What can one NHL devoted hockey fan do to deal with this sports catastrophe?
Some men here are sad because they do not get to see their women as often as they'd like to.
That's nothing in comparison when we don't get to watch, attend and lose our voices cheering or heckling our NHL hockey players.
Toad I'm a Blackhawk Fan this is a great season for me!!!When Chelios left, and Jeremy gone not much to root for in Chitown! Olegnay I know only one NHL player there now, and that is because he can't play in the states after trying to kill a guy. As a fan, I miss the game, but the players should get paid a hell of a lot more than the cry babies in baseball, football and basketball. That is why I've been a racing fan since my father took me to the Daytona 500 when I was six. No guarantees in that sport, hell your not even guaranteed to be alive on Monday. Drivers lose there rides for not performing, crew chiefs get canned in the middle of a season. Performance based sport all the way around. They way sports should be.
Toad,
If you like exciting sports, try indoor lacrosse. Fast-paced action, no overpaid spoiled winers, and an occasional fight. Anaheim and San Jose have teams.
Mike,
You must be one o' dem ole fans wit a beer in your hand wearin a dirty t-shirt. How many cars you got on your lawn?
Hardy har har Domer!!Too funny, no I cannot rest a beer on my stomach
during a race while I'm slamming a hot dog down my throat! I don't even own a car, I have at truck and two motorcycles so nothing on blocks here, but a couple miles down the road I can take you to a place that either collects old cars or concrete blocks I don't know which. Now I do have some dirty T shirts that says "put something exciting between your legs" with a picture of my Glide. And I still have my old 1976 250 Husqvarna in the garage that I break out every once in a while. Can anyone remember Heikke Mikkola? Norwegian might being so close to his country.
By the Way Ditto, Ryan Newman Purdue Grad Mechanical Engineering, #12 car
Alan Kulwicki was a Michigan Engineering grad who was the last man to win a championship unsponsored. So dem good ol boys who made the sport so great have attracted even the intellectuals.
Me a political science major my emphasis on International studies, so that is an interesting mix.
Dits, I do remember one thing, I used to take my daughter on friday and saturday nights and watch ND hockey, best 3 dollar entertainment in South Bend.
Mikkola became the dirty one after Agostini hung up his helmet Nas. I'd give anything to hear the drone of the MV's again, and seen him winning on it as well.
These two geographical opposites have two strokes, wheels and championships in common, but that's where it also stops ;-)
Thunder
When I was a kid I got to ride against Mikkola in a pro am at Red Bud many years ago. I saw him long enough after the gate dropped and I didn't see him the rest of the moto. That guy was incredible. I go back to DeCoster Suzuki, Ake Johnnsen Maico and Mikkola on a Husqvarna. I'm dating myself a bit, I saw Mikkola do a double at the Nationals and thought that was incredible, different time, different bike. Mikkola's greatness I thought was his toughness, he could win on dry tracks and muddy ones, He was the intimidator of that era in motocross.
Heikki Mikkola (4 times world champion) live sort of close I guess... At least Norway is closer to Finland than USA... The one in this forum that really live close must be Annika.. But speaking of Finland, there has been some really great fins in racing, Heikki Mikkola, Ari Vatanen, Hannu Mikkola, Tommi Mäkinen and many more! But one star I live really close to is the world Rally Champion Petter Solberg :) I know his parents, unckle and bigger brother, but unfortunately i don't know Petter well. I have spoken to him some times before he got famous, but to say he is a friend would be to lie.. But Oboy, that guy can handle a car.. We can talk about 300 km/h on a Daytona Ring or something.. Crazy stuff.. But try 250 km/h (ca 150 miles/h) on a 3 meter wide road made of grawel through the forrest ... Or 250 Km/h on snowy roads in some mountain... That is racing! Talk about extreme sports.. lol
They didn't call him the Flying Fin for nothing. I've watched the world rally on speed vision along with knowing who Petter Solberg is, along with F1. Rally is pretty cool but I prefer the anal puckering and testicle shriveling of riding 200mph on the bumper of another car.
Along with my favorite hand signal that gets caught on the inside cameras of the cars, The one digit wave!
As my esteemed collegue Ditto would say, dem good ol boys know how to haul da 'shine!! Yes I can spel enginer dito
I read an article a few months back that Mikkola lives a quiet life in Finland as a farmer. Quite a change from the Double jumping, whoop riding madman he used to be.
You are right :) The fin was absolutely flying! About cars and racing... Grawel or Tarmac, Nascar/F1 or Rally.. It is all pretty cool in my eyes, I just love it, as long as it makes roaring noise and moves fast I am happy :) It is different types of racing, and are thrilling in different ways. But I think we agree on that it is wild extreme sport anyhow you put it. They call jumping around on a skateboard for extremesports.. huh.. Not at all extreme compared to the danger you meet in racing... Ok, as a skater you can hurt your nuts once in a while.. lol.. but I don't think the nuts is the only place it hurts after a crash in 180 miles or so.. If it is I think the driver should consider himself lucky.. lol
