As it is my understanding this forum should be (to the extent possible) helpful, I humbly offer the following concerning my recent trip to Belarus.
1. Travel - Ecvo Tours (212-563-6394) was able to save me almost $300 compared to the on-line ticketing sites. NOTE: My trip was “difficult” because I flew from a small city in the deep south.
2. VISA - One CAN obtain a tourist visa for Belarus at the Minsk “2" airport. I would STRONGLY recommend against this option because the price is doubled ($180), one still has to have a Belarus company issue an invitation and the visa officials at the airport work in typical “slow” motion. I used Belintourist (look them up on google) to arrange the airport visa.
3. Hotel - I used Belintourist to book the hotels, which saved a few bucks here and there (probably there are cheaper ways to book - but I couldn’t find any). Minsk - I stayed at the Belarus Hotel ($55 per night) not a bad hotel - rooms were clean - no A/C in the “renovated single.” (Yes, normally I sleep with A/C unless the outside temperatures are in the 30s. - I had to sweat it out in 40 degree weather.) Hotel Belarus is “relatively” conveniently located and a breakfast buffet is included in the price. ----- Novapolotsk - I stayed in the Naftan Hotel. Liked the room better than in Minsk (had a shower (no A/C –> (hey, I can’t stand the heat))). $55 per night too. No breakfast buffet.
4. Restaurants - Minsk has a McDonalds (actually they have 4 or 5 I think) - but who the f*$# cares? There is a FANTASTIC restaurant “Tractir” not far from Hotel Belarus - typical Belarusian cuisine, great service. There is also a restaurant “Danforth Club” in Minsk that was very good - it too had great service. I ate at only one restaurant in Novopolotsk - the food was good, service slow - don’t remember the name but if you are going that way, I’ll gladly look it up for ya.
5. The WOMEN - hmmm. Well, I suppose the purpose of this post is to get all of those that have not “ventured forth” to get off of their asses. Guys, you just have to go. I don’t care if you have a woman there or not! You just have to see for yourself! Are all of the women slim and beautiful? No. But damn it! There are a LOT of ‘em. Unfortunately, I do not have the eloquence of others - I will simply say sometimes one has to take a chance and it is my opinion that Belarus offers many opportunities. (Before anyone chastises me, I feel the same about Russia - (I have no knowledge of the other FSU countries)).
I am more than willing to answer any “specific” questions - but they need to be made in a hurry - - - I return to Belarus at the end of November.
Unfortunately, I am unable to either support or contradict the "Felice Rumor." I did contact him - and he was very helpful. However, I was unable to use his services (which seemed reasonable) because of my schedule.
JMO. Thank you very much!:-) What can I await from you more?:-) Actually... Why are you this interested if a GUY is ugly or not? Are you sure you are using the correct web site?;-) Ok, just kidding...
Here is a testimonial sent to one our site dealing with travel to Belarus.
--------------
I visited Minsk with my
brother and father. Dad had
scouted it out 6 months
prior, so he showed us the
ropes. If you dont have an
interpreter, or someone to
show you around, its a
little difficult at first.
We stayed at the Hotel
Yubelinaya, which is clean,
but not much more. Hookers
everywhere, for ridiculously
low prices. I guarantee
anyone reading this, you
will never see a larger
quatity of hot tail in one
city than you will there.
They all dress like models,
and look perfect. I fell in
love twice in 10 days.
Seriously, there is nothing
but women everywhere, so
hot. Safest, cleanest,
cheapest place ive ever
been. Dollar cab rides, 50
cent beers, 80 cent
marlboro, free lap dances,
$7 steaks. They have a
Mcdonalds and a great pizza
place across from it Il
Fomagio. So tasty. Oh ya,
wanna see night club at its
best, go to Max Show on a
tuesday night. Its like 90%
girls. In LA, we would pay
$100 to get in the door. I
ran a tab for four,
including my own steak
dinner at 1am and drinks for
hours, and paid $60 when i
left. Girls girls girls.
Unreal. Minsk, best place
ive ever been.

One great minus... It became damned cold here...
To follow up on the comment about Felice, truly I could not pick him out of a lineup of men but he has been the most helpful with all my ongoing plans for the past 5 months. We exchange 3-10 emails a week. He has met my lady, has taken her flowers and gifts (from me), we have talked on the phone, he has picked me up at the airport, and he has shared volumes of information about FSU women and the process.
Seriously, you will not find a more helpful person located within FSU to assist you finding a FSU bride.
Hello, everyone! I would like to make two requests: firstly, would someone kindly put me in contact with felicedate, please? And secondly, further to my post to the thread 'Another one bites the dust' yesterday, I would like to ask other members advice about obtaining a UK Fiance or Spouse Visa and about how to improve our chances of swaying the decision of the British Embassy authorities in Belarus in our favour (despite what seems like excessive caution on their part). And thank you, Martin, for moving up the various threads. Best to all, M.
