Gentlemen
And I use the term very loosely, can we get back to the original post by Des_persons?
He was asking about financial matters and FSU women.
Let me tell you a story about this. I met a lady who was reasonably financially stable through this web site. She bought and sold apartments in Novosibirsk, Russia. Her ex-husband also paid her alimony. Yes, this sometimes happens in Russia. Anyway, I did not discuss my financial situation with her. I have a good job and have a large house, with a large mortgage. Anyway, I like a lot of Americans keep financial stuff out of our letters. She actually asked me but I diverted the question.
I went to see her and her children this past July. Everything went great. I brought her jewelry, expensive perfume, lots of gifts for her children and family. It was like Christmas in her house when I arrived. When I returned back to the states, we decided to start the fiance visa process. The application was actually in the Moscow embassy ready for her appointment when she asked me what was my financial status. Like I said my financial status is good but because I did not talk about it and I also brought her many gifts, she thought I made more money than I actually did. Remember, in Russia things are different than in the US.
Anyway, she blew a gasket because she thought she was getting a rich sugardaddy. She thought I would pay to put her son in a private US university and her daughter in private school. She said I lied to her. In reality I did not but looking back on it I should have been more open when we decided to get serious with each other.
So now guess what? I had to contact the embassy and cancel the whole process. So here I am back again in this web site to try again. What did I learn? For one thing, not to come across as a rich American when I am just a normal dude looking for a normal woman. One more thing, her Russian temper came out when this happened. She had been so sweet before.
Later.
"Its becoming the mother tongue of 70% of the world mate" Ludicrously false representations are posted in this forum on a regular basis. MIKE00, thanks for your contribution.
My mother has that temper. So did both of my grandmoms. My two sister-in-laws also can be pretty vicious. I say get used to it and always disclose your financial status beforehand.
bollicks king arthur ------your stats must come from a different internet than we all use .
7% my ar-----s - ive visited 38 countries in my life 80% of them i found an english speaker in 10 minutes --russia / ukraine / rumania etc etc in that area its a real worry .
MIKE00, what is YOUR internet? Take a look at Wikipedia, entry "English language" Have you heard of Wikipedia, MIKE00? Do you know what mother tongue means????
Cycleserg and To Moscow,
sorry, I was forced to reply to someone who doesn't know what he's writing about.
It seems we are back to the thread. It really seems very important not to give the lady false impression, and to be honest from the beginning. Cycleserg, didn't you WANT lo look like the rich sugardaddy, with all those gifts?
I think it's normal to try to impress the lady, in a way or another. You want to defeat your competitors, this is a sort of a game, after all. The ladies, in their turn, will try to impress you. I am a normal guy from the financial point of view, and if I pretended to be rich I would obtain the opposite effect in the end. When I want to impress, I play other cards.
So, I try to be honest, and don't try to suggest that the girl's life condition will receive a tremendous boost if she lives with me. But sometimes I am concerned... sometimes I think: why should a lady who is not desperate, has her family, her friends, her job in her country, why should she throw up everything to follow me to my country? She's not going to be millionaire with me... So, why? Maybe she likes me but, is this enough for such a hard and risky decision? Shall I wait for a girl who desperately falls in love with me? I guess these are questions that thousands men already asked themselves... anyway, thoughts and comments are welcome.
I did ask a couple girls the question of why they are on the internet looking for prospective mates.
Most of the girls talk of finding their seond half or their soulmates. I asked if they understood the chances are very high that they would be relocating to the guys home country and if they were open to that. Most said they were open to that. It is something that has to be discussed early so you don't waste your time and her's.
You can tell by their answers whether they would leave. Also on another thread it was discussed about
girl going back to her family after a short time. I feel the more different issues discussed the better
the understanding. Hopefully, You'll find a girl that would be devoted to you!
Thanks for your message. Actually when I feel, after a few letters, that really there could be a mutual interest, I typically ask the girl a question like: "Do you figure what difficulties you could have in the beginning if you moved to a foreign country, with your future partner/husband?" The typical answer sounds like: "I'll have difficulties with the language, no job, etc etc., but with the help of a loving husband etc. etc." These answers, very similar to each others seem to be... pre-manufactured, don't really seem to result from the girls' own thinking. Superficiality about this issue could really lead to a devastating Waterloo, I think - I figure myself as Napoleon, of course, I'm a bit megalomanic, King Arthur, Napoleon... :-))) -. This is one reason why I am concerned about this matter. In one case the answer sounded like "I don't know, I am not going to get married tomorrow". Honesty is appreciated, but... a bit worrying answer indeed! It also happened that an 18 y.o. girl wrote to me first. I am soooo much older than she is... She'll finish her high education courses in 4 or 5 years. So, apart from the age difference issue, no chance for her to relocate within a reasonable time. She's so pretty, cheerful and sincere, that I really don't feel like saying to her: "Hey girl, you see? I am too old for you. Why don't you do your homework or play with the Barbie?" So we have been corresponding with each other for a while, and I consider her like a penpal. Maybe I'll meet her one day but... with what prospective? I'm going to feel like her uncle :-)
I don't want to give a false impression. I am corresponding with several other girls too, not only this teen.
