I telephone Lena ealy this morning and asked how the Moscow inteview went and that is what she said. Visa appoved, plane tickets puchased, arrival date is March 11.
Lawyers, lawyers, who needs a damn lawyer.
So gents, you can do this. You can get an American K-1 without a lawyer. Just read the USCIS web page, take your time completing the forms, get all the documents organized and translations notorized. Believe in yourself and your fiance. Don't get caught up in the anxiety and hysteria of all the horror stories. It is like doing your taxes, it can be done if you take yoru time and you are accurate.
Crash, how did your fiance do in her interview? I hope you are a happy couple too.
Thanks Frank that really makes me feel better. I have the application form at work and I will print it ut today. I hope this thread stays put and those of us who do not have attorneys can bounce ideas off one another in this thread. This is a very important subject. I really can't afford a couple of thousand dollars for an attorney. Not to mention that attorneys screwed up my first immigration attempt in the late '80s and charged me a bundle into the bargain. Wherever possible I am a firm believer in that saying 'if you want something done right do it yourself.'
I'm just an old fart who does not want to get retrained and learn to deal with red tape government bureaucracy.
I did a little exercise after I read Roth's documents to figure out how much time and effort I'd have to put into this to do it myself against how much time I'd have to work to payback the cost of recruiting a pro with an UNdefeated record.
There is no way I'm doing this myself.
I can make much much much more money working my regular jobs while the attorney's office does its thing.
I DID use a lawyer, and things worked out fantastic. Sped the process up for me, and my finance (from Moscow) has had her interview, and has been given her visa and is booked on a flight for April 2 to come here.
It was the best $1,000 investment made. Not a penny more... despite horror stories from others. Mine was fantastic.
I'm looking forward to April 2nd... and all the days and nights thereafter. We've been waiting since November for this, and it's finally happening.
I'm breathing heavy right now.
A few minutes ago this adorable angel of a woman tells me via ICQ that her cousin (24) and her husband (56) have invited us to visit for dinner. They have a 5 month old son and he collects world wall plates...(whatever that means)
Message:
She knows clearly how cautious I am because of the age difference between us. She understands it, appreciates it and wants to show me how other people within her family circle make it work...
This seals the deal for me, fellows....I'm leaping!
Wish me luck...I have no insulation suit :))
I might be ugly on the outside but on the inside I am Rock Hudson and Tom Cruise rolled into one. Wait a minute forget the Rock Hudson part, strike that. That guy had 'issues'. Substitute Brad Pitt.
I have to stop coming to this forum. I think I'll go to the airport now and wait for my plane. There are only 7 days to go I'll eat there.
