All right what is going on? Anybody have any idea?
I paid $1073 for a round trip to Ekaterinburg in March for 2 weeks. Now I am getting way way way over a thousand for the same trip - actually worse - in the summer.
We are talking $1700 on Orbitz the same place I got my first flight.
Plus everything is routing through Moscow. No more flights via Frankfurt. Umpteen plane changes for tons more money.
Did I miss something??
Anybody know a cheap way around this?
Marina is getting me a 1 year business invitation letter which means that I can get my own visas directly that will save some cash but the airfare is brutal.
I'm having the same problem as you D'Izi. My flight to Moldova was $1024 in Feb. I plan on going back in July and suddenly all tickets are $1700 with more layovers. But still have 3 1/2 months to find a cheap ticket. The extra $676 is more than I spent there in an eight day visit. (Not including engagement ring)

I absolutely agree. I spent no more than $400 in 2 weeks tops. We went to a nightclub and ate out and I continually picked up the check at the supermarket. I bought souvenirs and even sported for gas still it was not bad. The money goes a long way. The airfare though is absolutely f***ed up though. What happened? Did the price of aviation fuel go through the roof?
Somehow I'll find the money, if it kills me I must go back.
like most large cities with multiple airports there are various shuttle companies running vans between them....search for airport shuttles and talk to them on the phone. They should know exactly how long it takes at whatever time you'll be there, etc etc.
I found a forum which talked about getting from one airport to the other in NY. Unfortunately the concensus of opinion was that it is impossible find another route. That is depressing. Anybody have any solutions?
Actually a helicopter is the only way to do this. Be cheaper to just get another flight though. I have $1300 to play with. My annual bonus. Worth every penny.
There are airport shuttle buses that make roundtrips between JFK, LaGuardia and Newark. They run constantly. They leave about every half hour and arrive one hour later. $13 one-way. Try http://www.nyairportservice.com/jfk_lga_jfk.html

Yep I found that today. It is excellent but you still need to allow quite a bit of time for Mr Cockup to come calling. Just one accident that is all it takes and it could take hours to go a few miles. I have come up with either flying from Miami again - goes in and out of JFK or a slightly longer time (5 hours) between flights. I am hanging back on booking though until I talk to my boss. He may have other plans for me.
I really would like to book this and put it all to bed and I know Marina feels the same way. Just get it over with, lay out the cash and start waiting again.
Like Jmoluv told me, it is addictive. You just want to organize your next trip and get on with it. He is right.
guys, check out a place online called ciderella travel or the russia house. It only makes sense that tiks will cost more during the summer. who wants to visit FSU in the ded of winter. You might be able to get tik dirt cheap in jan.
I found the same issue when I was planning a trip there in June. For all air travel it was $1800! I was unable to go due to flexibility at work and am traveling now in September. Now the rates are like $800-1000 and even hotels are cheaper. Off season starts Sept. 1st for most establishments.
Iz...on eufares.com I found a flight there for march at $660 that is if there is any availablity probably be about 900 dollars til you find one available.
Yeah I got a fare to Odessa for $678 - then they hit me up for another $227 in taxes and another few bucks for delivery. Ended up $927. AND I still had to find my way up to JFK. It sounds good when you first look at it :))
My trip to Odessa is costing $1142. I am not complaining. Actually I only had to fork out for the Aerosvit flight. I have a credtit with Delta from my aborted flight to see Marina last July.
Just hope this isn't going to be fruitless.
BTW everyone Jetson asked Lena to marry him. I get to watch this process up very close. I shall watch the K1 go in and Jay and I feel very lucky because our future wives will have a FSU friend right here with them nice and close. That has got to help. Also my Ukrainian friend Sergey offered his help.
Well just booked the flight for September to Kiev through Air France for $1300. It was about $1100 with fees & taxes just a few days ago. Delta jumped their prices up $300 in just a few days as well. So I suggest to anybody going in September or October, book now!!!
What is going to cost a lot of the lodging. The Sherborne charges about $135 a night plus a 20% VAT tax unless you pay with cash. Does anybody have experience with this??? I know you can bring in $1000 cash. I was hoping to bring that for spending money but I'd rather avoid the 20% tax for 14 days stay! What about traveler's checks or traveler's check card and using the ATM there???
