geriatrix- Of course long ago the wedding dress being white was symbolic for pureness (virginity). It is a different world now and I can only think that maybe you should be the one wearing the white dress.
It has the meaning that this is an "official" wedding dress, to be like everybody else! I have to admit that many girls are sort of afraid of the relatives or neighbors, thinking "oh what they would say if I will get married NOT in the white dress?! I want to be like everybody else, so that nobody will say any bad word about me!". Of course I don't want to tell that ALL girls think this way, but many do think.
And face it you never see anything other than white in any fairytale wedding...even though of course they are all virgins. I think thats what makes them fairytales...lol
Absentminded vicar started and got about a sentence into the funeral 'ritual' before he woke up and corrected himself and conducted the wedding.
Afterwards he apologised.
Bride: "That all right, Vicar, tonight I shall be under the sod...."
