I'm new to this but have met a nice lady from russia, and would like to fly her to america, after reading many articles about being scammed, I was wondering if it is possible to get a visa through a travel agengy in russia in a 3 week period, at least that is what I have been told. The big concern I have is that I need to send $1230 to her for the airfare as the travel agengy would do the visa without also buying the airfare at the same time, the visa costs $350, that she said she would pay for, but after reading about the scams that some women do over there I'm worried that I may be a victim of this,
also is it possible for me to pay a travel agengy direct for airfare with out sending it to her? I would really like to meet her but I also don't want to get burned, can anyone give me some advise about this
Hey dodge, what ever you think about this girl and this particular situation do not send money to any woman you have not met. Go back through the posts here at the forum and get some information. If you have been to Russia and met this woman that is one thing but if you have been exchanging letters and now want to bring her here you are wasting your money because you are beeing scammed I am willing to bet. You can pay any way you want for a visa but she will not get a visa to America because they do not issue tourist visas for Russian girls so this is how you know it is a scam! They have to get a Fiance visa to come to America.
Hi Dodge. Don't send money. There is a difference between sending money, and bringing someone over. Sending money is just sending money.
It sounds like someone's after the money. If you want to keep writing, that's up to you, but there are many other, more sincere, women. Take some time, go slowly. Consider this, it's better to be a little sad with $1230 in your pocket, than really sad, with $1230 in a scammers pocket. Hang in there, there are good people. I've met one, getting married in Oct. The immigration process is long, detailed, and much more expensive. Good luck.
ask her first which kind of visa she is talking about.
it is almost impossible for Russian lady to get other visa than fiance. Even if she were talking about fiance visa it doesn't look like truth. You can't just send her money, you have to date her before she will be eligible for this visa. Furthermore you need to date her in person, not on-line. Usually men go to visit lady in FSU first and after that she applies for fiance visa. When she goes to interview at the embassy it is better if you go with her and bring photos of you and her togeather with date on the bottom of photo or other things prooving that your relationship started a while ago.
so ask her which visa she wants to get. and if she says that she wants to aply for fiance visa, it means either that she is a liar or that she is not aware of process
Like Olga said a Tourist Visa if virtually impossible. It simply won't happen since no tourists from the FSU are currently being allowed. The only visas that are still eligible are fiancee visa (must have met in person within the past 24 months and have proof of the meeting with a waiting time of 4-8 months for processing at her local US Embassy located in her country), Academic visas (at the request of a valid school only for study/teaching abroad - and are now also nearly impossible to obtain unless you are a Professor/Doctor going to teach classes abroad at a school for a term of 1-2 years) and a business visa. For the business visa the person must have assets of at least $400,000 within the USA and be employing at least 10 individuals within the USA for a period of 1 year prior to their application for a Business Visa to have it accepted. The last visa would be the one for a relative or wife, and the wait time on that one can be up to 18 months right now due to the backup in the New Jersey immigration and visa processing center here in the USA.
I may have some of those stats off a little but that is what I groggily remember through the cobwebs when I was researching all of these options.
BrianM...
You seem to know what you are talking about regarding the nonissuance of visitors visas for the FSU. I was wondering if you could give your source (here or through private email). I an interested in bringing a lady over on a Visitors Visa and have heard the talk that it is virtually impossible for a Russian woman to get one - yet i know of several Russian women withing the last few years who received such Visitors Visas.
I have spoken to a Consulate Representative at the American Embassy of the country she is from. I was informed that an application submitted by 10:30 am would be acted upon and an answer given by 4:00 pm. SHe reiterated the fact that the Cosnulate and representatives have to assume that the girl is intending to stay in the US. And it is the job of the girl to prove that she intends to retrun to her home country. This can be done by means of showing that she might own property (a home she will return to) - have a dependant relationship with family, etc.
When I asked what was REALLY the liklihood that a Russian girl would be able to pass the interview and qualify for a Visitors Visa (and that the 4:00 answer wouldn't automatically be "NO") they gave me the official line of course, that they could not tell me how likely that would be. They said that that decision could only be made after the interview process.
