From a new United Nations report concerning eastern Ukraine:
"'egregious human rights abuses have been committed in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of eastern Ukraine,' including abductions, extortion, torture, and executions while the areas have been under control of pro-Russian fighters. People detained and abducted have included politicians, teachers, journalists, clergy members, and students."
The Kremlin propaganda machine has labeled the Kyiv government Nazis and fascists, literally thousands of times now.
It is the "pro-Russians", many of them actually citizens of the Russian Federation, whose conduct matches the template of fascism. Excepting actions during the last weeks of Yanukovich, the lawful governments of independent Ukraine have never committed such crimes.
You are correct Durak. The first several months of the Maidan protests showed great restraint. The protest actually began several years earlier with the booths on the street to support Tymoshenko's release. Not until the Russian special forces taking over did things become violent. That was the end of political support for Yanukovych and why he ran. That supports the rationality of the Ukraine people except the loose cannons acting as savages.
there are more than 30 reports of girls being kidnapped as far west as Kherson and Nikolaev to be used as sex slaves in Donetsk and Lughansk. Crime in the occupied cities is off the charts. There are stories of the same car being stolen 3 times over by 3 different people in a matter of hours. Medical care is
non existent.
Not sure if that's the same programme but I recall watching a programme where it was explained than one SR71 mission had a missile up it's ass so they opened up the throttles so much that the aeroplane was flying faster than the missiles chasing it, something like mach 3 :)
The SR71 is a magnificent piece of kit ... I worked Air Traffic Control "Eastern Radar" in quiet little Norfolk in the east of England ... It just so happened that we had USAF bases Mildenhall, Lakenheath, Alconbury, Sculthorpe, Bentwaters, Woodbridge etc. as our primary customers.
At that time, officially, the SR71 didn't exist but we controlled it enough times in and out of Mildenhall and the A10's, in and out of Woodbridge, or was it Bentwaters, they were great fun giving us a "beat up" each Friday afternoon
It sounds like the same link,,,, I found it attached to your You Tube link at the end.
It starts with Dwight D. Eisenhower and the U-2 plane, and goes through Vietnam, Russia, Middle East Libya, and Ronald Reagan
It was fired upon some 4,000 times and was never brought down. It remains the only American plane to suffer no causalities during use. Not 100% sure about during the testing.
We're getting very far afield here, but the Blackbird was plenty prone to crashing. To my knowledge, the great majority were takeoff and landing accidents.
Of 32 built, 12 were lost in accidents, though only one crewman died.
Martin,,, the de Havilland Mosquito is one of the aircraft in my MS Flight Simulator game. It’s not one that I get to fly,,, but only to play against it. I always wondered why it was so easy to shoot down.
Durak,,,, did you watch the video?? I didn’t notice anything said about take off or landing accidents,,,, they were talking about it’s combat record mostly. That’s why I wrote that statement about testing,,, I wasn’t 100% sure.
Here's a little more history. “
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- --
The reason why I posted this link in the first place, was to show Russia’s history of shooting down,, (or trying to shoot down) unarmed aircraft. But yes,, there is an argument to be made for them not knowing that the plane was unarmed. But it flew hundreds of missions over Russia,,,, and never dropped anything!?
In the news this week, they have been talking about all of the Russian bomber flights into American airspace, and the re-opening of an old Artic airstrip. Plus the forcing out of an unknown sub,,,, thought to be an American sub.
WWIII is just a few pressed buttons away,,, but with Obama as our leader,,, we probably will never get a shot off.
And the only two airworthy Avro Lancaster's start flying together in England (RAF Coningsby) today, the Canadians have flown their Lancaster across the Atlantic to pair up with the RAF's Lancaster.
The official word from the west is a ground missile hit the Malaysia Airlines flight. Intelligence on this matter is usually immediately known. It has to be. It would take only hours or minutes before it hits. John Kerry said it was a ground missile almost immediately after the crash. He has not changed his mind.
The official word from Russia is it was Ukrainian jets who shot the plane.
Those BUK SAM missiles don't actually strike the target, they detonate just before impact showering the target with thousands of fragments ... kind of the airborne equivalent of a 'nail bomb'.
That's why the rebels, the terrorists, were so keen to make themselves a bl00dy nuisance around the crash site whilst, as drunken amateurs, they attempted to remove any evidence but one only has to see various panels of the B777 to realise that it was brought down by an airborne equivalent of a 'nail bomb'.
Putin needs to be brought before a war crimes trial, he's more recently f*cking with the internet to prevent his nationals from learning the truth of precisely what has been going on, his days in office are numbered however I feel that number, at present, remains too high.
Sadly Putin has got away with it. If the plane crash victims had been Iranian and Chechens there would have been bitter bloody vengence awaiting Russians that travel on aircraft
"his days in office are numbered however I feel that number, at present, remains too high"
Just after Russia's annexation of Crimea, a best-selling writer of Russian thrillers, Boris Akunin, wrote, "Thanks to his Crimea adventure, Mr Putin has guaranteed himself a life-term in office but I doubt that this term is going to be particularly long."
Note the subtle implication ;)
Akunin continued, "In the absence of a legal mechanism for changing a bankrupt regime the mechanism of revolution switches on. And a revolution in a multi-ethnic country equipped with nuclear weapons is a truly frightening thing."
A little history of how some of Russia's "strong men" have died:
* assassination after overthrow
* killed by prison guards
* strangulation and stomping by dismissed military officers
* blood loss and trauma after legs amputated by bomb
* executed by firing squad
* brain hemorrhage, while his most trusted assistant prevented doctors from treating him
* a bullet through the brain, after begging for his life on the cold floor of a Lubyanka basement
Tsar Vladimir I will be familiar with this history.
