Flanked by police in riot gear, the protesters moved through the fortified city, loudly and exuberantly chanting slogans such as “No more years.” They accused the Bush White House of prosecuting an unjust war in Iraq, making the country poorer and undermining abortion rights.
Funny they chant stop the killing so we can kill our babies at home....tell me that is not strange logic.
In the largest set of arrests, some 50 protesters on bicycles who stopped near the parade route were carted away in an off-duty city bus. Also, 10 people were arrested after someone set a paper dragon float afire near Madison Square Garden, site of the convention, and nine demonstrators tried to prevent the arrest, authorities said. The nine were charged with assault.
Police gave no official crowd estimate, though one law enforcement official, speaking on condition of anonymity, put the crowd at 120,000; organizers claimed it was roughly 400,000.
Around 100 arrest out of 130-400 thousand protesters.
are we going to start an obortion debate now shaggy? And I thought we were here to talk about metting that special girl fron FSU. Maybe someone will start firing ther4e logic back at you if you are not carefull
re
" are we going to start an obortion debate now shaggy?"
There probably was not much of a debate about abortions in the FSU - or in the Sovjet Union.
But there were lots of abortions. And some girls were left infertile after their abortions.
So, the topic is not totally irrelevant....
-also: people who accept abortions might find euthanasia and death penalty easier to accept...
please hoen. Abortion is proven to be bad emeotionaly for the girls in the long run, but at the end of the day, poeple still should have the choice. Funny how you all go on about freedom and how a few losses in Iraq or palstine is OK but as soon as a girl gets an abortion, you are all crying murder. You sence of jsutice is out of balance.
Abortion has little to do with justice or choice. I still rest my ideas on the fact how can you charge a man with a double homicide if he kills a pregnant woman, but abortion is okay. It is not about choice it is about the message of how little we value life.
My point is not abortion but the the point that it is ok to kill babies but God forbid anyone is hurt in a war to protect our country. It is a double standard that I found strange in the above statement. All of the first 4 post came from an artical on the arrest of proteters in NYC that according to many here were politically attacked and wronged. I simply have put the information here for people to see. Trying to let the Ukraine thread get back to its original topic.
Maybe as well if we have the right to choose to kill our young why then do we not have the right to join our military and fight and die for our country. Everyone is trying to protect our soldiers from this "war" but they have no sympathy for the young innocent. Just seems really strange to me.
Just a note Id more babies are killed each year than people died in the twin towers and the soldiers lost in battle. If it was just one then it would be no big deal...kind of like that 13 year old girl in Palistine right.
And besides we can't let those babies threatin our liberal way of life right?
After all they have no rights until they can collect welfare.
shaggy47435, your are unstoppable in your rhetoric.
The only hypocrisy it to damp bombs on innocent people in a meaningless war (that was by no means staged to defend our country) and not care about it because they're not your relatives. I laugh at those conservative evangelical Christians who go to church every Sunday and are such strong believers of their "moral" values, but supported an administration that has killed hundreds of thousand innocent people including babies that you are so sensitive about.
Abortion is a woman's right for choice and neither you nor anyone else have the right to take that away. What is with you people trying to tell other citizens how they should live and what is right and wrong. There will be no SC judge who will ever dare to change the constituion to make abortion illegal.
I find the whole rhetoric quite hypocritical and cliche. If you think you can live your own world insulated by a glass bowl and ignore the other five billion, you are on for a surprise.
I might have something to say about my girl, my woman, my wife, in regards to her pregnancy and the choices she makes yet in the end I have no say, so when it comes to any other woman why should I say anything at all it is not my business. I can have an opinion but what a woman chooses to do is her business and no one else’s. I can try to think like God but in truth I am not. I can not stop a woman from doing what she feels is right or necessary. The world is full of busy-bodies but I am not one. It truly is none of my business!!
Shaggy, as I said, it is proven by study that abortion has bad long term affects for the mother. Its not an easy decission. I am not saying it is correct. You are the one with double standard because as wtrav said, you think it is OK to kill people , inocent women and children because they are from another country and realy it has no bearing in your life. But as soon as something happens in America, abortion, september 11, you get all protective and religious. Try sharing your compassion with the whole world shaggy. After all, we have more similarities than differences, even between religions
I think you miss my point. I do not believe in abortions you are correct. I support the rights of the mother but I think it is strange that the same part of society that claims their interest in human rights forgetts to consider the life yet unborn as deserving of their protections. I also believe that the rights of the father and the child are just as important as the womans. Yes it is her body but the childs body is also in question as well as the genetic material of the father.
