well it seems many people here are finding success despite those who have come here to discourage poeple. I myself am still looking but have changed my approach. So many failures points to a change of thinking LOL. Anyway I am planning a trip to moscow. I have 1 freind there who I meet on icq and another who will travel to see me again but she is not in my sights for marrige, just realy good friend. I have 2 girls willing to travel from siberia region to meet so I am looking for a girl who is willing to put in some effort. I am also asking another girl from this site who lives a few hundred kms from moscow, waiting for an answer. Anyway the reason I am making this thread is to ask about moscow. So many people here travelling and talking about cities but mot much has been said about moscow to my reading lately. If anyone has any experiences there or know about prices and places to stay, I would greatly appreciate any help or advive. I have always wanted to see moscow anyway and my friend from there has offered to travel to st. petersburg for a few days just to see it as it is said to be a wonderful city. See the sites, meet some friends and make some new ones, hopefully the friend of a life time. I am asking well in advance as I want to get my trip right. So please, anyone been to moscow lately?
ID,
I have not been there, but this last weekend I talked about it with Irina, the wife of a brit friend.
She surprised me when she said the most important things to see in Moscow are located in a fairly small area, so spending a lot of time in moscow and it's overinflated prices at par with the most expensive cities in the world is just plain unjustified according to her.
She also said that, on the other hand, STP has enough to offer a visitor months of things to do and explore. The hermitage alone will keep you busy till your legs can't take it anymore..:)
In the past year, I talked to several moscovite women.
For some reason, their attitudes did not match all that well with my "soft hearted" disposition...(hehehehe)
Regardless of where they were from originally, this women thought that living in the biggest russian city automatically entitled them to receive tribute by any men who approached them.
Big turn off, let me tell you...but certainly not as bad as their western counterparts, at least the moscow women were drop dead gorgeous...
Last week I told a moscow acquaintace from another site that I'm going to see Lena in Siberia...This is a 40+ lady professor at the Moscow University and she just could not accept that there are educated multilingual women outside of her city.
I'm not interested in Moscow. I'll see the sights if and when it's time for Lena to have her interview and other things done for her visa.
Moscow as any biggest cities of the world is a city of contrasts, luxury and trumps are near.
Don't believe that Moscow has little to offer to a tourist. More than enough, and you will have your legs absolutely grinded to ass(sorry) just after seeing several places there. Arbat, VDNH, Tretyakov Gallery, Kremlin, JEsus the Savior Cathedral... Just enormous ammount of places. Plus remember that Moscow for a person who have never been to Russia is like a museum of a different life, different mentality... Great city but to oppressing, advertising everywhere, making business on every square meter of the city. Speed of the cars in the city reaches 100-110km an hour, too fast pace of life for to my liking. Besides the crime rate is very high there, and you can imagine how criminals will "love" you guys walking around with cameras on your necks and (again sorry) silly smiles on your faces. Plus just extremely high prices... Really, be ready for the highest American prices.
STP is a wonder, unique city-museum under the open air. What is great there: everything is mainly in one style, classy and not oppressing like in Moscow. Just remember that the center of Moscow was built in the Soviet times and it was designed to stun a person with all the power of the Soviet Empire. STP is completely different. Very beautiful 17-18 century palaces, churches and so on, everything without advertising, pompousness, hustle. Very classy and stylish. The people are different also. And the prices in my may be not to objective oppinion are lower. I just was both to Moscow and St.petersburg this July and I guess I can compare.
I was in Moscow and St.P 2 weeks ago and also in the summer.
Have to agree with felice. Lots to see and do and when you stand in Red Square for the first time, you are stunned. Visit the Kremlin and Tretyakov. You can save money and see more interesting people by seeking out the Bohemian cafes and bars.
Met some nice people in Moscow, not all hardened by city life.
Also check out The Thorn Tree.. Lonely Planet's discussion forum. Great resource for travellers.
Listen U2,
since you're schlepping all kinds of additives, vitamins, minerals and why to Russia, in a probably vain attempt to fight off cold, flu or worse, ever considered to go get an anti-influenza shot at your local clinic? Costs buggerall whilst it could save more than what you bargain for, in all a bargain I guess.
Now tell me you're shitscared of needles...
Unfortunately the two clinics I checked with, rejected me due to shortage. They said I do not conform to their criteria of high risk in need of the flu shot or anything like it.
"But I'm going to freaking Siberia, lady. I have proof to show you, visa, air tickets, passport, etc etc etc!!!"
"Sorry, Sir, I'm sure you're not being forced to travel to Siberia..."
"I certainly am, dear...if there was a 1/2 chance in hell for me to find a good woman in decent physical shape in this obesity ridden country I'd not be force to look for a wife in other country to br....
Surely a pharmacy has crates of the stuff? It's DIY: buy, screw together, push it in, squeeze and dispose of (of be kind and hand it to a junkie).
I know we live in different worlds but cannot imagine it is that different?
I'm not as paranoid about needles as to say NEVER IN ME, but I do stop short when I have to inject myself, lol...no way!
TD, even pharmacies are still under the shortage guidlelines.
Don't know if you knew this but this flu season, the US FDA (Food and Drug Administration) rejected 50 million contaminated shots from some manufacturer in England, so only those with a foot already in the grave or barely our of the womb get the magic juice.
She was very helpful with everything: airport transfer, booking a private car, finding me a decent apartment in a good location, teaching me to ride the metro, doing some guiding, etc...
I recommend her highly. She speaks great English and is easy to get along with.
Toad, non of the girls I know are from moscow except 1. Mostly agree with you about there attitudes. Mosco is number 1 and all other russian cities are inhabited by a lesser species in most of there opinions :o) As for not being interested in moscow, well as you know I have been 4 times but this time I want to see more than just pretty girls. I have always wanted to see moscow so thats what I will do, the girls will come to me this time LOL
Feli, I have been to russia before so I do have some idea what to expect but thanks for the heads up
