I have spent the last hour or so sifting through the forum and don't think I got lucky enough to find what I needed. I just got back from another trip from Moldova where I have met the girl of my dreams nearly a year ago now, and she is equally in love with me. She has a lot of friends, family, and a good paying job so she has never been totally crazy about going to the US, that be said we want to get married. I have read a few horror stories that it takes 9 months to marry and get her to the US. Is this true? How do I begin the process, what are the steps, the forms, the people we talk to, the advice etc.? Is their a faster way to get this done? Who do I bribe? I have read enough online to know that apparently lawyers are a massive waste of time.
I could really use your help, or at the very least point me to the links and/or forum topics which actually address this in detail.
A lot of people will have input on this, but here are the basics:
You can get a K-1 visa which will let your lady come to the U.S. for 90 days as your fiance. You must get married within 90 days or she will have to return to Moldava. After the marriage there are various stages of citizenship that she will go through each with its own forms and paperwork. Or, you can get married in her country, and then apply for a K-3 visa. This is a spouse visa, and allows your lady to come here as your wife. Generally, this takes longer to get than the K-1 visa, although times vary a lot. Depending on where you live in the country and which visa processing center you use the times will vary. There are current times posted on some government website somewhere. Do a google search and you'll find it.
Most guys that have been through this would suggest the K-1. It is faster (4-8 months) and gives you an out if something goes wrong once she gets here. A good link for all of this stuff is http://uscis.gov/graphics/hodoi/fiance.htm , and a good site is http://www.visajourney.com/ . In addition, some of the larger RW forums have a visa subforum which can be helpful.
I am using a lawyer and am very satisfied. In fact, another forum member here recommended this firm. He claims a 100% approval rate and I have no reason to think that my K-1 petition won't be approved. However, others will say that anything a lawyer does you can do on your own, if you just fill out the paperwork carefully. I'm not that type of guy, so the $1500 that I'm paying the lawyer is worth it to me.
The only possibility for a faster way to do this is the Direct Consular Filing (DCF). I don't know if this is possible in Moldava, although I don't recall seeing Moldava listed as one of the countries that allows this (Ukraine does allow it). A DCF will cut a few months off your visa waiting time. You should be able to find a list of DCF countries on some state department webpage. Other than that, I don't know of anybody to bribe or any shortcuts. I have seen stories of people that attempted shortcuts (student visa, work visa, etc...) and got caught by the INS and were then permanently denied entry to the country.
You can order a starter kit from them for 50 bucks which I did. It out lines everything that you need to get started. The site is free and they seem to have lawyers that will do the paperwork for you for about 450 dollars.
You must understand that you and your girlfriend can jump through the correct hoops but that she can be rejected at the end. That would be the worst case for you but it is not impossible.
I have decided to make limited reappearances. Like trav02 and a few others, perhaps my permanent retirement is not quite as permanent as the promise suggested.
While I will be considerably less all-telling this time - I would like to offer some advice. And having been refered to by Annika as the one who should respond to someone seeking to bring over a Moldovan princess - how could I stay in the shadows? (In other words - my reurn is all HER FAULT (just kidding of course))>
Moldova has no Direct Consular Filing in fact Moldova allows no k-1 visa filing AT ALL at the US Embassy in Moldova. You can apply for a student visa, a tourist visa (good luck) or a work related visa directly in Chisinau but for a K1 visa (a 90 day marriage visa) your beloved-beloved-royal-family member will have to go to Bucharest Romania at some time for the interview itself.
For a yound single Moldovan woman a k1 visa incidently IS THE SHORTCUT. As mentioned above, a tourist visa is virtually impossible to get - though they will happily take your application fee and just as happily deny the visa and mak evidence of that denial in her passport as a pemanent reminant that she had apllied for entry into the US and was denied (you don't want that). A student visa is possible but she must meet many requiremtns including demonstrating that she has sufficient assets (or a wealthy sponsor) to pay for tuition (out of state tuition of course for any state school) and room and board for at least a year along with the fullacceptance and approval of a US universtity. The K1 visa is actually the easiest and least costly way to bring an FSU lady over - but yes it will take probably 9 months or so (some especially those who can file at the Vermont processing center take considerably less time).
Thanks izi:
The fact that I am limiting my appearances really indicates that my loveley (and she IS that anyway) is still here and we are still working things out. Details , again with some limitations may follow.
well i to am going to marry a woman from moldova i hired a lawyer to handle my paperwork and it is going well they are telling me right the time frame from 3 --4 months so she should be here by the end of the year and it is costly 2100.00 us dollars for her and her son on a k1 visa if you need anymore info ill tell you what i know and maybe it will help jet is the best as far as info but ill tell you what i know good luck hammer
its refreshing from all the "you're gonna get screwed over, you know nothing" talks that have been going on lately. I wish you the best of luck with those k1's guys.
I know it seems negative but it is the truth. It is much better to go into a situation with your eyes open than just wandering in and being disapointed or worse.
There are many success stories so many in fact that I continue. However I realize just what is involved and what can happen and I am still learning.
I will probably fall on my face in Kherson who knows?
My lady is here now, as of July 29. It was 13 weeks from USCIS submittal to landing on the US shores and I waited 2 weeks to go get her. If you both have clean backgrounds, there should be no problems. BTW she is from Ukraine.
I used a lawyer to cut through the mistakes. If you file yourself and you make a mistake in the paperwork, they will send it back for correction with little explanation of what is wrong. You may make the same mistake again. Every time you file, it goes back in the queue. I twas worth the money, plus they contact the fiancee' and explain the process and prepare her for the interview.
jmoluv, normally I would disagree with you, since I'm an Eagles fan, but with all our injuries and contract disputes, I don't have a leg to stand on. I don't think she's a sports fan anyway.
spend some time reviewing visajourney.com and you will see the current K1 processing times are 5-9 months. great wealth of info on visajourney.com if you have the time to wade through the posts.
Thanks everyone for your words, your help. I have put together this outline which seems to exactly what I wanted and needed. Perhaps it will help everyone else. BTW. Most of the documents can be pre-processed ahead of time and if she (your gal) has her stuff together this entire process can be done in 70 days, with three trips to Moldova by you. Lot better than 9 months. http://www.jbtindustries.com/MarriageInMoldova.cfm its a temporary page until I get a website built dedicated to explaining in a clear, logical format (as I go through it) what one needs to do. The websites out on the net for this suck, and have many things they don't answer, don't address, and are lacking. I will keep everyone posted as to my progress on this. Perhaps we can all add to this site I build (it will be free site don't worry)!?
all this chatter about visas and tours is very confusing to me. I wonder if I didn't bite off more than I bargained for. I thought it would be easy to meet and fall in love, apparently it is way difficult and I don't even know if I can trustr what i am being told by the woman.

Your grasp of the situation is absolutely correct. It is an expensive business fraught with tripwires and difficulties. It is possible but it is definitely not an easy way to go.
But then dating an American woman is?
I have posted more than my fair share on this forum and am a little tired of seeing the same stuff go around and around. Once I was new here and I was also full of beans. I even had beginners luck but fell on my ass.
Dig into some of the older threads. You will start to come up with some answers. If there is anything I can do just ask. My email address is quite genuine. I am just tired of the same cicular discussions. Nothing wrong with that it is to be expected but becomes tiresome after a while.
Good luck to all you guys old and new.
