Hmm. If Ukraine retains its former president the country will stay alligned to Russia and stay stagant, if the new wanna be president comes into power it will allign itself to the European Union making it prosper, and a stagnant European Union...un stagnate :-) but if that happens there is a threat the Iron curtain goes back up again a new Cold war and and end to Russian women...and with a prospering Ukraine, no more Ukrainian women either. O' what a headach politics are. Everybody knows the Putin the rascal will not tolerate his oppointed president to lose and if that happens, Russian dictators are known to make rash, and usually drastic actions.
Wonder if this theoretical situation happens I wonder how long this site will stay running? Maybe the turn into a smuggler/black market organization and smuggle Russian ladies here? :-)
LOL, Bastard....
focus your energy, time and efforts to get custody of your kid. I'd leave politics to those who have already demonstrated unmatched ability to fuck up entire countries...:)
I hate to say this - but the Cold War wasn't really any sort of idealogical war where Capitalism triumphed over Communism. It was a conflict between power centers of the east and the west.
Russia finally (and reluctantly) admitted that the economic system it had embraced wasn't working. So it changed. And now under a capitalistic/oligarchical system Russia is doing better, especially with its petroleum wealth.
as it gets back on its own feet economically, the same geopolitical conflict is likely to rear its head.
The problem was that the transformation went TOO smoothly. History is filled with examples of coutries throwing off dictatorial regimes or oppresive governments. Generally such change is bloody and the people cry "Throw the bumbs (former leaders and those with power) out".
Russia went through a fairly bloodless change with the old bosses simply putting on new hats. Party leaders became tycoons. National resouces which enriched controlling bosses became OWNED by those bosses. Sure some archaic practices were changed and outside investment money came in, but those in power remai the same.
Now that they are reorganized, and they don't even have to pretend to follow communist ideals - why should we be surprised that old conflicts arise?
The powerful are still the powerful. The weak are still the weak.
Ironically most commoners who one would think would benefit from a more free society didn't. They were plunged into uncertainty, poverty and more economic upheavel with the fall of communism and and the societal changes. It should not be surprising then that in some ways they long for thing (even if they weren't so good) the way they used to be.
I don't see ethnic and traditional Russians rushing to join the west very soon. And again as Russia tself becomes stronger there will be more resistance to western ways, not less.
And spend one week in Kiev on Independence Square, and you will see what people really want! Their faces shine with energy and delight to be able to fight for their rights!!!
olegnay, with all my respect, Moscow is not the whole Russia, and I assume that life in Moscow is good...but I have seen the small towns in Russia, how they live...I'm very sorry for them!
At least from what I saw, in small towns in Russia they drink much more then in small towns in Ukraine. In Ukraine in small towns people tend to have a big vegetavle garden, some cows, pigs, chicken, and so on:) They just have no time for that:) And for example in one small town in Lugansk region, there is a vinegar plant which sells it's product all over Ukraine:)
I agree with Ptchka except that overall the people of the rural FSU are some of the most frugal and hard working on the planet. They make great friends when they get to know you and their hearts are very big. The cities like all cities have a different breed but the people are still the same deep inside.
Jet you hit it on the head with Putin. It's the same circus just different clowns. The cold war has never ended, it just changed a little. Richard Nixon wrote an excellent book years ago called "The Real War" Tricky Dick the paranoid politician was correct in his foresight. It is a worthwhile read 20 some years after the first print.
Toad
I as you hate politicians. I look for statesmen when I vote. Unfortunately voting has been difficult, most politicians can't spell statesmen. Ron Paul of Texas is a statesman, Ted Kennedy, well you almost need a visa to go to Massachussets it is a different planet in it's own right.
