OK this is important and I only just found this out from my customer service buddy in Houston. He flies like they were #9 buses. Check out seatguru.com. It will take any airline, list the planes they fly, then give a breakdown of the quality of the seats.
So insteda of just taking the seat that is assigned to you make an intelligent choice about that seat based on extensive research by these folks.
green is excellent
yellow is dodgy
red is don't go there
float your cursor over any seat and you will see what I an talking about.
The overwing exits are the best seats, due extra legroom but the airline will not release them, allocate them, until check-in. They'll need to check that you are able bodied, without child and ..... sober.
Something to be said for checking-in on time or early.
Not necesarily so Martin. I always thought the same thing until today. It depends on the airline and the plane layout. They are all different. For example Lufthansa has 3 different layouts for a 747. I just changed my seat on United Airlines a 747. This way I get another 5 or 6 inches of legroom. Much more comfortable.
I tried to change the seats but the ones I want are hel till flight day...I'll just have to spend the night at the airport to make sure I'm first in line for those extra leg room seats..:((
Build a bed out of it or what?
Just do some in-flight Yoga training, the Lotus is a good one to start with. Then the Clover, then the Forget-me-not followed by the Creeper, and eventually you'll turn to dust. Argue what you want, but do you really think you're different? ;-)
A crap seat comes with a sleeping pill, a clumsy ignorant overweight neighbour and and ever erratic backrest-playing bastid in front of you, and invariably the person behind you dreams whilst kicking your chair just when you started to doze off. Take that pill.
Lufhansa won't allow me to do anything with their seating.
Yes they will, they'll allow you to sit in it. Joking aside, when you join Lufthansa's 'miles & more' programme you state your preferred seating when registering. Last time I flew with Austrian Airlines, a Lufthansa Star Alliance member, I found they had automatically allocated me a window seat, taken from my registration information, just quote your number when booking.

Just checked my seats for my trip in May and found out that the "preferred" seating they gave me from NY to Moscow and back were nonreclining! Ugh....no sleep. But with delta.com I was able to change them easily. Any way this is a free flight for me as I am finally able to use my Delta sky miles, and on the flights I wanted, not some roundabout... 7 plane changes.. that they usually try to give me. I just hope Delta is still flying in 2 1/2 months. With my luck...?
