I wanted to share my story on here because I have read so many negative responses and apprehension to meet someone using this website. Although, I have no doubt there is a percentage of scammers from these agencies I did not experience it. I suppose because I followed the advice of the people before me of how to avoid being scammed. But regardless of how careful you are sooner or later you will need to take a leap of faith to move forward in the relationship past e-mails and phone calls.
I decided to meet someone this site not because I am desperate or unable to find someone in my own country I did this this because I wanted to try something different and I had a friend that had success as well.
I started looking at Fiance.com about October 2004 and I had written back and forth to several women and talked to several on the phone but after about 20 woman I found one that I felt very compatible with after numerous letters and phone calls with her. She is from Russia and 8 years younger, no children and educated. Her English is about a 7. I started to write to her exclusively in late November 2004. Since then we e-mailed each other everyday and I call her 2 times everyday.
We finally decided to meet in May 2005, we met in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic for 10 days (it is one of the few places she can visit). And yes I sent her the money to buy her ticket and she actually showed up without taking my money. We had had a great time.
We met again in August in St. Petersburg, Russia for another 10 days. St. Petersburg was great but had several differences I was not used to but I survived. The beer and food was great too.
We are planning to meet again in Moscow for Christmas and New Year's in December (I wonder if it will be cold?).
We are also engaged and have submitted our K-1 Visa application.
During the entire time she has never asked for money or given any indication of not being sincere.
As I said, I am sure there are dishonest people but I was very fortunate to find a wonderful woman. I think it takes time and knowing what you want to find in a person.
I wish you all the same luck that I have had. And if you have any questions about my experience or my travels please let me know.