Russia doesnt need to go back to Communism for another cold war, Russia was a super power and as any other country in the world that has the taste that much power and loses wants it back and eventually will try. France at this moment is doing just that and Im pretty sure Germany in its stagnant economic slump is thinking the same thing, unite Europe under one military might to rival America and put France, no Germany,..no France, no Germany!!! in charge of the alliance. Then Russia not going to have such a powerful foe on there doorstep will do something to equal or surpase that power so as not to be intimidated by the West and there you go. Trouble.
The cold war "is over" there are still squables and Russia tries to resist but it like a wipped child but the beast is lain to rest for now anyway. When the money starts flowing into there county so will the anomosity towards the West in there Political offices and the cycle will continue like it has for the last 4 thousand years of recorded human history.
I don't get why there must by any anomosity at all. I understand the hunger for power but why would a people allow such stupidity. Tehn again we in the US allowed Bush to do what he's doing... Oh well.... :(
Come on groon do we really need to start that again...lol We know that it is human nature to want more than the one next to us. I believe even one of the vises we are warned of in most every religion or dicipline. Regardless I fail to see what Bush has done to cause it. I think it has been here awhile and probably will be here when we are all dust.
shag: lol most people seem to not want it. strange huh? And saying it's human nature is a copout. You have what is called self control. I know what I have and what I want. I will not screw another person over just to get something. To give in to that mess is called weakness and a severe character flaw. So you are saying it's ok for men to stray since it's in our nature? To be honest I feel people in general are idiots. I have come to this conclusion after many years of observation. I'm to the point where I expect people that walk up tp me to be incredibly stupid until they show they have more than 1 or 2 brain cells firing. Not sure if it's just lazyness or true stupidity.
Groon, the US presidential election is over.
The majority of the people got what they voted for.
Bush won both the electoral college and the popular votes.
Deal with it. Move on.
It's time to heal your wounded liberal heart, mate.
Maybe it will be different in 4 years.
Yes groon I believe you are correct I have said for years that 95% of the worlds population is critically stupid. I am sure it will lead them to their death. I am saying that history has showed us this is how the groups of humans behave. I did not say I condone it or believe it best but that it is the truth. Humans try so hard to take themselves out of the animal world but the simple truth we came from the same gene pool. Yes we are all the same. Again not proud of it not saying there are not a few strong individuals that can force themselves to act against their human cravings but in the end I put my money on the human portion.
The truth of the matter is that everyone who doesnt think like you are stupid, and vice versa. For a while I came to a conclussion that there is actually only a select few that make benfits for the whole and all the rest of the masses which are all dumbasses reap the rewards of those few gifted people. But in reality there are only a few dumbasses, most people actually do play there part in society and have there own view on matters which they feel is right in there heart. In politics though a democrate or a republican is always going to think the other is an ignorant S.O.B. and the independants thinking they both are on crack and can't understand the difference of ideas between the different parties. Like me voting for Bush was out of patriotism, Kerry wanted to turn countrol of almost everything over to the U.N. we made the actions and I believe it is are responsibility to see it to the end. It is not the people of the countries that really want the power it the patriotic politians of that country who think it is only right for them to be on top, not that there stupid but because of an emotional feeling of insuperiority and a fond rememberance or knowledge of past glories. Feelings and Brains often conflict eachother. I dont blame them for wanting more power but again I'd be damned if I relequish my own or let anybody surpase me, and my trust in that my country will do what is ultimately best in the end is solid. I believe most English speaking countries have the same views about there country as well and the common set of ideas is what keeps all of us united, U.S, U.K especially will be allies until the end, and so to I think Austrailia and New Zealand. I love the English but I personally think they are some of the loudest, rudest people as a majority I have ever met, but I love them like brothers and sisters and have had the opportunity to serve with them more than once. US and Russia will always be in either a shaky alliance or enemies and never fully trust one another, are ideas and way of thinking, just as they are with the woman you are searching for are different and sometimes flat out alien, when Russia gains enough power its going to stick out it chest and demand that someone/anyone appose them, and the U.S. will stick its chest out and ...history repeats.
