I tried to get flight info from U.S. to Omsk and there is no such animal. I tried severeal sites maybe I'm doing something wrong.I was shooting for last week of july to first week in august Toad you mentioned OMSK in one of your recollections. On a train I believe with a guy wanting a newspaper.Do I have to fly in somewhere else then take a train? The atlas shows an airport and it has a 3 letter designation.Any of you vetrans have any info much appreciated.
Appearantly I didn't read your post good enough.. After reading one more time I discovered you wanted to go in the end of July.. ok.. here is what I found if you leave from Portland the 23. July and returns 2.August.. 166 results.. It is just in the period when most people are having vacation in Europe, so the prices are higher.. I found prices (roundtrip) beginning at $1800. If you go when there is not a vacation season you can go there (roundtrip) for $1000 or less :)
Thanks Nor I will try Kayak Again. I got no hits but diffrent day by one off so I can make that adjustment I think. I was expecting 2200 for the trip so that's good news in itself. Thanks for the help.~~Sandman~~
I did another search and found a flight even closere to me out of Eugene oregon only one flight but saves me 3 hour driving.....God what am I getting myself into this time? :P
Sand,
Unless you're a smoker, I'd strongly recommend you try to arrange all your flights into Russia via Lufthansa.
All other FSU airlines offer smoking flights.
You migh have to fly into Novosibirsk then take the train west to Omsk.
I flew into Ekaterinburg late Saturday night, Lena met me there. We spent the night at a hotel by the train station where she had made reservations. Then we took the 08:00 train to Tyumen that arrived at 12:00 or so. She had also bought all the train tickets we would need in advance....but Wayne, the missionary guy we shared the train compartment with was going to Omsk and he did not get there until 21:00 that night.
I have been looking into it again, and if Sand spend about $200 more on his trip.. $100 each way.. He can go through Frankfurt and fly with Lufthansa. It will cost a little more, but there will be less waiting between flights. Choosing the flight rout that I looked into he will be able to arrive at the airport in Omsk.
Fly into Moscow on whatever airline you want, and then fly from Moscow to Omsk. The flights from Moscow leave about 10:30pm and arrive around 5:30am in Omsk. There are a couple different airlines: Sibir, Aeroflot, Omsk Avia, and maybe one more that I can't remember. Tickets are usually available on one of the airlines at the domestic airport, especially if you want to fly first class.
The flights to Omsk leave out of the domestic airport (can't remember if that is Shermetevo 1 or 2), so if you connect the same day you'll have to get yourself from the internatoinal airport to the domestic aiport.
The Omsk airport is a small place, about 15 minutes from downtown. You should be able to catch a cab into town at the airport.
