could someone help me ... I am not sure i understand the new ukranian visa requirements.
As stated it says that there is non visa entrance for us citizens whose previous visit to the ukraine was less than 6 months ago .
Does that mean if its your first visit to the ukranine you still need a visa . or in my case i had a visa i never used that expired in 6/05 ....do i still need a new visa?
So let me get this straight.aaakerpoeia....if you never been to Ukraine, never had a visa for Ukraine, all you need is a passport as if you were going to Europe??? and if true is that permenant??
If so, when I get back from the deployment Im taking me a little trip :-)
Izi, are you sure about this? I read the new visa requirements and as I understand it, if you haven't been within six months, you need a visa. I called Go To Russia, who has handled all of my FSU visas in the past, and they said I still needed a visa.
Just contacted a independent travel document company by phone .....www.traveldocs.com/ua/vr.htm
they confirmed as izi as said that you can travel to the ukraine on a passport alone , even if you never have been there, for a total stay not to exceed 90 days in a 6 month period even if not a continuous stay. try to call the ukranian embassy is useless and emailing them is even worse....so i guess the only visa you need is the one that goes into the atm:))
If you are planning to stay in Ukraine less than 90 days the visa is no longer required for US citizens (see attachment).
Thank you for your interest.

Subject: question:Ukranian visa for American citizen
I just got back from Ukraine on Friday having entered without a visa and having not been there in the last 6 months. Even Customs was easier.
Brought back my fiancee' and her son. Our immigration was the problem. I was allowed to sit in the room with her while they processed the visa. I got up to go to the bathroom and one of the officers tried to intimidate me into sitting down and waiting until I was called. I gave him just enough rope to hang himself before revealing my US citizenship. I told him to back off before I called my lawyer. I heard a very different tune then.
As with Toad, I will be beating a hasty retreat into forum retirement. I wish you all well.
Yes, this is great! I was going to apply for my visa this month but now I guess I don't have to worry about that. I have been looking for forums on travel to CIS countries; I have been a member of fiance.com for more than a year now and am planning on traveling to Ukraine in September. I hope to be able to learn from those who have already made their trip(s)!
Attention: Starting July 1, 2005 Ukraine sets Visa Free Regime for U.S. citizens
Since July 1, 2005 visa free regime has been introduced in Ukraine for citizens of the United States of America, that provides visa-free entry to Ukraine and transit through its territory for U.S. citizens planning to stay in Ukraine up to 90 days within six month period.
This regulation is not extended to the immigrant visas, student visas with the purpose to study in Ukraine and for those U.S. citizens, who enter Ukraine with the purpose to work at the U.S. diplomatic/consular missions in Ukraine and to the cases if the U.S. citizens stay in Ukraine more than 90 days within the period of six months.
The decision of the President will become an efficient step in the realization of principles of strategic partnership between Ukraine and the USA; it will promote the popularization of Ukraine as a state adhering to the principle of free movement of people, goods, services and capitals.
Visa-free regime for U.S. citizens is the practical realization of one of priorities of the Ukrainian State in the context of strengthening ties of the Ukrainian Diaspora in the United States with their historical Motherland; it will also create favorable conditions of entry to our state for representatives of American business circles, and tourism development.
President's Decree No. 1008/2005
On Introduction of Visa Free Regime for U.S. Citizens
With the aim to develop and realize into practice principles of the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the United States of America and guided by the aspirations to simplify the regime for mutual travels and to foster bilateral contacts in all fields of relationships, I issue a decree:
1. To introduce on July 1, 2005 visa free regime for the US citizens for entering Ukraine and for transit through the territory of Ukraine, if they visit Ukraine for the second time within 6 months from the date of their first visit to Ukraine for the period which doesn't exceed 90 days.
2. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine should set the compensation mechanism for the State Budget of Ukraine and introduce other measures, deriving from this Decree.
The President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko
June 30, 2005
