i am new to the forum an my girlfriend is living in dnepropetrovsk..does anyone know anything about the city
I am probably going there in july and all she can keep telling me is how dangerous it is..especially at night and if you are a american in the neighborhoods she lives in
I grew up in manhattan and not too much bothers me i was curious if she is just overreacting
Be careful mate if she says it is dodgy it probably is and although New York is no picnic this seems different somehow. Ekaterinburg was not threatening, I stuck to Marina like glue until the police intervened. I did walk around on my own but always in well populated areas and in daylight.
I saw some bouncers that were only slightly smaller than Toad and he is big. And welcome by the way. And don't take too much notice of me.
Izi, I was almost surprised at how comfortable I felt in Ekaterinburg and Kurgan, and I am rather paranoid anyway. Did you have any uncomfortable experiences?
No not really. I saw some idiots in a car situation and Marina decided she was not going to move. I thought here we go I'm going to get a spanking now but they were too busy arguing among themselves. Stupid, obstinate idiots. Another guy started kicking the car in the middle of the street one day. Him I wanted to spank. It would have given me great pleasure to knock his stupid cossack hat off. Marina got all fussy and I didn't.
I did not feel in danger at any time. Mexico was more threatening so was Morocco.

In past travels I have visited Dnipropetrovsk a few times and NEVER found any danger there.Like all big cities common sense is required, but unless your lady takes you to known dodgy areas (which is highly unlikely),then you will be fine.Dnipro is a very interesting place to go,bit industrial in parts ,but with lots of culture and a lot to see.
Hey guys, when your woman says it is dangerous believe her! I've seen some pretty tough looking guys over there. I don't scare easy, I'm 6"4", 250, athletic, and a policeman. Sometimes discretion is the better part of valor.
When I was there in 91 I was assigned a bodyguard. But things have changed a lot now.
i visited Kiev Lugansk Mariupol Sevastopol.
i saw a reasonable amount of drama's, mostly in the day.
amongst all this there was only one blood nose.
if most of these dramas where in New Zealand a lot of people would have been visiting a hospital.
i thought overall much safer then my home, people not so violent in general, people were a lot smaller then average New Zealander.
there door men at clubs were a bit bulldozerish, it felt like home, dense mothers.
very embarrassing for me when they are suppose to be the third world country.
the police do like there battens.
all the city centre areas are reasonably safe night or day.
I was in Dnepropetrosvk in July 2005. Did not have any problems. I even walked around by myself.
I stayed near Karl Marx Blvd, which is one of the main streets there. I found it a friendly city. Somewhat drab in places though. Go to the beaches by the river. Many beautiful women there.
Like any city, don't flash your cash around and be careful who is behind you when pulling money out of an ATM.
I walked around Kiev a lot by myself and I felt comfortable and safe there. I felt safer there than walking around Toronto (about 3 million people in Canada) Toronto is getting to be rough and violent anymore with gang shootings and the like. I saw a fist fight one day when I was in Kiev between 2 guys but that's nothing compared to people shooting each other.
As long as you use caution and common sense like in any large city Ukraine cities should be fine for you even if you are alone.