My point is that there is a double standard and the people that claim that they must protect society from themselves (ie stop the war and save the inocent soldiers and civilians lives that are helpless to speak for themselves?) is the same group that says society must not interfear with ones freedoms (even if it means trampling the rights of the fetus and the father)to kill their unborn child for what reason...freedom...right to choose...convenience of lifestyle.
This is the most moving example but it is just a shadow of the many double standards present in this way of thinking.
Where do you draw the line. In the old days the father was responsible for his children and wife and could put them to death if he saw fit. There are still statutes on the old books in America allowing such though of course none have any merit or chance to be used.
Again in this instance you have violated someones rights no matter what you do?
As far as caring about things as I have said my family is there now risking their lives for this country and yes there are very real threats there for us. Again wtrav you say we are carpet bombing the inocent but you have no evidence to prove such and again yes the isolated mistake is made and maybe too often it is not the norm of our government or our troops to kill civilians. If so it would be much easier for them to end this thing now and forever.
Again wtrav I would like to know your source for the civilian deaths as I can find no information to support your claims. I would also like to know your view on the thousands of deaths that occured under Sadam and share with us how he was not a threat to humanity.
Tell us wtrav how late term and partial birth abortion is helpful to society and our rights. They say GWBush has hampered their rights and endangered the right to an abortion. Only in the case of late term and partial birth. Should we kill a living being that we have proof can survive indepentant of its biological mother simply because she does not want the responsiblity to raise this child? We have laws in place that let mothers abandon their children legally but death is the better option? How does this fit into our freedoms and rights. Again I agree with every freedom possible until it interfears with the freedoms and rights of others. Let people speak for themselves give them a chance to choose...the chance to choose their own life. We in this country don't even give the individual the right to kill themselves how can we continue to say it is a given right to kill the defenceless child. How can we condemn and kill others for murder of a fetus when at the same time we say the fetus has no rights and is not a life. I do not pretend to know the answer as I say no matter what you do it appears it violates someones rights but I know that once something is destroyed it no longer has any imput or choice. Is that not what freedom is but the right to experience and choose?
Again you can compare the lives of a terrorist people that continue to mount horrific attacks against innocent lives that in no way can bring them satisfaction to the innocence of an unborn child that has done nothing. Again you twist and grab for justification and even take my statements out of context but again you are saying that it is ok to let women murder children. And acting like it is some kind of devine right. Yet because I suport people defending their country and homes against terrorist..not other peaceful people but known terrorist I am so brutal and full of hypocrisy. I say only that I did not say it was ok I said I understand it and yes support it if neccisary to end the conflict that threatens the worlds safety. You are also right that as inhuman as you say it is I do support my own first just as everyone does. As you see here I do not hessitate to share my thoughts with anyone including my own. Again it all comes down to choice. They choose to kill civilians with bombs and openly share their intent to kill westerners at all cost. Go ahead and defend them maybe you will win but in the end they will cut off your head the same as they would mine.
Has anyone ever had a baby shoot at them or try to blow them up. Has anyone ever had a baby born with explosives strapped to his body and jeopardize the health of those around them. I know of no great plot for the unborn of the world to want to do harm to the liberals or anyone else for that matter. But you are correct the terrorist I am sure deserve much more consideration and we should even defend there actions as they have suffered so from our oppression.
Again so I can understand someone explain to me how the rights of the terrorist are more important than the rights of peaceful peoples. How is it that they command such love and adoration from the left of this country. I think we all know that the American people like in the days of Rome enjoy the fighting to passify our board underworked minds. People get a grip we are there to put an end to the injustice that has occured for centuries. We are making the sacrifice now so that our children will not face it later. We gave them over 12 years to stop killing their people and to end the search for greater military power. You bet your ass that given the circumstances I do find little sympathy toward any nation that supports terrorism or the slaughter of there people for there own personal gains.
"Abortion is a woman's right for choice and neither you nor anyone else have the right to take that away. What is with you people trying to tell other citizens how they should live and what is right and wrong."
How is it different than any of our laws to protect the rights of others. How is it any different than you telling me I am wrong for defending the life of innocent Iraqies killed by a brutal dictator. How is it any different than your own attempts to change the outcome of the election in Kiev.
Our sense of right and wrong is all that divides us from the animals. It is that sense of right and wrong that we must keep alive if we expect to keep our freedoms.
