The trucks in the aid convoy were "mostly empty."
The BBC reported that the aid convoy wasn't carrying much aid or even much of anything. The trucks were largely empty. It's possible the convoy was a carefully timed distraction from other Russian activities along the border with Ukraine.
If Russia wants to resume the "Cold War" and is going to send in tanks armored vehicles and arms to "Ukrainian rebels", then the west resume the old ways too and arm the Chechnya rebels. WHat is good for the goose is good for the gander.
Time for a "Lend/Lease" of arms, aircraft, navel assets to Ukraine. The whittling of existing assets is to soften Ukraine's already weakened military by the traitorous Yanukovych as a precursor to a Russian invasion. Multiple fronts also need to be established. Spend the Russians into the stone age again.
I see no benefit for Ukraine to sit down in Berlin with foreign ministers from Russia, Germany and France until Germany and France show solidarity by canceling gas deals, ship manufacturing and general commerce and Russia vacating occupied lands and stop all hostel actions. They are all just a bunch of worms that have historically just carved up Europe with their dreams of glory, back room deals and betrayal. Srew'em all. Blow the sarcophagus off Chernobyl and watch'em all scramble likes rats.
In a further sign that the rebel leadership may be facing deep problems in its ranks, it said it was setting up military tribunals and bringing in the death penalty for a string of offences including desertion, espionage, attempts on the lives of the leadership and sabotage.
Didn't the Nazis do the same thing as World War II was nearing the end?
AMERICAN SOLDIER KILLED ON THE FRONT LINES IN DONBASS
Mark Paslavsky, age 55 years, had Ukrainian heritage and moved to Ukraine more than ten years ago. He was a US Army veteran, and graduate of the USMA at West Point. In order to join the all-volunteer Donbass Battalion, he took Ukrainian citizenship and took the "course for novice fighters."
His brother Nestor said, "He was a true American and Ukrainian patriot who supported both countries."
He died of wounds sustained in a battle about 20 km EAST of Donetsk, and about 30 km from the Russian border. It seems very likely that the weapon that killed him was supplied by the Russian Federation.
Ethnic American killed in Ukraine by Russian insurgents? Send in the U.S. Marines to protect our people. Russian separatists in Moscow? Ukraine must conduct a referendum for separation from Russia. 100% approval for Ukrainian annexation.
************************ THIS IS IT: RUSSIA INVADES EAST ************************
"The Russian military has moved artillery units manned by Russian personnel inside Ukrainian territory in recent days and is using them to fire at Ukrainian forces, NATO officials said on Friday.
The West has long accused Russia of supporting the separatist forces in eastern Ukraine, but this is the first time it has said it had evidence of the direct involvement of the Russian military."
"Since mid-August NATO has received multiple reports of the direct involvement of Russian forces, 'including Russian airborne, air defense and special operations forces in Eastern Ukraine,' said Oana Lungescu, a spokeswoman for NATO."
Note well: mid-August means about 7 days ago. Russia's regular military forces have been fighting Ukraine's army on Ukrainian territory for at least a week now.
Also, the "humanitarian convoy" just crossed the Ukrainian frontier without the consent of Ukraine's government. Only 16 of more than 250 trucks had cleared Ukrainian customs. Surely, this unlawful move -- also an invasion -- is coordinated with Russia's other military activity.
