I always have problems figure out what to buy... Of course there is jewelry... But I feel I want to be a little more original! I mean.. this meeting is a meeting that shall make us guys stand out different than our competitors (Do we have one? lol)..
about jewelry, I am not saying I will not give it, but it would be fun to have something else as well, something a little different... Do you read me?
I will start of with the first tip:
Last time I went I found this wonderful book, translated to Russian. Great pictures of Norwegian Fjords, mountains, citys, Trolls and much more... That was a success, and I will repeat it if I have to.. (Don't hope so..). So check your bookstore, may be they have a nice book showing pictures from where you live.
Chocolate is a winner...
Ok, please help me out guys.. I am soon leaving again..
I have brought the picture books too, but the best gift I brought was a not too expensive digital camera. My girl did not have one and she loved it. She constantly sends me photos of herself and her friends. If she is into music perhaps an MP3 player? My girl also likes good quality cosmetics (that are too espensive for her to buy) from Lancome and Clinique.
"...Also got a cheapie but great little gift, the Sharper Image's Talking Picture Frame, it's a digital battery operated alarm clock with room temp in F or C that allows you to record a 10 second voice message and has room for a photo on the inside left lid of the machine.
That way, my poor woman can wake up to the nasty sound of my croaky voice and make her weak heart take a scary jump when the first thing she sees in the morning is my ugly face..:)..."
And if she already has some jewelry, you can buy her the Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner also from Sharper Image at half price $45US, usually $90. i got one, but not sure if I'll bring it or not. For this one you will need a voltage converter from 110 to 220. Ask ID about it, he is the forum electrician...:))
Brand new house shoes, either the warm mocasin or suede boots type are also inexpensive, but practical.
Lena is also getting a bikini from Nordstrom's and a cute little box by Ruccini in the shape (of course) of a gold and green amphibian with just enough room in it for a ring or some other small piece of jewelry. But I'm saving this one for last and only if things work out well.
There is also at least 2 dozen postacards of nice places near my home or elsewhere in Calif. The Thomas Guide road Atlas for California and a photo book of the state.
Her mother is getting Loui Vuitton scarfs. Her brother gets action dvd movies, 'Master and Commander', 'Last Samurai' and 'Alien vs Predator'.
Both ladies get a pound of truffles each from See's Candy.
Lena told me her mother already bought me some vodka to give me a russian 'baptism' on Sunday at dinner, so I scratched my plans to bring any other form of alcohol as a gift.
I hate packing glass containers with smelly staining liquids anywhere near my clothes, anyways.
How could I forget the most popular gift I brought over. An HP 1200 series all in one printer. She liked it and used it and showed it off to all her friends, then on my next two trips I had to bring one each time for her friends! Took up about a third of of my suit case. Good thing I travel light. Each time I worried about going through customs, but even with all the x-ray viewing no one ever wanted to look in my bag. That is why I laugh a little when guys are worrying about how to "hide" those little gifts of jewelry. With all the crap I have brought over, no one has ever cared to check my bags.
Norwegian, well I think that a good warm blanket will be a nice present, sometimes at nights 2 warm blankets are not enough, and this winter here wasn't that bad after all...
I think also a good book or pictures about your town is a good idea...many girls like to read, but a good book here sometimes is a problem to find, this is especially about small cities, I think that could be a good gift as well.
I think that the great idea is to find out about girl's hobbies and then find the gift according to them:)
ahhhhh....books. Lots of books!!
Because when we fall in love with a woman who lives faraway, we don't want them trolling the streets looking for entertainment, right men?..:)))
I'm bringing Lena four books.
She'll probably eat them up before I leave the following week
Two by Susan Faludi "STIFFED: the betrayal of the american man" and "BACKLASH: The undeclared war against american women", also two by Pat Allen "Getting to I DO" and "Staying married and loving it"
I love the idea of that alarm clock picture frame, I am going to get one. I was wondering what to get her. remeber that they are a different region re DVds also diffrent format. I hope they have a DVd player that is multi region, multi format.
Thanks Neon you have made my mind up I am not going to wear the jewelry. I will leave it in the presentation cases and walk through with my head held high. Knowing that I am not wearing womens jewelry or underwear or anything else feminine.

A personal privat place at the Moon, Mars or Venus... Really.. Go to www.moonestates.com and buy her one acre of the Moon, Mars or Venus, you will receive a certificate telling you are a landlord on these planets.. Realestate taken to the outer limits :)) Cool and original!!!!!
Name a star... You can name a star your womans name by entering www.starregistry.com This is also an unusual gift, but I am sure she will remember it for a lifetime.. She will as long as she live have a star named after her... Also here you will get a certificate and a picture of the star.. Great and unusual gift for a date :)))
Another product in the series of unusual gifts for your special one...
This is a really cool gift, it is flowers (roses) that give the phrase "say it with flowers" a totally new meaning.. Using a special embossing technique, they carefully personalize each rose, for every occasion and reason... You can give her roses with her name written on, or even a picture...
This is where to find it..

Bagira, Ptichka, ruslady and other ladies reading...
It would be nice to know what you think about these ideas..
I am especially curious about the "name a star gift..."
After all they are supposed to be for ladies just like you :))
That is actually a good question, do you want him to use the shirt before you receive it?
I suppose the reason you want it is to be able to smell him long after he have left you.
Very good idea actually :)) Now, that is romantic if you do it the right way...
-And can be hot as well, if you have a nice body underneath.. RIP IT OFF :))) LOL
You could take her a portable DVD player. You can get one with a seven inch screen for a reasonable price, but I am not clear on power source problems or DVD playing problems in FSU countries.

Regarding DVDs. I covered this a bit for Toad. It is quite possible to hack DVD players so they will play multiple systems and regions. I've done 3 myself. I buy DVDs from all over the world. It would be a huge mistake to think that Hollywood has a stranglehold on the film industry. Russians love movies from India, France and England and have a thriving industry of their own. I watched tons of stuff and they have some great comedies which seem to center around the Cascous (Caucusus). Did I say that right ladies, sounds like cascus.
Anyway it is region 5 for Russia and the electricity is 240v and about 10 hertz I think. The sockets are the same as German.
The Television format is the SEECAM system from France (or "those bastards" as we lovingly refer to them in England). Marina hadn't barely switched to DVDs and was using a multi system multi format VCR. I watched American movies, Indian movies and Russian movies all in completely different formats and standards. If you want to be safe take VHS tapes in any standard you like. I'd lay money they will work.
