal. The women I have been involved with are 28 and 29 years old. That means that they were about 11 when the Soviet Union fell.
Again - regarding the 18 year old. That was just recreation. Is it WRONG to go out with way too young a girl and have absolutely no serious intentions (on EITHER side) for a single date? If it is, sue me.
jetmba, I spent some time (and plenty of money) with a too-young fashion model in Kyiv - who also happens to be very intelligent and well-educated. We definitely weren't going to make a couple, but it was fun, and really boosted my spirits at a time when I was broken-hearted.
I think of the money I spent as a therapeutic expense.
ukraine people are very friendly? i'll have to remind myself that the next time i'm in line and someone walks right in front of me as if i'm invisible.
have you been to any other country? spend a month in thailand. then come back and tell me ukrainians are friendly.
ukrainians are beautiful. and that is why people go there. personalities? not so much.
To not understand the concept of queuing, to wait in turn, does not indicate unfriendliness indeed hostility, it indicates an upbringing or a cultural trait!
Ukrainians are beautiful? Sure, there's less than beautiful people anywhere in the world except Ukraine, what nonsense!
Gecko on a funny note most Ukrainians think we in the west are uncultured. Then I remind them that we don't openly pee in public which I have seen many times and being highly intoxicated in public doesn't happen in the states without a jail trip. One night after a Patricia Kaas concert in Kiev, one poor bastard was so drunk he was falling down and couldn't get back up. 3 Policemen walked by him, picked him up and put his arm around a small tree limb and left him hanging there. I broke up in hysterical laughter. My wife asked me what was so funny. I said that would be a night in jail back in the states, she said, it's normal.
Though I don't walk in your shoes, most Ukrainians I met are very affable, though in may be a language issue for some of us. Cutting in line is rude? Just drive on some of the highways in the states then remind yourself of rudeness.
When I brought my Moldovan lady to the US, one of the places we happened to visit in Florida was Disney World. As anyone who has been there will tell you, ther are long lines for EVERYTHING. Yet people actually STAY in line, and in proper order, and this is WITHOUT the need for a security guard as you would, no doubt, find in the FSU.
My Moldovan lady was amazed. She told me that there was now way that anything like this would work in her country. Nobody would ever respect the order of the lines. SHe said little people and the elderly would never make it to the rides as they would be constantly pushed out of the way by others. I think she was right.
"we don't openly pee in public which I have seen many times and being highly intoxicated in public doesn't happen in the states without a jail trip"
Speak for yourself Nans.
Yeah the queuing system is very different over there. Also buses, they don't wait for people to get off first before getting on. I've found the elderly more aggressive in queues espeically after you push and kick them.
Ben, I was speaking for myself, I didn't start the address as collectively speaking.
Don't you have someone to be an apologist for, oh I forgot you just did.
Ukranians have had plenty of practice at queuing under the old socialist regime, it was form a Long line at the shop for a loaf of bread.
Form a long line for fruit at the grocer if you were lucky.
To not understand the concept of queuing, to wait in turn, does not indicate unfriendliness indeed hostility, it indicates an upbringing or a cultural trait!
????????????
I guess being british doesn't mean you make any sense either.
funny, i don't REMEMBER my mom teaching me the commmon decency of standing in line. Maybe she did though. hmmmm
i guess they teach that in thailand, and spain, and well. every other country i have ever been to, except fsu countries.
martin you have an amazing ability to miss the point. and something tells me your not going to ukraine for the butter faced girls.
I didn't miss your point, your point you made was that if a Ukrainian jumps the queue in front of you then you interpret that as rudeness.
Try going to certain countries in Africa, you'll be lucky to come out of a queue with your wallet and/or health intact but guess you've only experienced Thailand, Spain and Ukraine!
Never would go there?? Hell we wouldn't want an ignorant, illiterate slob like you here anyway. Interesting no one had to go and claim your parents bodies from some loudmouth drunk American? Really what state where they killed in? Laws are different for each state. Just another BS story I'm sure from the forums most prolific liar
Oh Danny, Holland hasn't been around for a very very long time.
you are correct sooty.all of eastern europe was like that until recent times. Now Obama wants to step back to the socialist dark ages and introduce socialist policies to America.
by and large i would put americans in second place behind the thais.
my ex russian wife actually gets annoyed at how nice americans are. (for instance she is accustomed to yelling to get the attention of a waitress. in america she felt that a waiter stopping back to ask if every thing was ok to be a bit intrusive. and you can imagine her surprise when she said that she 'didn't order this' and they apologized and brought back what she ordered and didn't charge her. in america we take so many things for granted. even holding a door open for the next person behind you.
life is so different in russia in ukraine. i'm not saying its bad. if your lucky enough to have a fsu girlfriend you will probably be having an unbelievable sexual experience. the ukrainian beer is good once you get used to it, and cheap as hell. the women are soooooooooooo fucking beautiful. ukrainians love to party and dance and they really enjoy themselves.
some people are really successful in ukraine. most are not. it doesn't have that much to do with looks either.
it has a lot more to do with charisma. if you can't keep a girl entertained, you will lose her quickly.
so practice your initial impression and make sure you got it down before heading over. just like john gruden scripts the first 15 plays for each tampa bay game, you should do the same. theres so much competition you really need to stand out.
Gecko,
Why would any man want to 'keep up appearances', just to impress an FSU woman OR any woman in fact..If they cannot accept you for what you do or what you are, then why bother?...
If Robbie Williams and Brad Pitt were construction workers, do you think the women would still like them??????
But getting back to the queue jumping, this happened to me a few times and in the end, i done the same to them ( only if they were men)..
I even opened a door for a lady with a small child, i didn't get a thanks or a look..I felt like the invisable doorman...
At the end of my time in Ukraine, i had enough and the only way to 'fit in' with people in the country was for me to be the same as them..
This just seemed to be a culture and mentality differences between countries..
