Oh for the nostalgia. The longing for a time when men were men, and women were the weaker sex. Who stayed home and indoor. Who did the cooking and cleaning. Who wore a frock or skirt and had long hair. Who respected the head of the family.
Unfortunately things have changed.
And although Weissmuller (one of the Tarzans) was a good swimmer, females have long ago broken his records.
Could it be that some men have not discovered that things have changed?
and, by the way all you Tarzans, some of the women who have broken Weissmuller's records are russian. the whole world have moved on, also russia.
but for all it is worth, you are welcome to your 1920 time capsule.
go and find your russian speaking Jane.
Unforunately while others have moved forward Russians have hit a road block as of 1998 the growth of Russia has been impeeded and most likely has been backed up by the Government. Things in Russia are in a fast back up mode right now. Lets hope that they do not lock the borders in and out.
Athletic achievements may be one thing, but that doesn't mean that the values that the men here look for in their partners have been thrown out the window like in the west.
Russian Speaking Jane??????That's rich. Fjaeril do the world a favor and go get laid or something. Jesus are you that bored that you have nothing to do in life but piss in peoples corn flakes?
I thought June Cleaver was the only one who deserved a pearl necklace, now fjaeril is looking for the 90's version of one.
perhaps.
but when women starts to break men's old records, something IS happening. it requires a certain determination and personal stamina... and competitive spirit...
And how just does that prove that as a result of their determination, personal stamina, and competitive spirit their view of thier role in a family has changed? How many Russian women have you actually spoken to about this subject?
Fjaeril. Thankyou for the heads up, you are the firdt hear to try and discorrage us fromour goal, not. In the modern world there is a liitle thing called supply and demand. Do you think someone is holding a gun to these girls heads. Who cares about swimming record and such stitty shit you dumb shit. No way Russia has as large a percentage of female athlets as Australia, qwho are great swimmers by the way but still some girls here like family and such things. What is with you guys who come here doing this. There is nothing you are saying that has not already been talked about so pitch in and help, or F*#$&k off
Yes Australia did pretty well in the pool recently.
Both men and women.
I do not know whether the success of a select few female swimmers has anything to do with how the average Australian girl feels about women's role(s) in society.
Of course, Australian women can now drink in pubs.
Wessman - actually Russias economy is BOOMING relative to the crash of 1998. The government is not causing it to stall. There have been some well heralded conflict between the Russian President and certain powerful oligarchs (Yukos etc.) which are internal affairs that might make observers nervous - but the Russian economy is certainly NOT stalled at 1998 levels. Every Russian and Easten European Emerging Market Mutual Fund has perofrmed beter than any comparable funds in the west. Russian may have a long way to go to get uop to speed with the west entirely - but it has a lot of natural resources, determination of the people and it has made a lot of progress already.
I'll take your word though recent reports are saying that almost half of Russia's work force is either out of work right now or working part time. Must have been the Doomday Report in a skid the last four years really hard but just a report. As long as it is not up to full speed before I get there to do some cherry picking, hey did you kill the troll from yesterday or what?
Cause and Effect.
re Tarzan's world.
I think it is the other way around:
Women athletes did not change the world.
Changes to society, including women's liberation, meant that it became common for girls to participate in sport, quite legitimate for women to pursue a career in sport, and also that more resources were made available.
The much bigger talent-pool and the resources for training were the reasons why Weissmuller's old records have long been broken by women.
Male athletes have also benefitted from better resources and training. Weissmuller's records would of course not have impressed anybody in Athen AD 2004.
More 'Janes' want to pursue their own career now, including in sport. And fewer are content with just passively admiring 'Tarzan'.