Do you know something about actual policy or quotas BrianM?
thanx for everyones response, the visa that she is requestiong is a B-2 or tourists visa, she has informed me that this can be done at a travel agency, and is 100% garenteed, the visa is supose to be legal but she is unsure how they can do it so quickly, I get the impression that she is as new to this as I am, and in the last response from jetmba i also now that she has to take care of her parents and that's where she lives as her father has heart trouble and is unable to work,
You are thick as a brick man, she can not get a tourist visa, her sick parents are the hook in this scam,if she cares for the parents how can she leave to vist you. First off you did not meet this woman here on this site I will bet. You ask the same question all others ask when they get scammed.
I do not know how you feel but I was devastated when i realized the girl was trying to scam me. I though she was to sweet to be so dishonest. Here save some money go to this site read the letters from some of the other guy's the names will be different but the outcomes are all the same. Perhaps you will find her photo. That was how i found out about the girl that broke my heart!
Listen to me, the self proclaimed voice of common sense and butt kicking boot of all the idiots who insist on getting scammed....
Follow these simple rules and you will not be S C A M M E D..!!
RULE #1:
Never send a penny to any woman you have not met in PERSON.
RULE #2:
Never send any money to any woman you have not met and who does not give you specific/verifiable information about her family members (parents, siblings, etc)
RULE #3:
Never send any money to any woman you have not metin PERSON and who does not give you specific/verifiable information about her family members (parents, siblings, etc)....but at the same time claims she loves you!!!
DO spend time reading through older thread about these topics.
Be well, laugh often...:)
"I need to send $1230 to her for the airfare as the travel agengy would do the visa without also buying the airfare..."
she is going to get money from you up front
"i also now that she has to take care of her parents and that's where she lives as her father has heart trouble and is unable to work.."
Just before her trip to visit you he will get very sick and she will ask you for money to help pay doctor/buy medicine before she can leave to visit you. Then you will never hear from her again.
no she will get to the airport and have her bag stolen with passport and visa and cash, she has her ticket to come but needs more money to duplicate the visa 85.00 and 25.00 for the passport and 140.00 to change the flight. Sugar pie I can get there if you just send that much more money I can sleep in the chair here at the airport for three days till I get my paper work strightened out, no honey i do not need a hotel room, well ok if you insist. Please baby we have so much time invested in each other and I love you so!!
i am in contact with a woman from kiev named vikka. she definitly has two children. she says she can get a visitors visa because she has two children and that can be proof enough that they know she will return to them. she seems to know more about it than i do. she says she would just like to visit me and see my world since i have seen hers . but she did say it was tough to get one these days since 9/11. your opinion on that one men.
Thanx wessman, after looking at the black list I didn't find the women I was corresponding with but i did find a lady that was in a picture with her that she had sent. I'm now convinced, thanx all
Start with the US Embassy in Kiev if you are dealing with the Ukraine. They have a pretty good listing of requirements for a Non-Immigrant visa. I went through most of their information since my fiancee is from Kiev.
http://moscow.usembassy.gov/consular/wwwhcn6.html#af
T his contains the exact requirements for the application process and what is required.
Also this quote from the US Embassy in Moscow may be helpful..
"Q: How long before my intended travel date should I apply for a visa?
A: The length of time between the date you submit your application and the date on which your interview will be scheduled varies depending upon fluctuations in the number of visa applicants. We recommend you submit your application approximately six weeks prior to your desired departure date. This will provide for unexpected surges in the number of applicants or other unplanned delays in the process.
Q: Is it possible to get an interview appointment earlier than the one I currently have scheduled?
A: No, in general it is not possible to arrange for an interview earlier than your currently scheduled appointment."
So, provided that the person giving the interview has no disposition to believe you are not taking a tour you could get lucky and obtain a visa. If they have any reason to believe you may be going to the USA for anything other than a chartered tour then it could be denied.
