Kyiv is becoming very cosmopolitan from what i can see and they still hold on to tradition which is nice. The t.v. shows are generated to the young western culture now . You know , like MTV with the kids learning hip hop and rap. The younger women i have met are very hungry for anything western culture. But there is the old still and the new.
I can flat out by a new apartment there and collect my pension there but i dont know how i would work out my medical there. I mean can i medical get services rendered on an american health policy??
I can speak for Kyiv - but where I have spend MOST of my FSU time - in Moldova - I doubt you could have gotten an American standard of medical care at any price, or with any medical coverage. Oc ourse, I did no all inclusive survey of medical facilities (wasn't something I intended to do) but the descriptions I heard and the things I saw lead me to this belief.
One thing that does worry me though is my girlfriend oksana who is 37 years old has said to me that a good few of her friends have died at young healthy ages since highschool because of the lack of good medicine and care facilities in her country . She tells me i do not know the darkside of living there . May be some truth to this jet . it does make you think a little.
OK guys this is nuts even more so I have the Girl of my dreams . But I have from what I see very beautiful girls sending me E-Mail like say Im new to this site . Is everything I see here true ?
I think that people are the same the world over jmo. I don't care what country you go to someone will always try to scam the system. I personaly think that there are more good decent women in Eastern Europe particularly Ukraine than there are scamers. Just look at our own Ptichka, there is a young lady that is wise beyond her years. A guy just has to have a little street smarts about him and be aware of his surroundings and not make himself stand out as an American. I am interested in someone in their late thirties to mid to late forties so it seems that I experiance ladies that seem a little more genuine. At least that has been the case in my very limited experiance.
wmferg,
As i said (some not all). It took me some experiences to learn and plenty of plugging away but yes wmferg i do like FSU women very much. It is the cyber part that is my royal pain in the ass. But when you get over there that is water under the bridge. Do you agree?
Jdbenjamin66,
I may be going to SPB in July. I have not made reservations yet. There were 3-4 women on my A-list that turned out to be scammers. They emailed me for 3-4 weeks and I thought for sure they would agree to meet with me. But one by one, they asked for money. They claimed they could get a tourist visa and then they would fly to the USA and be with me, etc. Classic scam stuff. BTW, they were not all from this site. So I need to find more for the A-list, I don't want to spend the time and money unless I have at least 4 dates when I get there. After all, pictures and letters are one thing but who knows until you meet someone in person. If I get some solid meetings setup, then I'll reserve a flight and an apartment. Give me your Email address if you want to keep in touch.
IMHO, watch out for the ones that contact you first!
I agree jmo, I am not fond of this cyber thing myself. But as I do not have the temperment for the social thing this is the alternative. The ideal way would to be able to go over for a month or so and become part of a group and meet someone that way. Unfortunately the slow time for my business is the dead of winter. Not a time that I would prefer to be cavorting around the streets of Kyiv or Odessa. The ideal would to be able to spend the month of September in Ukraine. That seems to be pretty decent weather, not to hot and not to cold.
wmferg ,
I only went to a social once (the time of my life) who said that before ? lol.
It was i thought the best way to get my feet wet and it was . I dont think i will do it again but i just may try one in Odessa with European Connections if i do.
I thought the weather was not too bad there in February. It was like around 25 to 30 degrees . Warmer than Pittsburgh. But if you noticed the people are stiil out and especially the babes. Kreshatyk strret fair still goes on during the weekend . Just dress a little warmer thats all. It still kicks in the winter my friend. Those people know how to live. But you are right , warm weather is nice too. I caught very warm weather in May last year . No coats. But the plane tickets shoot way up to with the rise in temperature. my last trip was only 680 dollars plane ticket. I get groceries for breakfast and lunch at my equipped apt at only 65 dollars a night so it is a very inexpensive trip for me. We hung out alot at murphys irish pub. Also there is a buddy guys blues bar there. great city.
Sorry jmoluv - I had to head out too. Though I am "winged" meaning my arm is in a sling following shoulder surgery - something always seems to come up. Will be glad to answer any questions I can though.
JETMBA,
If you ever get a chance to look into overseas healthcare on an American plan i sure would like to know how it may work . Especially into retirement. No rush, but you do appear to be a very resourceful person on important matters. Or maybe i should just contact my provider and future retirement health care provider and start there for some direction. It would be easy to collect my pension . I just dont know about the health issue. But i will reassure again from my ukrainian lady they dont have the level of medicine that we do. Other than that she travels to Odessa quite a bit and has written to me from there or as i talked to her on her mobile and in the dead of winter she said the temperature was mild as it was several times throughout the winter. After all it is very south. Much more nicer than Kyiv temperature wise. Sounds like the good place to work and or retire. Especially by the sea.
jmoluv,
As I understand how things work in Ukraine if you use the state sponsored system the heathcare is so so. However if you can afford to pay yourself a much higher level of care is available particulary in the larger cities like Kyiv or Odessa. I am looking at the projections for just my social security when I retire and it looks like it will be more than 1K mo. and thats not counting my other accounts. I am thinking that the cost of healthcare should not be a factor. I have checked with my provider and they cover me on advance notice for trips to Ukraine but would cease my coverage if I moved there.
Okay,
But if you use the state sponsored system as a choice (just for an example) would you have to change your citizenship? I know for a fact that in Italy my brothers girlfriends friend moved to Italy and became a citizen in a nick of time by good fate, she needed heart surgery which arised unexpectedly. If she did not become a citizen to receive the state medical program she faced certain death . She was lucky , very lucky . All the expenses were free. What is wrong with the USA on this issue?
I am not sure that you would have to change citizenship or not I haven't delved that deep yet. This is just a recent idea to retire to Ukraine. But I would think that you have to be a citizen or a legal resident (if they have such a status).
