Some of the women clearly have managed to built themselves a reasonable living standard.
Some of them have habits I cannot afford. But, I guess they would not be asking for money while we get to know each other.
It could be a problem, though, if they give up their job and come here. -And I can't work in their country!
One example:
"....
Hobbies: classical music, theater, fine arts, reading, cooking, computers and internet, fashion, health and fitness
...."
-particularly the fashion bit scares me!
Geri, calm down.:-)
I don't remember the exact English idiom but as I remember it is "show off". So this girlie wrote this to show off! To show that she is cuter than she is in reality. Those Moscow ladies who are really have fashion as their hobby will never seek a husband somewhere else but the Moscow city. It is tru that their "spouses" just can't be compared to you guys, they are the elite here and only an insane girl will look for a better variant.
Several our girls wrote fashion as their hobby. This means that they like to read magazines on fashion and sew pretty clother themselves. So be ready that you will just have to invest a couple hundreds in a sewing machine rather than taking her to every High fashion Week in Milano, paris and so on.
Interesting, you did hit it on the head about fashion. Larissa makes many of her own clothes because the affordability is not within her income range. It is a hobby for her, but also a way she can afford the styles of Paris and Milan without the expense. She is actually quite good as a seamstress. So when I told her she could have my Grandmothers sewing machine she thought that was wonderful. It was kept for senitmental reasons, now it will have some use again.
Geri, many of the things you have defined are not that expensive. If you have been to their theatres, it is not Broadway productions, it is of local groups in their cities. Also it is not like they go every night. Classical music is the same, the arts are much less expensive in the FSU than here in the states, but you can still hear classical music live that is not more expensive than going to the cinema in the states.
Where I live, not far in Louisville is the Speed Art Museum, 20 bucks and you and your lady is in. They have traveling art exhibitions, The had some Dali paintings there a few months back. These girls are not looking to be wined and dined in the back of Limo's but they do enjoy these things.
Nas has a point there; A season pass to the 5th Ave. Theater in Seattle is only 300$ a year for some pretty nice seats and 6 great shows. Symphony cost a lot less than that. Just have a couple glasses of wine, put on a nice suit and kick back and take in the music. It's not a Stone's concert but it's still a good time.
I think Keith Richards will out live us all. Though a friend told me he was dead but Keith just hasn't figured it out yet or has sobered up enough to understand he's dead.
Shark you live in Seattle, isn't the Sea Fair going on now, or did it just end? I had some good times at the Sea Fair and the Rose Festival in Portland and I can still taste Ivar's seafood!
If you like Tartar sauce with your Fish Ivar's is the best I have ever tasted anywhere I've been.
It is impossible to generalize about all women on fiance.com, but among the (50 or so) women that I have met in FSU, nearly all say that they are interested in fashion. However, this means that they like to do their nails and makeup before they go out, and that they try to look nice and put together when they are out in public. They are not like American women who are happy to go out in sweatpants and a sweatshirt with their hair pulled back.
Most of the women that I met had a very small wardrobe. They often wore the same outfits that I recognized from their website photos. If we spent more than a couple of days together, usually they would start to recycle their outfits.
In St. Petersburg and Moscow, there are very high-end fashion stores, like Armani, Versace, Boss, etc... but I can't imagine that the average working woman could begin to afford anything from those stores. The prices are even more expensive than in the U.S. (yes, I couldn't resist going shopping). The Russian people that I saw in those stores were clearly very wealthy "New Russians", and I would imagine that those ladies aren't looking for a foreign husband.
I was out at Seafair all day today... the drunken rednecks, the searing heat and getting high off of the boat fumes...good times! Today was the last day.
Yeah, Ivars has some tasty fish, halibut is awesome there.
Let's just hope Keith and the boys have room on the tour bus for a few cases of Depends and some Metamucil.
Seafair--bad place to get drunk when unaccompanied. I am originally from that area, and Seafair gets 500,000 people in downtown. There are kid gangs there, and I watched as about 8 of them very tenderly subdued a swaggering drunk, silently took him to the ground, relieved him of his wallet, then vanished into the crowd--all within about 10 or 15 seconds. That jet fuel at the hydro races mixed with the noise gave me a headache. When I was a kid we used to sit on the log boom, but it is crazy with people now. Still love Lake Washington,Elliot Bay and Alki Beach
geriatrix, don't be scared about fashion:) Usually it means watching magazines to see what are the newest ideas in fashion, so to change something in the clothes women have. For example, making a skirt shorter or longer, or sewing some new belt, or knitting a new sweater or something like that...or just to be informed about the new tendencies.
What scared me personally yesterday, I was communicating with a friend of mine who lives in the USA for 2 years, and yesterday when we communicated she was only boasting, what films she saw, where they went and will go, and so and so forth. When I asked her about her son, she told me what a good mother she is as she takes her son to different sections, but not a single word about her son....when I asked her about her husband, she didn't tell me anything at all, and even didn't pay any attention to my messages. We were communicating through ICQ...I found that to be so strange and scaring that a person could change so much only during 2 years....
