I am newly married to the love of my life, which is from Moldova. She will be moving here to USA in January (Direct Filing for CR-1 Visa is such a blessing). We talk about 2-3 hours each weekday and much more on the weekends. We use Internet and Yahoo Web Cam, as well as phone calls. Since the recent wedding we talk on the phone A LOT MORE!! I love talking to her, and she REALLY needs to hear from me often. (You know how a wonderful woman can be when she is in-love). She also talks to my Mom a lot on the phone. They have become very close. Anyway...I am not complaining, but I need to find a way to lower our LD charges. Plus, when she gets here, I want her to be able to talk to her family (great people) as much as she wants (within reason).
I have found a phone card for .10 cents a minute to call her cell phone, which seems to get the best connection. (Speedypin.com) It seems to be the best and most reliable I can find. Still, the cost adds up very fast. Any ideas on a better card? I wish I could find an unlimited minutes card to Moldova.

Has anyone found a good broadband satellite Internet provider than can serve Moldova? I can't seem to find one. If I could we could do VOIP (voice over IP) calls, which would be great when she gets here, because her family lives in a village and cannot even get a good dial-up connection, which I understand does not work well with VOIP calls.
You might try these guys they say they provide service to moldova as well as many european nations. http://www.orbitr esearch.co.uk/docs/mo bile_satellite_broadband.html

my experience with calling cards are the connections are horrible. i mean you can barely understand eachother. especially when you are card calling to a mobile phone .and they usually end up disconnecting.or any one else? when i call from my home phone through verizon on their overseas plan to a mobile the connection is clear . do you have this problem with your calling card to fsu?
jmo
wess, have you tried skype talking to Russians too? My experience with the west (I am Slovenian, Europe) is good, but connection to Russia is so bad that we don't use it any more.
Try going to Nobelcom.com and search for the card that works best for you. Can get as low as .01/minute with a monthly charge or higher without a monthly charge. They also have a card to connect with cell phones.
I use a calling card and have tried skype. I get crystal clear connection using the card. And I cam calling from my cell. No dropped calls. Skype works pretty good too but it did drop my call twice and once my lady sounded like she was calling from the deepest depths of the sea. Tha calling card is a hassle but it works when you aren't by a computer.
I used Nobelcom.com before, but calling cards to Moldova cell phones are less money speedypin.com than they are at Nobelcom.com.
Groon,
Did your lady have dialup on her end, and what is the delay like with Skype? I thought of using skype, but they recommend a broadband connection on both ends, which is the reason for the secons part of my original post.
Nope. I called her land line using Skype. No delay as far as I could tell. If you have a good solid broadband internet connection then you should not have any trouble. I wouldn't even try it with dial up. I've heard it works ok with dial up but I don;t know. I don't know anyone with a dial up account I can test with.
I use skype to call every where in the world and have had perfect reception every time, I am not talikg about free skype from computer to computer but the new version of skype that allows you to call from your computer to a land or cell line, it also allows you a five party confrence call so you can call a person to translate while you talk to your girl. I have talked to Russia and the girl i call is in Moldova. It costs 0.17 euros to call Russia that is about 2tenths of a cent US. I called london for 45 mins and it cost about 2 dollars us and the reception is crystal clear.
"Euro" LOL....But honestly last time I was in Russia I got the impression the Euro was becoming the benchmark currency for comparing prices and the dollar was becoming a forgotten currency. I am worried about the future of the all mighty dollar.
