I watched this forum for a long time before posting this message. I have quite a problem in my hands right now.I met on a chat room with Sasha. She is a nice looking girl from Ukraine and I started a long series of emails with her. Now I would really like to hear her voice but the issue is that I live in the US and AT&T is billing me way too high for the calls.
So I was wondering if any of you is aware of a more affordable way that I can use to call her since I really want to hear her.
Do a Google search. I just typed "International phone rates" My first call to Moldova cost me $280 (2 1/2 hr.)with AT&T. I now use a calling card that is only .09 a minute. MUCH Cheaper.
I use Verizon international calling plan for my home phone and it cost me I think $0.26 per minute to a home phone and $0.28 to a cell. This is to Ukraine only.
Do a search for prepaid long distance....many good cards available on line. One to look at is www.speedypin.com. Many different cards to choose from. Just compare and look for the best deal for you. I am using a pinless rechargeable card to call Russia and it is aroung 6cents/min
I talk with my "contacts" using a program on the computer called SKYPE :)
It works just fine, and you don't have to pay at all, just the normal internet cost you have when surfing. The software is free to download.
You can also use it for normal calls to cellphones or housephones, but then you have to pay a little extra for it.
If your girl has a computer at home, you only need a Microphone and a speaker (headset with a microphone work best), and you can talk for free every day, as long as you wish.
Works just fine :)))
Calling cheap internationally is best done with calling cards. You can find them at your local store or even online. Just make sure you pick a good one, as there are several that will just eat up your minutes and you'll be left with like 15 minutes of conversation out of a $10 card. I call my family in Cordoba with calling cards from www.callingcardshome.com and I am getting a very good service so far - I have been using them for the past 3 months or so. I'd recommend the 1 Second card, for me it's the best deal. Good luck!
Skype only works fine if you've got a quick-enough connection (i.e bandwidth). And that is its Achilles heel, and only sometimes it works fine. There's more of these (free!) programs, but I think Skype is most used.
Calling Cards work fine, but I've experienced that those really cheap one's are hardly usable because their use results in a very bad connection, probably something to do with them using only the remaining capacity of a certain connection - ergo no conversation possible.
Better pay a bit more and be able to converse, and we're talking mere cents now.
