Guys, If everything goes well I will be visiting Russia in a couple of months. The lady I will be visiting is about to drive herself crazy to learn English or at least enough to communicate while I am there. Does anyone know of a web site or an aide to help. Thanks Bob
I'm not sure about a web site, but I know a very good book (the theoretical part is in Russian) which was my main source of studying English. And I know that many people like this book.
There's several great bookstores right there at the GUM next to Red Square with plenty of options. But just up Tverskaya Street... about two or three blocks from the Marriott is a fantastic book store... right side of the street as you are walking away from Red Square. My fiancee said they had the absolute best selections - from easy to hard - dictionaries - and CD sets to that were very helpful. I hope this is helpful as well.
She picked up English very quick with just the CD set and the accompanying book along with a Russian-English dictionary.
Hey I wanna ask one thing. I approached several girls from Ukraine and Russia. I remember only 2 ladies who were able to write emails on their own. All others used ranslating services. After several mails a mail comes from the translating company, that the lady cannot pay anymore, but she is crazy about you and wants to continue communication with you. And the they send their services and charges to me. Can anyone tell me whether i must go for it, or are they just another scam ? Is there any trusted translation companies available in ukraine ? And yes, one of the girls named Anna replied to me 2 times, and then she stopped for 1 month. After that she sent me invitation and email to register at Confidential Connections , as she told she does not know very good english, and wants to communicate with me, and the services are free for her.
Well I ve heard a lot of bad words about confidential connections around here, is it really worth trying ?
daywalker,
odds on it is a scam, not from Lugansk by any chance is it?
You will have a name of the supposed agency, run an internet search on it, that will reveal if it is a scam or a 'ghost' agency, i.e. not an agency at all.
And what kind of email addy do they have, if it is a mail.ru or rambler.ru address then forget it, these are the equivalent of Hotmail and Yahoo. Whatever their email address is, drop whatever is before and including '@' and enter www. to see what kind of address it is.
DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY and also run an internet search on the ladies name.
