Anybody eles in here, hear about the new nukd Russia has supposedly come out with? Supposedly they invented a new bomb that out does everyother bomb and nobody eles will be able to duplicate it. It was all over the radio stations here, and on top of that they were talking on how you couldnt trust Russians, that they alway betray you, and that the two worstes things you could ever do was 1) Trust a Russian, and 2) Trust your child by themselves with a dog,...a Russian dog on top of that!!! :-)
Im starting to thing the old coldwar hatred of Russians are slowly creeping back. uh oh.
Whether what we did in Iraq was right or wrong - there are those in the world (like the Russians) who are afraid we may decide to someday move against them.
The SDI (Strategic Defense Initiative) is meant to make null and void any threat from conventional nuclear missiles aimed at the US. While that may make us sleep better at night - it does just the opposite for the Russians. The thought that they might be at our mercy under the wrong circumstances - that we could potentially attack them without them having the ability to likewise attack us (the balance of power being unbalanced) does not sit well with them.
What ever this bomb is - I am sure that its mention is meant to reassure the Russian people and those of the world who are not sure of Bush's intentions, as much as it is meant to agitate us.
I am always suspicious of broad statements like a "new kind of missle" that would "render SDI useless". Sounds a bit like smoke and mirrors. I am sure that Rusian inteligence does not have all of the particulars of SDI. And I am also certain that any inherent weaknesses or flaws are known by our people as well.
Putin issued a broad statemetn with few details. Given the secrecy that each country treats its weapons programs to - is there really something to it? Or is Putin simply trying to enhance the image of the Russian military in the eyes of the world?
Bastard,
Your comments would be much more accurate and significantly more credible if you didn't blanket demonize every single russian because of the political decisions their government makes or military programs they develop.
I think the message Putin is putting out (pun intended) is: "We hope this one military advantage will allow us to develop and compete internationally in similar ways than technology did for the Japanese and Germans after WWII.."
Too early to judge anything this particular Russian president is doing. In much more worried about Iran's nukes than Russian "all mighty, unique, nobody has it" bomb.
Toad,
None of this is my believes at all, I am simply stating what I have heard and addressing and showing the ignorance of a few people. I know that the people of every country...is in basis the same..and yes..even the French :-) But as you know some people who listen and hear things on the radio or TV do not think for themselve and put all there faith into other people, and soon a vast majority of people will hate the Russians again because of a few peoples mis guided ways because they do not know the truth and are to lazy to find it for themselfs.
Russian people are PROUD of their culture. Make no mistake about that. They may have suffered econimcally in the recent past but they have not lost their pride.
In Odessa, I took a tour of the catacombs used by the Russians for resistance efforts against the Nazis. It was with GREAT pride that the Russian tourguide described the resistance effort and she even spoke with admiration about Stalin, blaming the atrocities on those under him who never (she said) fully informed him of what they were doing.
The ides of the "Russian Soul" is alive and well in all the FSU. These people may be temporarily economically disadvantaged - but they are not culturally downtrodden.
The Russian people firmly beleive that they will rise as a great power again - and I certainly would not bet against them.

Every time the Russian bear fell down it stood up stronger than before...
There was a lot of propaganda during the cold war - on both sides. We must never forget that we saw and sometimes still see from a Western perspective. And that perpective was biased to serve political and military purposes. Everybody blamed Kruschev for almost starting a nuclear war with the Cuban missile crisis, but there were US nuclear missiles in Turkey and Germany aimed at Russia long before that. Now those were really close too...
And in the beginning of the cold war the US did violate the Soviet airspace a few hundred times with spy missions, something that the Soviets never did.
Many of the USSR weapon systems were more defensive in nature than ever admitted. MIG's were not designed to for deployment far from their ground support systems.
Of course the Soviets got their hands dirty in smaller regional conflicts, but so did the US. Was the USSR ever a direct threat to America?
So back in the seventies I worked at Cape Canaveral now the Kennedy Space Center, we had to build a berm out near the beach to keep the Soviet ships from taking pictures of the base, after that was built they sent balloons over with a prevailing easterly breeze to get the photos of the subs being loaded with trident missiles at this time. We could have caused trouble for their ships and sailors but instead we used their idea of balloons and cameras until sattelites were in place to help fight the war on drugs. That is how they first started to spot small boats bringing drugs into the south east and tracked them back to the mother ship or other ships. I think when it ever came down to crunch time the Soviet Union was our ally i know some one will correct me. I mean we might have fought like brothers do sometimes but usually we stuck together on the real issues ???????
LOL. Does it really matter? I mean really, does knowing there there may be a wepon that can slip past SDI make any bit of difference? Anyone remember the game Russian Attack? That was a fun game.
Bastard-Kid, Very disappointed in your thread! I thought you were going to be talking about a beautiful, blonde haired, well endowed, Russian woman. Ends up being just a thread on a nuclear weapon.
hmm, how about I said that the nuke they made had boobs? would that make this tread better? Big Double D Iron incased honkers.? each outfitted with an atomic detonator? Oooh the power of them breasts,, grrrr. :-)
Re Russian Nuclear Bomb:
Is it possible that Russia is trying to take a leaf out of a book written by first North Korea, then Iran:
"We will built up a nuclear arsenal, but if you pay us we may change our plans...."
???
Come on guys we know who is leading Russia right now is old school and of course if it gets them the attention he misses then he will say or do anything. He only wants to show he is still a bear ready to strike. Everyone knows that our current technologies can blow the world to nothing many times over. Anyone launching any kind of multi missile attack woud be a stupid terrorist and no one wanting to protect his country. Hence we focus on the fight against terrorist and lest putin do his putin around.