Destiny,
A UK fiancee visa is not that difficult, visit the UK embassy website in Minsk, Belarus (a Google search should find it) for a step by step guide what to do.
You need to provide proof that you know each other, photo's, letters, telephone bills, your contract of employment, bank statements etc.
I am glad to inform you guys that Cast with Svetlana left for Sochi yesterday! If not for Lufthansa that lost half of his lugguage, everything would be perfect.:-)
Dest, after logging in the forum you should see every member's e-mail under his name.
Martin,
Hi! And thank you for tip re UK fiancee visa. I'm concerned about the chances of obtaining this because Galina's tourist visa application was refused. Question: how would you rate the chances that a fiancee or spouse visa might be granted if we were able to provide such proof as you've listed going back six months and including proof of three of my visits?
And Felice, Hi! Your e-mail doesn't appear under your name, only the word 'Member'.
ECVOTOURS.COM is a worst place to buy your tickets! I bought tickets with them 2 months before and now 3 days before flight I keep calling them every day and asking where are my tickets and they tell me every day that they will send them tomorrow. And that happens every day for 2 months! They don't give me my money back and don't give me my tickets! They are thiefs and not a real company! Newer order tickets with them or you will be in trouble and lose all your money!!! ECVOTOURS are THIEFS!
I was traveling for business and fun. Actually, I have friends who are tennis players and they don't speak Russian, so I travel with them around counties like Ukraine or Belarus and help to organize the things.
So... we took the flight from Kiev to Minsk and used BelAvia airlines. That's a local Belarus company. The airplane was small but nice for 70 people. And it was jet :) The ticket one way is $120. Minsk, the capital city, is just 500km North from Kiev. The flight took about 40 minutes.
All the fun started when we arrived!!!
When we got off the plane we went to the area where we had to feel the form to get Visa. Before that the local Belarus travel company made the invitation for us and that was ready at the airport.
So we just filled the forms and gave it to a lady in Visa office. The cost for tourist visa was $45 each. For some reason they only accept cash in USD. And as it happens in movies, none of us had cash! We asked if you can use ATM machine to get some money... there was no ATM machine :) Luckily, one of us has been to London, before the trip to Ukraine and had 50 pounds in his pocket... but... there was no exchange office... to get to it we need to get through passport control and as you can guess, that's not really possible if you don't have visa in your passport :)))
Well... they gave us a security guy, who took us through the customs and passport control. There was currency exchange office and we got $95 for 50 pounds! I have Ukrainian passport, so I don't need to pay $45 for visa. We were saved and payed the fee, having $5 cash left :)
The fun continued... We got to the passport control :) and they took the passport to check... that took about 30 minutes, because they have never seen the passport like that before.
So... it took us about 1 hour and 30 minutes to walk from the jet to the car waiting for us at the gate of the airport. Before the trip I arrange the pickup and apartment. It's about 40km from the airport to the city and 30 minutes drive. The guy was waiting for us all this time and we payed $35 for the pickup. If you order a regular taxi from the city, that's $30.
We stayed in the city center in the area close to the big park with lakes. 2 room apartment nicely fixed, and $55 per night for 3 people. There were 2 beds(actually one double bed that was actually put together from 2 beds, we just put it apart) and 2 sofas.
When we were got to the city, we found out that we need to register in a special department that is dealing with visas. And that was a little waste of time and money, and the rental company did the job. In Belarus they force you to buy local medical insurance for $2, plus the registration fee is about $15 per person. When you get to hotel, the registration is done by hotel and they put the stamp in the immigration card (you get it at the airport) with the address where you are registered for the time of your visit. But the single rooms at the hotel for $55 are not good. To get something nice you have to pay starting from $80. Also, as we stayed more than 7 days, we got the $5 discount for other days.
I like Minsk more than Kiev! The city is very nice and clean. I got a lot of photos and fun there, plus I got contacts in apartment rent that can be helpful in future.
Taxi in Minsk is good and cheap. The taxi drivers work for the company and government controls everything there.
There are few McDonald's in the city, but better go to local restaurants. The dinner for 3 people was about $30. If you need the Internet, go to BelTelecom. That's the local phone and Internet company. They have international phone calls there as well. 1st day we got to Minsk, I got local sim card for $4. The local mobile phone calls are much cheaper in Belarus than in Ukraine.
Girls are nice, but they don't dress like girls in Ukraine. Minsk girls are more conservative about that.
About marriage agencies... well... as far as I understand, there is only one marriage agency in Minsk that works officially :) I talked to them, they have hundreds of profiles, but they don't have their catalog in the Internet, you need to go there personally. For some reason they have very strict rules in Belarus.
I will post some more about my trip to Minsk, Belarus later, as I would like to go there again :)
