* The recent election in USA seems to indicate that moral values play an important role for the people there. Some commentators went as far as suggesting that many people see moral values as even more important than the economy.
* The Sovjet government spent a few generations on trying to eradicate the Church. Many profiles list 'Non-believer' under religion.
* People (in the case here: women) try to escape the bleak present and future in the FSU. Many of them want to go to USA.
I am sure there is a lesson to be learnt here, somewhere. If I could just find out what it is!
* The recent election in USA had the largest voter turnout in history, or at least one of the largest...over 60%. From within the bowels of the Democratic Party, the political tradition of "we lost because..." finger pointing already aims to the head of the San Francisco major for defying state laws and authorize same sex marriage licenses, which in turn unified the conservative opposition in higher numbers enough to win reelection for busshy-boy.
* Russian future looks even bleaker if Putin keeps presenting policies of nuclear proliferation and arms race as he did this morning. The last thing the world needs right now is another cold war between east and west.
* anyone can practice their religious and/or moral values wherever they are. Those who emigrate or try to, want to do it under the advantages the capitalistic system of an industrialized western country offers. Nothing wrong with that, nothing at all.
I am trying to figure out what no Idiot can do with out so I can make and sell it, this country is full of idiot's. A rather large majority of idiots voted for George Bush while most of the remaining idots voted for John Kerry. This was a no win election because Hillary clinton was not in the race!
What moron would vote for Hillary??? The good old USSR taught us all we need to know about socialism and communism, it doesn’t work. America gets a lot of crazy stuff to work that most people are too timid to attempt. But why do we want to slide down the dark path? We know socialized medicine pretty much sucks. So why do we want Hillary Care?
Let the liberals secede from the union (America part deux?). Our biggest problem then will be an effective border patrol to keep them OUT of our country. It will only take a few years of pure liberalism to turn it into a third world toilet!

Te only thing I don't agree with that you wrote was your comment on socialized medicine. If there is ANY system conceivable on this planet that is actually worse than big government and socialized medicine - its the patchwork, hodgepodge setup we now have that coers some people adequately, some people not at all and only succeeds in making drug companies, doctors and hospitals very rich. We spend more on healthcare percapita than any other country in the world but come in a paltry 23rd (I think) in quality of that care when comparing longevity, infant mortality and other related factors.
It is hard to imagine a less efficient, or more expensive system than we already have. Maybe Mrs. Bill would change that if she had the chance - but I tend to doubt it. And I fear all of the other changes that the liberal agenda would produce. In that regard I agree with everything else you wrote.
Kiss NIllary's expanded ass all you want...you have 4 years to do it.
But she'll never get past John McCain.
Republicans will not lose ground in the House or the Senate for many years to come.
And as much as I do not like that idea, all I can do is go find my own hedonistic happy place and do the best I can to take care of myself and my loved one.
re
"* anyone can practice their religious and/or moral values wherever they are."
In the first posting I mainly thought of USA and Russia (or FSU, but Russia was the 'senior partner'in the USSR).
However, if you look at the whole world there are many places where people can not practise their religion - unless it is the 'official' religion.
-And, by the way, Marxism WAS the official religion of the Sovjet Union.
And, the Berlin Wall was there to prevent people from getting out, not to prevent people from getting in as claimed by the DDR propaganda!
The marxists spent 70 years on trying to eradicate the Church and managed to make considerably less progress with the economy than the rest of the world!
Is there a lesson to be learnt?
Do we want to learn?
I have to agree with jet.
The demise of the National Health System in Britain due to Margaret Thatchers slavish folowing of Reagans demented fiscal policy contributed to the death of my mother. In pain I might add. I will never forget that bitch standing there in front of the whole world and saying that the NHS was safe in her hands as she set about dismantling it. The USA is big enough and smart enough to set something up that will rival Canadas health system. That is one thing nobody should have to worry about. People making essentially life and death decisions because of co-pays or lack of insurance because of not having the right job. Health needs to be above that, it is a mark of civilisation that we care for our people. Not just those who can afford it but all the sick and elderly. If a family wants to have a child the governing factor should be can we afford the baby not will I be driven into poverty because of the co-pays. Two different things.
Geri,
Stick to what IS.
The vast majority if not all of FSU countries do currently enjoy freedom of religion. Unlike many US cummunities that still ostracizes and belittles those who do not conform to the beliefs of the local majority, however small the community my be.
Just try to hold or advertise an atheist rally or pagan ceremony in good ol' TN or any other bible belt state, lol...
Thank to Lord Bacchus in Heaven that we have coasts in the US.
An "atheist rally" would not be FOR anything, but AGAINST. People would not like that. Why insult them?
Why hold a "pagan ceremony"? The official religions are bad enough, but the old pagan rituals were far worse.
What IS today:
Christians, Muslims, Budhist (among others) have a hard time in China. (Proving that communism is a religion - and 'there can be only one'.)
Christians have a hard time in any Muslim country.
Jews have a hard time in all countries except Israel.
And the list goes on...
For some strange reason most countries with a reasonable living standard also seem to be countries with a certain degree of religious freedom.
The interesting thing is that in the US election many voters seem to have given higher priority to moral values than to economics.
Time will tell whether this means 'personal integrity' or 'watching neighbourhood morality'.
wessman,
If you think that
"... this country is full of idiot's. ..." (sic),
perhaps you can find a country that is more to your liking.
After all, your ancestors probably did emigrate (unless your ancestors were there before Columbus or were transported there against their will.)
And you can find some countries where neither of the candidates are very liked!
Just a thought....
It is no better any where else, we are living vessels but there are no perfect vessels in the world in fact we are all cracked pots, but if I move it will be to Barnaul Russia where all the women are vying for my love, attention, and my sexual prowess.
While I am obviously still here, searching for a Russian woman. And While I can still run off a list of wonderful qualities that Russian women have that you will simply not find in their western counterparts. I am also only too aware that there is no utopia or panacea for western males once you cross formerly uncrossable borders.
Russian women have certain traits, especially with regard to their conception of the western men that they pursue (just as we pursue them) that can be troubling as well.
They DO perceive us as rich - even if they will not admit it and even it you deny it. They can be ultra convincing of wonderful intentions and then turn suddenly to become something else entirely. They are aware that western men tend to fall fo the attention that they provide very quickly and they use this tendency to their advantage. The beleif, as I heard it summed up by more than one woman who spoke frankly is that western men are (Rich and naive.)
Again, I am still here. So obviously I STILL BELEIVE. But I am also wary and I advise any man to be.
Remember every rose has its thorns. If you have never handles a rose before, but only... brocolli florets (western women) you may be momentarily stunned by the beauty at least long enough not to notice the peculiar thorns. Avoid the thorns of course.
I like carnations amd wild flowers too jet, and no thorns either, but I see your point. Perhapa a man here in the states with a comfortable life style is rich conparatively.
