Unbelievable. I finally got a copy of my Latvian police report. I need it for my insurance claim - after getting mugged - kicked in the head and robbed of 80 Lats (about $150).
I complimented the police on being very helpful and professional. I thought I was treated fairly at the time.
My Latvian lady was able to aquire a copy of my police report and email it to me. It si written eniterly in Latvian of course, but she tell me that there is no mention at all of my being robbed or mugges or anything. Evidently it only says that the police were called and I LOST MY WALLET - containing money and credit cards. No mention of the fact that I LOST MY WALLET by being kicked in the head while I was laying on the ground.
I am going to have to do further research on what exactly I have here - but this sure seems to be a way to keep crime statistics down. Guy gets punched and assailant continues to try and kick him in the teeth - and we'll report he LOST HIS WALLET!
Maybe its because my mugger didn't hang around to be interviewed? Maybe its becasue my injuries were not severe? (Had a bruise the size of a pizza).
Guys - take my advice - stay away from Riga Latvia.
Jet,
If running the risk of getting mugged after getting high, buzzed or drunk in a large city is reason to stay away from Riga or any other city, we'd all live in the mountains sheperding goats.
I don't like what happened to you and I appreciate the information in your story to help me prevent something like it happening to me, but it will not discourage me from visiting Riga or any other place in FSU.
I'll make sure I stay sober, do not go out on dark alleys with strange men by myself and maybe prepare myself better than you did before going out to discos.
Some of the risks you took seem borderline foolish and not very productive. I'm just glad you're back home in one piece to tell the story.
Toad - I won't deny that getting drunk in a strange environment was foolish. And I've admitted full responsibility for that many times in this forum alone. But that doesn't change the fact that my police report is a farce - and there is not a thing I can do about it. I was even told to sign it and assured by the only person there who DID speak English that it was a complete recount of the story I told. There was no way that I could check of course - and it ISN'T.
It is VERY westernized, VERY expensive and the competition is VERY great with thousands of western males all over the place. I have nearly nothing good to say about Latvia - and that has nothing to do with the mugging at all.
I repeat - there are other options better than Latvia.
Remember Toad - I considered latvia to be a bust - days before I got mugged. I was attempting to buy a ticket to Moldova. I changed my mind when i met a special lady (and a day later came the mugging). But even that situation (the lady) is not going well.
Even discounting the mugging - Latvia is not as good as anywhere else I went in the FSU.
I just was shoked, about your words... You are so cheap and greedy. Too expensive for you??? Stay at home and enjoy your cheap life and your absolutely not feminine women. No??? So why you saids so dirty words about my country, mmm? And about my culture? Go to Moldova - its a best place for you- cheap like you are, country where women do everyting to be with "foreign" men, but don't complain then that they need only money form you, because you guys think that we are women from "eastern Europe" have to do everything for you and be happy that you choosen us. Its dirty, than 50 years man comming and want to meet 18 y.o. girl. Guys, 18 y.o. - is still baby... I am sorry to be rude... Usually , I am not like that...
I sympathise. It is easy to be shocked by some of the words used here.
Most 50 year old western men are not seeking 18 year olds and while you may be right about some men's motives, your use of the term 'you guys' sounds as if you view everyone here the same. We are not.
As to Latvia. Like Jet, I had a negative experience, that might have discouraged me from visiting Riga again.
However, I enjoyed 'Little Paris' and was treated very hospitably by my hosts. Latvian culture, like Lithuania and Estonia is worth experiencing.
I will never forget the old lady that dances all day long in Old Town. No-one seemd to give her any money at all. Yet, still she dances.
Your comments show that other people use this forum and can be easily offended.
We have had a 'discussion' about this recently'. There is a 2yr old post from Olga called 'Warning.'
latvianlady, I have never been to your country, but I have some relatives there. And of course it is offensive to hear bad things about your native country. I'm sorry for that! But be sure that there are good and bad sides in every country. And people just judge on their experience and that's all:)
As for 18 being still a child...well I was 18 when I started working and earning my money, so my parents didn't give me any pocket money since that time, and sometimes they borrowed some money from me...should I have been called a child at 18? No I don't think so. And I know many girls who start working to support their families, and study at the same time...I don't think they are children:) I talk about real work, and not sex for money!
I think that I have mentioned about my friend got married with an American 30 years older then she. But they love each other, and she doesn't want a younger man. She is not interested in being with younger men. So it all depends on each situation:)
Annika, I like to read what you have to say but please do not make personal attacks on people here, if you want to be rude and controlling try e-mailing the person!
Annika, you'd better ask me first and then make such comments:)
And what is to know life? For me is to watch, talk, anylyze, discuss things with different people and then come to some conclusion:) And what is it for you?:)
I didn't try to teach anybody, I said that when I was 18 nobody would say that I'm a child. My parents never thought of me like of a child, beginning from the age of 5, I was able to do things and then be respobsible for my actions:)))
So at what age should I be to be a grown-up? I thought that being a grown-up means that a person answers for his actions, works, leaves in his own flat, and doesn't borrow money from parents, but instead helps them...maybe I was wrong, I'm not sure, but this is my IMHO:)
That is your opinion and it is valid to you but I certainly do not see her that way, she says she thinks, in her honest opinion, I beieve, maybe it is like this, please be nice, when you attack some one you look foolish and your opinions are important too. Some women are just babes at eighteen and others are 29 at eighteen, don't you think? It is hard with the written language to understand what someone says, more is said in a conversation with looks, smiles, and body langauge than words, we are at a disadvantage. I wish you well!
It is important to have womens discourse here on this forum, I know that many of the guys look forward to the opinions that you two ladies share! It is nice to have the womens view!
Annika, I don't understand your anger at all...I don't promote myself here, I communicate with friends...I show my opinions, honestly, without any lies...when I was asked about some bad things in my country, I explained what are myths and what are not. I think that in every country there are good and bad people...so what is the problem then? I doubt that any country has only good sides and good people living there...am I wrong?:)
Wess you won't believe, my granny is almost 80 years old, but most of the time she behaves like an 18 girl:) It is so funny...but sad that the family suffers from her behaviour much...
