Look I think its time we had a topic about software commonly used by scammers to initiate contact with us Western guys, namely such things as the Bat! x-mailer and Dr.Web anti-virus.
I have seen The Bat! e-mailer or x-mailer software in use frequently by scammers.
Apparently very popular in the FSU as it is easy to use and configure and has very versatile mass e-mailing and spam mailing abilities.
Another one is Dr.Web anti-virus software seen in scan entries of some of my scammer e-mail.
The Bat! can be considered as a trademark or hall mark sign of a scammer in most cases and all we neede to do is check the e-mail properties or headers to determine what type of e-mailer she uses..in Outlook Express, right click the e-mail and click properties and it will bring up the e-mail header with origin IP address and location along with type of software eg x-mailer=The Bat!
Anyone in this forum care to make a comment about the Bat x-mailer and easy prelim detection of a scammer using e-mail properties and headers.
aussie:
bit of a generalisation to brand every user of the Bat e-mailer as a scammer!!
I have had frequent correspondence with ladies using that system, who I KNOW to be honest. The Bat system is as common in the FSU as Outlook Express is here.
As you said "Apparently very popular in the FSU as it is easy to use and configure..." Yes it is very popular, and my girl uses it too. I have visited her several times and I can tell you she is no scammer.
Of course many scammers probably use this software too, but that does not mean anyone using it is a scammer.
I use The Bat at home to manage all my correspondence...a very good thing, with very good features...reminding me to write birthday letters to friends, reminding about urgent letters and so on and so forth! A very good thing:)
You can use certain features or not..it depends on your needs.
I have asked about a similiar? system before, because if I go without writing to a particular individual for weeks, and then write,I get a response almost immediately. This automated reply is bogus and insincere. If it were not, then a "friend" would regularly inquire as to my well being,as some do,and I would not have to initiate correspondence to be given a reply. I am not 100% certain that I am referring to the "x-mailer",but it would be an excellent way to perform a "pyramid" business. I have thus far experimented with my writings to find out if I am for her a "real" person,or just the receiver of an automated reply. I suspect this is the case, because after my absence and when I again write, comes an identical canned reply,ie., "I am sorry I have not written,I have been sick." If I am correct ( I am not jaded or a needy man for women`s company,by the way ) then the person with this program does not actually have to respond individually. This is,in my mind, like writing to your congressman, and being given a computerized reply with the congressman`s lookalike signature which says in essence,"thank you for your interest, your ideas and comments have been duly noted." I may be on the wrong track here, and am only curious, not looking to right some wrongdoing. But if I am right, this is an insidious fraud, because it denies me as a person, and regards me as just another letter in the stack.
And don't deny it, you live in Lugansk Ptich', scammers paradise according to some. So Guys, thanks for all the above info, now I finally know THIS is the reason why Birdie refuses to send me any money ;-)
Dam, and I actually thought my fabricated excuses we good enough. I mean, I bet nobody has ever heard about my parrot, a Norwegian Grey, who's needing specially imported live feed (krill) to survive, in combination with a high-in-energy-cost airconditioner to keep him cold enough to pine for the fjords? :))
Down Under, you just might be surprised how much licenced but cracked, absolutely fully functional software is availalble in the FSU. Basically anything you like plus that stuff you've never heard of. I'd go as far as saying that very little 'real' SW is sold there.
But not only that, you quite likely will be even more surprised where you'll buy it, and think underground now - the subways.
N()R, easy mate - if you owe to plenty you need to get yourself organized. I use it too of course, it makes the ducking and diving lots easier ;-)
I do no think the term "X-Mailer" means mass mailers. I looked at the properties of my own e-mails that I have sent out and it shows "x-mailer=microsoft outlook express". I can assure you that I do not send out any mass mailings. I personaly know people in Ukraine that use BAT as their mail manager. This is not to say there could not be additional software behind it to generate reply's, but the use of bat software itself I personaly think is not a vaild test for a scammer.
No, it does not. It is simply a mail header many mail clients use to designate the client used to create or respond to a mail message. Per RFC 2076, which comments on the common mail headers and formats (of which this particular one is actually not a header defined in any specific standard).
Thunderdome, I won't deny this! Above this...I'm the boss in this scammer's paradise!!!:)))
The Bat is a very easy to use programm, and there is no need to learn for days to use it, everything is very clear and very nice:) I remember I learned how to use it, just in a couple of hours:) OK my correspondence doesn't include thousands of letters, but it is big enough. And The Bat helps me to cope with all of it, very easily:)
Yes, lots of good programms are cracked. Once I bought a CD with lots of the stuff I needed: Russian-Ukrainian translators, vocabularies, and much more, only for 2 $. I was writing my 1 diploma then, and it had to be written in Ukrainian, while all the information I had was in Russian. So I needed a good programm to cope with the translation and I got even more then that:) That CD is a #1 in my collection still:)
"The Bat" is simply popular in Eastern and Central Europe because it caters for all Eastern and Central European languages. Also because it is fast and has a small memory footprint - much more efficient coding than Outlook Express. This is probably the most important factor - People over there do not always have the latest computers. Developed by http://www.ritlabs.com/ and it's probably the best known export product of Moldova....
It has more advanced protection against viruses and worms than Outlook Express and a couple of nice features. An English version is of course also available.
In the West a scammer would most likely use Outlook Express ....it does not make me a scammer if I use it. I have many friends and contacts in Central and Eastern Europe and most use "The Bat" - even the Hungarians and Czechs like it.
You can download a trial copy - works for 30 days.
Olegnay, apologies for advertising again, but I had to lay a few suspicions to rest...
That's absolutely true. Show me a self-respecting programmer in Russia who would use Outlook... You know, as here most software is actually free, we used to try different things and choose the best.
From this experience most serious people just can't stand many Microsoft programs. And with serious people it is evene more vivid.
The Bat is much better than Outlook. And they are both x-mailers!:-) This is it.
The original package of The BAt does not support sending massive e-mails however it is easy to download a plug-in for this(As easy as for Outlook). But what fore to do this when there are a lot of special programs for spam letters?:-)
Well... Opera and the Bat rules, IE and Outlook sucks!:-)
felicidate is mentioning Opera as one of the best...
guys... Norwegian product.. Do I have to say more???
But actually, it is much more reliable than the Microsoft browser, and it has won a lot of prizes also.. But, most PC's delivered today comes with Microsoft.. unfortunately..
NOR. When I just started using Opera I just couldn't switch to IE. It seems so bulcky and slow in comparisson. I didn't know that it is a Norwegian product.
It is really very good.
The best feature is the way it switches between windows. And it shows real connection speed for each window.
Bad features are that it crashes sometimes and it has little compatibility with Microsoft office: it is not possible to copy a table on a web page and insert it correctly into a WORD document, it comes to a mess. But this is so little in comparisson with all the advantages.
