Greetings everyone and Happy new Year to you all
Well i arrived in St Petersburg to see that it had beein snowing and everthing around me looked white and beautiful.
The city was really interesting and the bars and discos there were interesting too. Prices for drinks varied but still to us was inexpensive.
I met up with 2 girls whom i arranged to see (at different times)and had a really good time with them both. One was 24yrs old and the other 30. The older one lived in St Petersburg and new the city well. She also showed me around the interesting sites of the city and it truly was magnificent. The river was frozen oven with sheets of ice shooting through the enbankments. The people there were a little stoney faced but mainly friendly. I travelled by taxi to most places which cost about on average about 300 rubles.
The restaurants we went to were fabulous and the food great together with the cheap champagne. I can only recall it being really cold on a couple of occasions and that was when you were in the open and the winds got to you.
There were lots of hookers at the hotel who wanted $150 for an hour and i must admit they were really good lookers and well groomed. But i had my hands full and spent my time wisely in the company of girls with whom i had corresponded with and i must admit both were great company.
Well i am hopefully planning to go to Odessa soon and meet up with the 24yr old and get to see her place of birth and maybe meet the folks too.
So good luck to you all in your searches..
I also just returned from St. Petersburg also. I suggest using Tatiana at http://visit-spb.nm.ru/en/index.html for airport pickup and help with an apartment. She is very reliable, smart, and speaks great English. She can help you with everything.
I bought a cheap cell phone in Russia and used that. The nice thing is that now I am in the U.S. and the phone picks up Cingular on the same number, so I can receive SMS from girls in Russia and it does not cost them much.
Funny how those cell phones work. I bought a Beeline SIM card for my ATT (now Cingular) phone, and while I was waiting to board the plane in NY I loaded the card into the phone, turned it on to see if it worked, and it picked up the T-Mobile network. Must be a roaming agreement. I was afraid to make a call in the US with that card as I was afraid it would cost a bundle. Buying that $10 SIM card was the best thing I did as we used that phone many times in Russia. My cell phone worked great everywhere, even better than here in the states.
I visited during New Years and Orthodox Christmas, and I'm now just geting back to visiting the forum.
I'm becoming a St.P regular and recently enjoyed -18C in Moscow before catching the overnight train to St.P for a little less extreme weather. Only -7C!
According to a Russian friend.. one advantage of meeting St.P women is that residents of St.P have few problems obtaining tourist/schengen visas through the Finnish Consulate. They have a special arrangement, while Russians outside St.P have to go to Moscow.
Visas are issued the same or next day. They can then travel to any of the Schengen countries.
The first time they request a visa, they are granted 1 month. The second, up to 3 months.
Having been given the lecture by ex-pat residents about women using men to escape their economic circumstances, I am trying a different approach rather than relying on the internet. It's not that there aren't genuine women, it's just that the risks involved make it a challenge for your average middle-aged insecure, balding, self-deluded soul.
Spare me the knee-jerk defence guys.. just don't fall in love quickly with a picture and some nice words. Get to know the ladies first.
Then surely insecure, oh wait, or self-deluded then.
I'm glad I'm a proud bald fat impotent shy pipsqueak with an inferiority complex living on the poverty line, I luckily don't have your problems Jet.
I still only wonder how you found out my mum dresses me funny, but I'll give it time, I'll find out ;-)))
", I am trying a different approach rather than relying on the internet."
what exactly do you mean? Are you going to SPB and meeting women without an internet connection first? Are you just spending time there and meeting them in disco, or where ever?
75 EUR sounds reasonable for a decent apartment. Do you know where it is located? Hopefully you can find a place near a metro station, as traffic will probably be a nightmare in July.
I paid $80 US/night for a one bedroom apartment in Moscow in the dead of winter, so 75 EUR during high-season in July in S.P. sounds like a good price.
I'll probably be there for the month of July too. I'm looking forward to seeing the white nights.
Careful with the hotels. I found a place just outside the centre of Moscow $12 per night. "No need to reserve a room at this time of year, sir, we have plenty". When I got there... sub-zero temperatures, blizzard conditions... the price went up to $100.
