I'm new to this forum and I got a question. How much do you pay customs for perfume and jewelry? I meet a wonderful woman from Ukraine. We have been corresponding for 3 1/2 months now. We have even spoken over the phone several times. Now I have a trip lined up for June 23rd. I bought her a necklace for her birthday for $300. I also bought her a $30 bottle of perfume. If everything goes well I plan on giving it to her. Unfortunatly I bought them before I discovered Fiance.com and this forum or I would have asked this question before I bought the stuff.
I read in here that some of you will wear the jewelry. Unfortunatly this is my first trip and I am not that brave. So how much is it going to cost me?
Thanks
why do you spend so much money from the early beginning to a woman you never have seen?
what will happen, if you and her donīt have common feelings while being together?
IMHO such a present is much too much and could give her the impression that you wanna show to her how much more you can give her in future too.
the perfume is OK...you should not show up empty handed.
Save the necklace for the last couple of days, providing ypu think she deserves it.
Good luck...
Don't worry about the customs charges. For that amount of money, they really couldn't care less. You're not going to start a department store with that inventory. That's what they're guarding against. Put it in your suitcase and keep walking.
Okay, thanks. I will wait to see what happens to give here the necklace. Like I said before I am a newbie at this. I don't want to make any mistakes that is why I am asking the experts.
Ditto: Dpendong on what the jewelry is - how expensive it looks - and whether or not he had receipts it could matter a GREAT DEAL!
On one trip I was haevily questioned about a neclace I had - it was in a box. It was only sterling silver and I DID leave the price tag on - but when at first they though it was something more expensive - YOU BET they made an issue.
On another occassion I had some costume jewelry (not even silver) as I was advised to bring along. Again a big issue until I showed the receipt.
A buddy of mine had to pay $100 on a fairly modest diamond ring in Ukraine.
As most of you readers probably know - I took a diamond heart necklace to my fiance last time - and wore it.
FSU countries aren't like here. They make a big deal about a lot of things like that.
Wear the dam thing, have the receipt AND some cash just in case when things turn sour.
LOTS more fun this way, and why do you care for some officials anyway CS? Enjou your trip, good luck if you need it :)
