Hello Everybody...after reading some of the threads on this forum I figured this is probably the best source of information for travel to Ukraine.
I am planning on a trip to Ukraine in September. Either Kiev or Odessa. I have been writing and talking on the phone with a girl for more than a year now.
Does anybody have any ideas for where I can find the cheapest airfare and hotel stay? I have found a little bit of information on the net but in general it seems as though Ukraine is behind the times on the internet marketing approach. And a few people have actually suggested renting an apartment or going along with a tour company? Any suggestions. I am going to see one girl but a few people have suggested that it might be wise to go with a tour group in case things don't work out...if the chemistry isn't there. ???
I would appreciate any advice or resources that someone might know of.
As for Kiev I reccomend the Sherbourne apartments, very nice good service. You can find cheaper but it's a pretty good bang for the money.
Now if I was going to Travel to Ukraine in September, which I probably will again. I would go to Yalta. A little more expensive but an incredible place to stay with your lady. Plus after talking to the locals in Yalta it is the best time to go. Kichkine hotel in Yalta is incredible 200 bucks a day but that includes 2 meals incredible view of the Black sea and excellent service. Just Plug in Yalta Hotels in search engine and many pop up.
Thanks for the info nas...I'll have to check out the Sherbourne apartments and see about Yalta too. I haven't researched much about Yalta...I'll have to ask my girl about it. She is thinking Odessa or Kiev, and prefers Kiev. She lives in Mariupol so I guess Yalta would be closer than Kiev. I'll definately check out Kichkine hotel.
What are some of the main attractions in Yalta? Besides the women of course!!
Rhino....Coach.... I been writing to a girl in mariupol too. What's yer girl's name ? I hope we aint writing to the same gal cause i wanna see mine in sept too!
Wouldn't it be a riot if all 3 of us were after the same byrd !!!! The girl i'm writing to is named Anna (all the girls i write to are named anna)... weird huh
Well Rhino Welcome to the Mariupol club. That is where my lady resides also. Don't worry about writing some other guys lady, ton's of girls in Mariupol. And If you would like to know about a great Restaurant in Mariupol I have one for you also. The food is Tremendous and very inexpensive. You will find the girls would rather meet in another city besides Mariupol. It is a pretty dismal town to our standards. I rather enjoy Mariupol since Larissa is comfortable with me coming there. She asked me what I thought about her home and town, I said sweetheart I have slept in worse places than this in my travels, so don't worry about a thing. She thought I would be shocked by the conditions coming from America. So any info on Mariupol you guys want or need is fine. A flight from Donetsk to Simferopol is about 60 dollars and about a 40 dollar cab ride to Yalta. Your ladies will love it, especially in september. I'm going to go back in October to bring her home. Maybe I might go to Yalta for a few days.
Well you guys are safe...my girl's name is Maya...and I think we'll end up meeting in Kiev. She would really like to go there. And apparently there are flights from Mariupol to Kiev through this company Zhuliany? Has anybody ever heard of this company?
I'll be there for two weeks so there is a good chance I might take a side trip to Mariupol to see her hometown and meet the parents. I figure if I go for two weeks I should be able to maybe hit a few cities.
Yes, Nas, I would like to know more about this restaurant. What is the food like there??? And any information about Mariupol, would be awesome!!!
I just checked out the Sherbourne apartments on the net...wow!!! Thanks for info nas, you just saved me a ton of money...very nice looking rooms! I think I'll book a room here soon...
There are a ton of gorgeous women in Mariupol! There must be something the water!!!!
Zhuliany is an Airport in Kiev. She can fly from Mariupol but there is only one flight a day from Mariupol to Kiev and it's an early morning flight. There are many flights from Donetsk to Kiev and vice versa. Usually it is Donbass Airlines that flies from Mariupol to Kiev.
Not only are rooms extremely nice, but the service at the Sherbourne is excellent, they will meet your lady at the airport and bring her back to the hotel and then they will take her to meet you at Borispol International. Anna and Vlada are excellent at the sherbourne and will help you with tickets and etc. that you need for your stay.
The Restaurant's Name translated in English is "Our Meeting Place"
Excellent food and the prices just amazed me. To this day I have yet to have a bad meal in Ukraine. When you stay in Kiev go to the Czars Villiage Restaurant, it is not far from the Sherbourne, the food is excellent. Also the Acropolis Restaurant in Mariupol is excellent to eat at. Going to the theatre is inexpensive also in Mariupol, so you will have a great time on a little money in Mariupol. Kiev on the other hand can be a little expensive, it's got a western flavor to it. The flight from Mariupol to Kiev will cost about 75 bucks.
Also there is a lady I can get you her name and Phone number in Kiev that gives tours of the city. I have her email somewhere also that you can contact her.
Ryan feel free to contact me by email if you have any questions about Mariupol. I have an excellent taxi driver named Sasha that will get you around Mariupol, or if your lady needs a ride to Donetsk to catch a plane or to Mariupols airport.
Rhino,
The Sherbourne will also get you roses waiting for your date for about two thirds less the price than our site here. I have been to Kyiv four times and i will argue with Mike that the place is way out in peanut heaven away from where the action is. Good service but to far from the main drag .My former native Kyiv woman said that too. You can get an apartment just as nice without all the service for the same price or a little less without the hassle of getting a cab or using the metro and be in the center of the cultural district . All within in a stone`s throw. But being both of you have never been there it might be better to go with the sherbourne so you dont have to figure out the transfers to and from . Rhino , is your lady friend`s name Maya Strukova?
Thanks for the info guys! I don't really have an itinerary yet but I guess that the point. We'll probably end up staying at the Sherborne and then figuring out what we both want to do. Nas, I'd greatly appreciate that lady's name & email that does tours in Kiev.
So what do you guys think of Kiev? Are there any specific things that you guys would suggest to do in Kiev?
jmoluv, no her name isn't Strukova...unless she has an alias I don't know about ;)
I wasn't really excited or impressed with Kiev, but I lived in Chicago for a few years so big cities don't excite me too much. Now Yalta is a different story. If my Russian was better I would move there and drive a taxi!
Rhino you must understand JMO a 15 minute ride in the tube to get to the Main drag is an adventure to him! And this is a guy who rides vintage military motorcycles. Yeah the Sherbourne is a bit out but nothing drastic. But you are not far from the WWII Museum and St. Sophia's Cathederal which I suggest to visit both, pretty interesting, when I heard the story of why the WWII Museum was where it was I got the chills and as Larissa would say I had goose skin!
I'm still checking out different places to stay. I think the Sherbourne apartments are really nice. Where would you stay to be in the center of Kiev (or the cultural district)? Any specific streets where you guys stayed that you would recommend. I'll be staying for two weeks so I think an apartment will be best.
Also, interpreter services...my girl states that she would like to use her interpreter that works with the agency. She charges $100 per day and my girl would like to have an interpreter at least 4 or 5 days. My Russian is as good as ordering food or asking directions so I think this is a must. What have you guys used in the past?
If you're paying $100 per day, you're being ripped off. Even the folks in business for us tourists don't charge that much, unless you're talking about a 15-hour day. You should be able to find someone for $50 for an 8-hour day.
I have someone in Kiev that is an excellent interpreter, but she has a fulltime job and would only be available on weekends. She is also a wonderful tour guide. Let me know, if you want the contact info.