"Section 214(b) of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act requires a consular officer to presume that a visa applicant intends to immigrate to the United States until the applicant provides sufficient evidence to the contrary. For more information, please see the section on supporting documents that can accompany a visa application."
I could dig up more information for you or tell you what I was told directly by the Immigration Lawyer that I contacted and give you his email address if you wish. I also know what I was told by my fiancee when she attempted to contact the US Embassy in her country. But I am sure that is not what you are looking for?
In any case, it smells like a scam for dodger_dasher.
It is a long, convoluted process. She was originally listed with another website and agency. (Scamming, lying, SOB's that they are - who will remain nameless but they are one of the main ones that do the "tours"). From what I now know I can tell you more than you could possibly imagine about the entire Agency business and the "tour" systems.
I sent her a letter through the Eleview postal mail forwarding and also sent her some flowers. They verified her address and returned her picture to me via email of her holding her flowers. In my letter I included my email address and told her that I was leaving this other agency due to possible legal problems (I was one of the guys trying to get a class action lawsuit against them.) If she wanted to hear from me then I asked her to remove her profile and write me directly. A few days later she removed her profile from the agency and replied to me directly. We corresponded and called each other - outside of any agency - for about 5 to 6 months. She has excellent english and at the time was working as an interpreter.
She and I both got along like best of friends. We were both realistic though, and talked quite often about the fact that when we meet in person that it may not work out. So I suggested that she list her profile here on this website just in case it didn't work out. She did, but rather reluctantly. So for a while she was in fact listed with this site through a local agency she knew of and knew to be reliable. During that time she became one of the "Miss Wow's" and we both thought it rather funny. The sheer volume of letters she was getting was amazing. I told her that she needed to write back and she did to the guys she thought were interesting. She always kept it platonic though and friendly.
I finally went to Kiev in mid-April of this year. When we were together it was simply magical. So I proposed and she accepted. She removed her profile from this site almost immediately and some guys were heartbroken. (Sorry guys, but Plan A just happened to work out...)
From firsthand knowledge though I can tell you the girls you write here will be real. If you suspect otherwise, then do what I did. Send them a telegram or postal mail or flowers so that you can be sure.
Also, as another word of advice, I also know from speaking with her (and her finally admitting it) that the other agency website she was originally listed with was in fact a scam. She never saw a single letter I had written her, until I wrote her that first letter by standard post and had the flowers delivered to her apartment. (She later went back to her agency and demanded to see all of my letters.) That during those first few telephone calls she was getting to really know me and that our real relationship was established during the six months just before I went to Kiev. The almost 3 months (and $1500) worth of letters to her original agency were in fact just to some nice lady working in an office pretending to be her.
So in some ways yes, I have been scammed during my search for a wife in the FSU. I am leary about anything that doesn't seem right. But I also got through it - and the scammers - to find and meet the woman of my dreams. So if it is any help or consolation, yes - I used the resources available to me through this website to finally meet my future wife.

amazing this is almost identical to what happened to me in kyiv. brother, i was there in april for a social at the RUS HOTEL hospitalinaya drive by european connections, where you there? and i also used this site and did a search on fiance.com for the women of kyiv. i dated a miss wow if you guys remember my post on women of kyiv and i was suppose to meet another miss wow from that same agency but i was having too much fun and yadi yadi. but brian m, fiance.com only had one agency from kyiv which is now removed. was it another one you used or was it the katrin agency that i helped finger out. that miss wow was also the owner and you should see the amount of letters she had. i am dying to know who your lady is. also, do you not think kreschatyk street is a very cool place to be for the weekend festivals. if i could make the money there that i make here i would move there in a new york minute. all those beautiful slender women in there high heels. spectacular. like those streamlined gizelles running on the serengetti plain. (excuse me)
Ah, so that is what happened. Write me a private email if you want and we can discuss it. You wouldn't happen to be a taller, blond guy from Great Britain would you? Because if you are, we did in fact meet.
