I was convicted in 1999 of "mis use of credit card". Without getting into the details, Does the Russian Consulate in San Francisco do any type of record check? I have gotten differant opinions and still dont know if I should answer "no" on the arrest question.. Most say to just answer no, as they have no way to check. Does anyone know the true answer? I arrive in SF to get the tourist visa on June 7. Please post your replies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
are you processing the visa yourself or did you hire some agency to do it for you?
I do not have a felony conviction but I omitted some personal questions in the app. and it went w/o a hitch.
I don't think the Russian end is your problem. It is going to be the American authorities. there is a background check on all immigration matters. Fingerprints, the works. It is quite possible that a convicted felon is not allowed to bring in a lady from abroad. I wouldn't bet on it though.
If ever anybody needed the advice of a good attorney it is you. I would suggest spending some bucks and getting proper legal advice and not questioning here. We are just other nuts looking abroad for a wife, we are not experts on such a delicate question. I truly, truly wish you good luck my friend. You have paid the price and you should not have to suffer for the rest of your life the whole thing stinks of "Les Miserables".
